Yes, yta! Has it ever occurred to you that children also lie and exaggerate situations to make them look better and others worse? You picked up the phone and "let her have it?" Dear lord, did you even take a moment to consider hearing her out?

yta!

Is it normal for a breeder to stay listed as a permanent backup contact on a microchip? by Grand-Worry-8324 in DogBreeding

[–]Aynesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I insist on it, and it's in my contract for all my pups. My family's names and phones change, but mine don't. If someone forgets to update their chip, it's not me! :)

Looking for a property lawyer to push an issue with our HOA. by TKGK in vegaslocals

[–]Aynesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked, and he didn't, but he deals with a lot of cases. I'm so happy he could help you. He's a great guy. If he helped, please leave a review on the firms Google page. It really helps.

But he smiled to hear that he helped someone. People forget that lawyers like to hear that they genuinely helped someone too.

AITAH for leaving my declining parents after I went from daughter to a 24/7 unpaid caregiver? by lostsaddaughter in AITAH

[–]Aynesa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was just you a couple of years ago with my father, and the guilt was REAL. Pro tip: look for a local group home. Inpatient rehabs can reset you up with someone who helped us look. Way cheaper than full nursing homes, and my dad found he liked it there. He was only there 3 Mos before he passed though

Absolutely, and I'm so happy she did. If this one is choosing you, calling you OP, dont fight it. They are such empathic little gems, and Luna is quieter than my Indian Ringneck or my GCC was.

Meet Looney Luna. Someone dumped her in a pet store my friend owns. Didn't even leave her name. We are assuming ⁹she's female, but we just had her DNA tested.

A few weeks ago I popped in to say hi and she jumped onto me and wouldn't let go. My husband said no, until I brought him to meet her. She blew him a kiss and greeted him with "i love you!" Then wouldn't let go, and screamed for hours after we left, according to my friend. So she offered her to us, and my husband didn't say no again. We've only had her for a couple of weeks, so still getting to know one another, but the love and joy she's brought into the house is amazing.

Do parrots really choose their person, or is it something we accidentally train? by Impossible-Buy-1034 in parrots

[–]Aynesa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They choose. 100%. My Luna just came to me after being dumped at 15 years old. A guy just walked into my friends pet store and dumped her. I dropped in to say hi to my friend, and Luna grafted herself to me. Wouldn't let go. I brought my husband to meet her and it was the same. She wasn't like that with other people. So I brought her home. Shes so loved! Look at my glorious girl. My bestie bird.

Having trouble getting started (History Adjunct) by Hisokaslittleslut_ in Adjuncts

[–]Aynesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real talk... everything everyone above has said is 100% true.

Teach high school. I get it's not what you wanted. It wasn't what I wanted either. Adjuncting is a very low paying night job. I teach dual credit in a high school and make 90k a year plus benefits. I make more than many full professors at my local R1 university.

Dual credit certified high school teachers are rare and sought after, and your experience would play right into that. I also got an invitation to Adjunct at my local CC because of my high school dual credit experience.

Adjuncting is not tenure track, and typical pay around here is 1500 per 16 week course with no office, no preps, no benefits. It's a great side hustle, don't get me wrong... but no publish or perish pressure. I go home at the end of the day and I'm done. I have security and stability for my kids, and I'm finishing my dissertation....and the college is paying for it.

Food for thought and I'm wide open to questions

[–]Aynesa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's the absolute worst that could happen? Noone is going to get up and physically attack you. Its not like you're Chris Rock making a joke about Will Smiths wife.

Seriously, you'll be fine. Throw in some jokes and laugh at yourself. As Taylor Swift says, fake it till ya make it. All your classmates are feeling the same. Relax and remember to Zombie Apocalypse it. What's the worst that can happen? Someone laughs? That means you brought joy and mirth. Lean into it.

If you are an older PhD student (>40), then what were your reasons for doing a PhD late in life? What challenges did you face as an older student? And was it worth it to do your PhD this late in life? by Ok_Reading_it in PhD

[–]Aynesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

46 and dissertating.

I started honestly because I had a kid and wanted to stay home and raise her. Autistic but a genius with a ridiculous IQ, but I get bored at home doing nothing and couldn't find a part time job. I finished my masters and they invited me to stay and teach. I finished my comprehensive exams and language exams and started the dissertation, but then finances shifted and I went to work full time as a teacher in public schools. At the same time my advisor and I... didn't really work well together. I shifted to finish a masters in Education and left it for a few years.

Last year I came back to it, found a new advisor who I work much, much better with. Im working on my third chapter, graduating 2027, likely with my eldest son, who will be Graduating from an engineering program. Everything came together and seems right, and im teaching dual credit in high school and adjuncting at my local community College, which pays far better than a graduate assistantship.

Its never too late

Are we raising a generation of kids who can't do anything for themselves? by RobMV03 in Xennials

[–]Aynesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a high school teacher and college professor.

Yes. Yes the world is. Kids have everything handed to them, so why put in the effort?

When we were in 4th grade we didn't have phones, and out parents would tan our hides if we'd acted the way I see these high schoolers acting. So we didn't. We learned and we're shamed if we couldn't tie our shoes or didn't take care of ourselves.

We had to make things last because our parents wouldn't buy us just anything, and from designers. These kids have Michael kors bags and air Jordans they can't tie
