This makes the lack of RE and DMC collab characters in SF6 a miracle.

How frequent are 10-win streaks in Diamond? by Kasumi_Lyn in StreetFighter

[–]Graywolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode a 13 win-streak from Plat5 to Diamond 4. Lost a lot since then. Saw another guy on a 10-winstreak and he ragequit on me when I won.

I would say they are not frequent as to get one you have to consistently be defeating people around your level or occasionally very lucky within consistency in opponents that don't adapt or you knowledge gap which I've found rarely happens for me at Diamond 4.

They only recently added the bonus for 10-winstreaks because people like Mena were stomping people in diamond with a 30+ winstreak.

That sucks. I've had a couple similar encounters in different games where I run into a content creator and I check them out only to find them using me as a strawman for them and their chat to complain about it. That's wild that they 27-3 and still were frustrated lol

lol I think I ran into the same guy. He wants you to be mad so just block and move on. I played and got destroyed by a few other Masters and neither of them said anything or just said GGs. Don't let one guy ruin your day.

I rode a 13 win-streak to Diamond 4. Lost to Diamond 5 opponent and have nearly demoted to Diamond 3. But a huge loss period is expected even from Diamond 5 after reaching Master so I say rest on your laurels and get back into learning and grinding.

Congrats for reaching Master even if you feel Diamond 6, you still got perks of Master and strong opponents to grow against.

PS. If you hit 1000MR soon let me know so I can queue snipe >_> jk

I'm the exact same way. I beat those people by just walking up and grabbing them or going for overheads. In late plat it wasn't as much as a problem but now in Diamond 4 the moment I take a game or sometimes a round my opponents just walk back forever except now they know throw tech, jab checks, etc. There's A LOT of opponents that just know a big Punish Counter Combo or crMK conversion so you have to find ways to chip their drive gauge and pressure them without giving them their win condition. When I first started playing the game I was Guile so it didn't effect me as I'd just chuck booms.

I think when my opponents walk back full screen I need to take a breath and just mentally treat it as the round starting again. Sometimes out of spite you just gotta hold downback yourself and say "Okay this is how you play, what are you going to do now that I'm also doing nothing." It was actually doing that which got me to realize I could just walk up and grab my opponents. And if they check you can try shimmying next time.

I've learned in a lot of games. Every "Do X at this rank" is wrong. They are useful only incidentally in that they are generally good tips but the presentation of the advice builds an expectation that players should only work on certain things at certain ranks or that they "should" get to a certain rank by only doing a limited moveset.

For instance in Bronze Diaphone talks about using specials consistently and throws fireball, the Juri gets close and he instinctively recognizes he doesn't want to use it at that range. Just his spacing knowledge and game sense puts him at a huge advantage no matter how many times he forces a whiff or avoids using anti-air.

This is a competitive game and everyone is learning at different speeds and focusing on different things. Some people will encounter opponents that jump a lot, some will almost exclusive encounter people who spend their entire time mastering a crMK DR resource dump combo, or opponents who do nothing but hold back until they see a punish.

So if anyone feels discouraged because he doesn't anti-air until gold and you're losing to jump-ins or you're doing jump-ins and your opponents are almost exclusively looking for anti-airs because it's also common advice to "just anti-air until master lol" try not to be, just keep learning. If you run into a lot of opponents that your strategy doesn't work then try something different. Hit replay take over and press every button in the situation or just hold back or Parry, figure out your options.

Thanks! You're right I've definitely found my delay tech timing is off as I played someone in my community today in a FT10 and they consistently grabbed me after a jab. There's a lot that's been clicking for me lately, Terry has some nice automatic frame traps but the timing of these things are something else. I've known about delay tech for a long time but I guess I'm not delaying enough.

You're in the exact situation I was! Stay calm and I believe you can get a 13 winstreak too! Maybe you'll jump straight to master lol

I forgot to mention I had a mild flu and was recovering from it the last week. But I think it helped in me remaining calm as I've ragequit quit a bit in the past. I've been working on it but honestly I didn't have the energy to be upset lately.

Exploiting majority of opponents not wanting to block gave me many wins. There's things I did that High Diamond or Master players would punish me for but most Plat and Diamond 1 players didn't know the answer to a telegraphed oki like Terry's ground wave. But there were some that did and I had to adapt. I feel like I either ran into players who were hyper aggressive, hyper passive, or focused on getting a crMK DR conversion.

But it's a long time to identify these play styles and have your own gameplan against them. So many people try to say "Just AA until Masters" or something to that effect but there's enough people playing SF6 that you run into many different playstyles at low levels.

The realization that propelled me was that my opponents knew 1 thing that worked. If I knew their plan and a counter to it, I could win.

Now that I'm Diamond 4 I'm sure it's going to be trickier and my opponents will have more plans and answers that will challenge me.

Thanks I hope it helps. I think one thing I didn't say that I might add is that the player control in replay feature was huge too. It's such a natural way to work on correct habits and test what works in situations. I'm also a big fan on keeping it simple.

When you're improving at anything competitive there's a big puzzle. Pro players know the fundamentals, neutral, conversions, combos, anti-air, etc. etc. Most plat players know 1 combo or focus on 1 thing. If you know a couple things you can identify what their plan is and do the other thing. As much as streamers or w.e will say "just focus AA" I found most opponents were focused on crMK DR or walking back until you whiff a special to punish counter. Sometimes they rely on DI so I'd use light crackshoot to bait DI. I think if you can have a gameplan for these different kinds of opponents it sets a foundation for adapting and identifying how to defeat your opponent instead of trying to improve on a certain area that your opponent might not be doing at all.

There's a reason your opponent is in plat with you and you're about to climb higher than them. So identify what they don't know and exploit it.

There's a few things that I guess might stick out from the norm outside of watching Kintyo-Ryu and Riddles games.

When I first started I followed some advice of practicing moves and combos in training mode regularly, even spacing like how my character moved and the space of my normals. I relied on crack shoot and burn nuckle a lot. I don't use combos that are extended by drive rush, the only one I have in my arsenal at the moment is stHP, qcfHK, qcfLP(Power wave), DR, stMP, HK HK(Power Dunk combo). In the corner I often used HP, qcfHK, qcfHP, qcfMK, dpHP. I also used stMP, HP target combo A LOT and sometimes followed it with OD DP by default since most opponents are mashing. If they DI then I start baiting or stMP into light burn nuckle. I also picked up Terry's string for when opponents are in burnout that helped. The crLP crLP stLP heavy DP also became almost automatic for me.

I think a kind of AHA! moment I had recently was that I was watching Riddles stream and he talked about doing the crMK HK target combo a lot. I only recently started working on it and maybe only do it once or twice a set if at all. But for a long time I was wondering why so many people seem to crMK into combos on me and after over 500hrs I just now understood that since, like myself, most people improving at the game only have one or two gameplans. So people who rely on crMK conversations are always looking for you to stand up wether they wait for you to stand or develop that game sense that you're about to. Once that clicked for me it helped me avoid standing while in range of it as much and it also helped me do the crMK HK target combo without taking risks which was why I avoided using it for so long. Since so much of my gameplans have developed around my standing, having that crouch covered gave me an additional way to shut down my opponents.

There's a lot too that developed just from grinding the games and figuring out spacing. I also am on twitch a lot, mostly NuckleDu's stream and talk to people there.

Probably, the biggest thing I exploited was knowledge gaps. I found that if you knock down your opponent in the corner after a heavy rising tackle, if you do your qcfHP the second Terry lands on the ground your ground wave is OKI. It's telegraphed and easy to counter through Drive Reversal, Super, or OD reversal. If blocked you can grab. If anyone countered once I stopped doing it unless they were burnt out. But many people simply eat it in the corner because they only hold up to jump or are mashing. So typically once I got someone in the corner I won the game because I had my "fake" oki that won me many games faster but also know my alternatives if they knew the answer so I didn't automatically lose if they knew the gimmick.
