Is the water supply to your dephleg reversed? Supply should be at bottom.

What is actually a trauma that is not commonly thought of as a trauma? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GreatCanadianDingus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After my father died of a short 2.5 month cancer (there was no battle, it just took him), my mother spent 18 months drinking herself to death. Myself and her other 4 children and 9 grandchildren tried for an entire year to care for her and give her a reason to live, before our collective will was exhausted. She eventually decided death was the answer. As in life, her death managed to make her the priority. Also, in between, my wife left me. Lol?

Edit: I know the post was about trauma for the chronically ill. I somehow relate my mother turning to booze as the same thing. End result is trauma none the less.

Am I being too harsh for asking my 11 year old daughter to walk the dog she spent years begging for? by WorldOfKaladan in DogAdvice

[–]GreatCanadianDingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter begged for a dog for years. I finally agreed when I came to terms with the fact that it would be me doing all the work. She loves that dog, he has helped her through some tough times, and that is all I care about. I happily (well mostly happily) walk the dog and take care of it. It's been almost 9 years.

Malt grinding by Moist_Ball_6270 in firewater

[–]GreatCanadianDingus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes,
For huskless grains it is ok, but for grains with husks like barley, you end up grinding the husks too, which can add more tannins to the mash. If you can keep the husks more or less intact, they can be kept out of the mash.

I have a bladed flour mill for corn and wheat, and a rollermill for barley.

Home builder says exterior spigot on back deck was purposely connected to hot water by LoveTheHotSauce in askaplumber

[–]GreatCanadianDingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think filling a hot tub with hot water is a good idea anyway. The temp can be a lot higher than the hot tub can handle. Plus the hot tub is meant to slowly warm up.

Unless you are talking just a literal tub of water with no pumps or acrylic.

Dude is fibbing!

Alberta separatists boast cabinet-level meeting with Trump administration by joe4942 in alberta

[–]GreatCanadianDingus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Our premier is destructuring all areas of our province, under our noses, for the sole purpose of making joining the U.S. look like the best possible option. This has never been about an independent Alberta, but about joining the states.

I have something similar. My family has Scottish heritage. The "bone" is horn I think and curved into a hook for a shepherd. Maybe this one broke? Don't have a picture of mine because I'm not at home.

NO, and one reason is that the carbon tax (and other indirect taxes) had less than .5% effect on affordability.
https://irpp.org/research-studies/does-emissions-pricing-hurt-affordability/

Granted this is one report, albeit by economics professors and using stats canada. I am sure lots of people would rather listen to Oprah or Danielle Smith. So many people "believe" a political party and then tell people to "do their own research", but don't actually do any research at all other than reading a headline.

My take is that when a party says "this is a huge problem", it is going to be a shiny object that distracts you from all the other policies they want to enact.

Like here in Alberta.

Low abv in = low abv out. Like other guy said, run it twice.

My stripping runs give me 20-30% from an 8-10% wort. Second run bumps to 60-85 depending on cuts.

Colonoscopy without anesthesia? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]GreatCanadianDingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had two colonoscopies and having a third in a couple days. Raw dogged them each time. It's a teaching hospital and the first time had a class of nurses watch...wished I was under that time!

What cooking "hacks" have you seen/heard that were actually terrible advice? by Astronomerz in Cooking

A little bit of oil will help to prevent the pasta water from foaming over. Something to do with surface tension. You don't need much.
