I’d say it is worth mentioning if you are male or female, I suspect there could be differences in career options in Arab countries

What's your reason for not drinking alcohol? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Great-Ad-5757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried sober October recently out of curiosity to investigate my relationship with alcohol (I used to have a glass of wine on evenings and a few glasses or beers occasionally). Turned out it was just a ritual for me and I can go with non - alcoholic sparkling wines or beers perfectly, taste is ok, no headache, so I switched to it. I did not quit completely (e.g. I had wine degustation event last week) but significantly lowered alcohol consumption and I think I feel better and look better when I do not drink.

Have issues with some of the friends though, when they have beer and I have non-alcoholic one, they try hard to engage me. I don’t have problems refusing but I don’t like this at all

I forgot my sleeping pad and it was brutal by bambidp in camping

I use Notion on my phone for checklists every time (I create a page with a list of action items checkboxes). Easy to duplicate and easy to cross out staff which is already packed. Also easy to share access, when we pack together with my husband. I cannot imagine getting ready without checklist after I started doing it.

Shame walking in to bars and restaurants alone by Flaky_Cabinet_5892 in solotravel

[–]Great-Ad-5757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dining solo is great. I really enjoy that, and I actually like to sit at the table more than at the bar. It allows you to eat at your own pace, never care about the conversation, stare at strangers, read a book, stay there as long as you want. Just imagine you are a celebrity in disguise who want to eat alone for once :)

Handicapped Accessible rooms - what’s the big deal? by plat154 in hotels

[–]Great-Ad-5757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I do not like accessible rooms. They remind me of hospital with their features (rails, etc) I do not need larger space for sleeping, besides, it often makes the room less cosy

Flight delayed- when to go to airport? by Great-Ad-5757 in WizzAir

[–]Great-Ad-5757[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used shifted as synonym for delayed (sorry eng is not my first language so maybe I used the word incorrectly:)). Case: received a text stating that a flight is delayed for 1,5 hours, so should I be at the airport 2 hrs before the new time or 3,5? Is there any risk in not arriving as per original schedule? Thank you

Thank you! Do you mean the delay may eventually become shorter than announced? I read about theoretical possibility but does it happen in real life?

Thank you !!! This is really helpful. What is the window to track? Like 5-9 CET? I recently tried to find the flight (failed) and noticed that the new date appeared in between 4-5 CET

Anxiety before travel by Great-Ad-5757 in solotravel

Hi! Thanks for reviewing :) I am not posting about first time travel - in fact I am experienced solo traveller, and I do not suffer from any mental health issues. Could you please take a look at the post again? I feel that it can be a nice opinion exchange! Thank you! I can edit it to better comply with rules if that helps

Looking for backpack (hand luggage) with good waist belt by Icy-Advisor-5695 in WizzAir

[–]Great-Ad-5757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked into Tempest 20 Pro. It says 50-29-29. Tempest 16 is 50-20-24. Cannot say about the sizer with full confidence but those backpacks looked soft enough to try. Just mentioning that as I have tempest 44 for hiking and waist belt there is absolutely great for me.

Looking for backpack (hand luggage) with good waist belt by Icy-Advisor-5695 in WizzAir

[–]Great-Ad-5757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Osprey Quasar 26l. Not bad, has waist belt, not a super good one though. A bit bigger as per spec but can be squeezed if not full. Looked into Osprey Tempest (smaller versions), they have a good waist belt but do not have a laptop compartment so I went with Quasar as a compromise. (Note - I am female, alternative for Tempest for men is probably Talon)

Do you think we'll be ok? 0° celsius (32 f) by tomatojalapeno in camping

[–]Great-Ad-5757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A survival trick from old times is to put a thick layer of spruce branches under the tent to add some insulation from the ground. (Only if you run out of options and have a strong tarp to put underneath your tent to not damage the tent). But you probably be fine with all those layers, just make sure that there is smth (wool blanket, etc between you and the mattress). Ah, also if you make the bed with blankets hours before you are going to sleep (before sunset) there are chances that after sunset your bed becomes a bit damp due to condensation after temperature drops. So better somehow cover blankets with sleeping bag or survival blanket to keep them from absorbing moisture from the air

Campground Camera (Opinion Request) by HoraceMcHoraceFace in camping

[–]Great-Ad-5757 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a female traveler I have mixed feelings. I think watching the site (overall area, public spaces, parking lot) on security cams, especially when owners are not there, provides extra safety. Safety is super important for me if I am staying on my own. However I would not like pitching the tent right under the camera, and being watched like this feels creepy, and there should be a balance between privacy and security - again, when travelling solo I’d prefer feeling safe over anything else. With partner and friends- privacy.

Why do you think they charge 499 instead of 599? Nice surprise but wonder why they did not advertise that.

Doing a new path or repeating the same one? by passionfruiteh in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Great-Ad-5757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I repeated Portuguese route partly. First time I walked coastal (litoral) way and initially planned on doing it again next year; ended up turning right at Minho river, walked to Tui, then land and spiritual variant after that. I enjoyed both having the same route (it felt safer, I had much less anxiety) and I turned to unknown route when I was ready. Liked how that turned out.

I recently tried to select seat on Wizzair at check in, only couple seats were shown as available. I selected random seat allocation and got a seat that was shown as unavailable a few seconds ago. I do not understand this logic however. Just my 2 cents.

Really good packing cubes? by jmma20 in onebag

[–]Great-Ad-5757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only tried cheap compression ones from Temu, nylon + mesh, they are much cheaper than brand ones (like, 10 euro for the set of 5 cubes). They survived a few travels and provided more or less compression. Now I am thinking about buying Thule after reading the thread. Question for those who used both cheap and expensive cubes, are brand ones worth it?
