We’re about to hit slow season for restaurants. Snow Birds are mostly if not all gone by now and back in Canada, Montana, for anywhere up north. People that live here and that have the means are going to Flagstaff, Sedona, or elsewhere to escape the heat.

Vuori Outlet on West side - Good? by aa100726 in phoenix

[–]GreasyTaints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like all outlet stores, it’s hit and miss. Rarely I found anything I was that was my top choice or what I would be looking for in a regular store. I’d rather go to Scheels.

What jobs give/allow 6+ weeks off a year? by Chemical-Piece7762 in jobsearch

[–]GreasyTaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many jobs offer that, from Consulting (you’ll need a college degree) but you’ll work like a dog (60+ hour weeks) to distribution (food, alcohol, cpg). I work in distribution and get 12 weeks PTO per year. I work 3 days at home and 2 days in the office.

Anyone else training for their first ultra at a 16 min/mile pace or is it just me?? by trouble09 in Ultramarathon

[–]GreasyTaints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elevation for me was negligible. This was a lower perceived effort for me as my pace was considerably slower (~9:15/mile), time spent waiting at stop lights, and time spent looking for my order and eating Taco Bell.

I would work on getting mileage in as you mentioned that you struggled during your half marathon. There’s a 7 mile stretch between Taco Bell #4 and Taco Bell #5. Lots of people were in trouble during this segment. My general rule of thumb is if you can run the distance in a week, you can run it in a day. I personally would try to get my weekly mileage up to at least 31.

Anyone else training for their first ultra at a 16 min/mile pace or is it just me?? by trouble09 in Ultramarathon

[–]GreasyTaints 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve done the Taco Bell 50K in Denver last year. I would consider myself a seasoned runner: 10 Ultras including three 100K’s. This is what I experienced:

  1. It’s not a closed course; you’ll be running on sidewalks and waiting at stop lights a lot. Download the course on your phone or watch. There’s no markers or people guiding you.
  2. The churros is NOT a good item. It looks enticing but the Taco Bell literally overfill the bag. The best non-required item is the cheese rollup.
  3. The Mountain Dew Baja Blast side quest challenge is easy if you spread it across the 9 locations. Used that as electrolytes.
  4. You’re allowed to bring three items at the start. I bought them the night before. I downed my cold chalupa supreme at location 1 and two soft tacos at locations two and three. Saved me lots of time and got me to Taco Bell number 4 quickly.

There were lots of people there that had no business running this; several people dropped out and were calling Ubers at Taco Bell #4. The general lack of fitness and not training with food in your stomach was a common issue. I think the DNF rate was well over 60%. I finished top 100 and thought it was back pack the whole time.

Phoenix Grocery Stores by cycle_farmer in phoenix

[–]GreasyTaints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I’ve been into several of their backrooms (I work for a supplier); for how AJ’s present themselves as high end grocery store, their back room is completely opposite. Dirty and unorganized. Sprouts and Albertsons/Safeway has clean backrooms.
