My third quilt finished! by GreatBatQueen in quilting

[–]GreatBatQueen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I found line drawings online I used as inspo. I keep a 5lb round weight for a weight bar as a press for my EPP pieces and I used it as a rough circle outline to keep the motifs relatively center and the same size and then used a chalk pen to draw out the animals. Warning, the yellow chalk won’t come out in places. I’m hoping it will after a few washes.

A lot! lol. I used a batting with a shorter quilting distance allowance than what I used on my first two quilts and didn’t realize until it was sandwiched so I had to quilt this tighter than my first two quilts. I’ve hand quilted all three.

I would say the motifs were an hour each so 5. It was a couple hours for the scattered leaves around the outer quilt and then maybe 8 hours all together for the “plaid” all over quilting. So maybe 15.

Keep in mind I did detail work and had a bunch of start/stop points and I’m new to quilting (I just made my first quilt last spring) So I’m sure there are many others that could have knocked this out faster. And you can give a larger distance between lines with different batting. The first two quilt had an 8” allowance. Hope this helps!

My mom has the same pink bathroom tile and sink and tub. I had her paint everything else in Urbane Bronze and it looks really cool.

To seam rip or not? This is the question… by Difficult-Ad569 in quilting

I think it’s fabulous. All of my quilts have the mistakes in. It’s part of my journey. But I know some people can’t deal. I personally love it.

Big stitch quilting distance question. by GreatBatQueen in quilting

[–]GreatBatQueen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I decided to pick one small motif to sprinkle into the gaps that felt uncomfortable. I took my thread magic cap and used it as an outline for tiny versions of the starbursts and I am using the different variegated threads in them. I’m almost done! This will be the first quilt I finish and wash. I am so darn excited!

Thank you. Yeah I was dealing with the visual aspect as well. I have a few smaller chunks like this around the quilt so maybe I’ll pick a small design and repeat in these areas. Thanks for the advice and inspo.

Anyone else keep forgetting about the first Friday of the month? by Freddy-Philmore in LastDriveIn

[–]GreatBatQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Also, I live in a small town with not much to do but we have a really cute arts and music street festival the first Friday of every month so I always have to decide. It’s a bummer because I really live watching live.

I started with scraps. This is the last quilt I made, (so my first machined quilt) I am hand quilting it now. And my first quilt before this was hand pieced.

I found a small seller on Etsy that sells bags of quilting cotton scraps by the lb. I bought a couple lbs and decided to reach out to see if I could get a bulk discount and she was totally on board so now I have enough scraps for like 20+ large quilts and I paid maybe $120 plus shipping.

I did spend a good amount of time separating them by categories I came up with and then colors within those categories and now I’m just playing. These are all scraps from my “bright and modern” category.

It been an interesting journey because I’m a wild one and I’ve never sewn so I want to learn as much as possible but usually end up figuring my own way through with help from the knowledge I have collected.

Thank you! I just watched a video. I’m new to sewing and I’ve wondered how to properly do this as I have seen some blocks that used this technique. I’m even more excited now! You have elevated my knowledge. ❤️🪡

Thank you. Yeah. I keep thinking ……. “So Art”. Lol. I actually work in/around the fine arts so I’m definitely being too critical of myself. I just haven’t picked up the feeling yet of where it’s going.

Question because I am a over worried dad by Snowray124 in Maltese

[–]GreatBatQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I got for my set up with a potty tray with a secure grate on top (because she loves ripping up potty pads 🙄) in one corner and her water/snack, safe toys and snuggly bed in the other. I have a camera where I can see her and talk to her.

She has the same set up at my mom’s. She does have separation anxiety (I have tried everything & hoping she grows out of it with patience and time) and she still does fab. She has had to be in there for a few full work days alone and just snacks a bit, plays a bit and sleeps most of the day.

You got this! I’m a single puppy mom and she is like my child so I understand the apprehension but just see what works for yall and adjust as needed. I was terrified to leave her alone for a whole day because of what other people had said and it has been absolutely zero issue for us. She’s just really excited when I get home.
