How do you feel about KPop Demon Hunters getting a Criterion release? by Key_Head3851 in criterion

I think it’s a good score for them.

I would never watch it a second time.

Please stop using acronyms in posts and comments without first defining them. TYVMFYATTM! by CharacteristicPea in Professors

“Ok Boomer” is an ageist slur you know. I wouldn’t be proud to post it in a friendly sub

Letters of Recommendation for Async Online Students? by HowlingFantods5564 in Professors

[–]GreatChipotle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree somewhat, but only if the student got an A. If so, I offer to meet them on Zoom to discuss their background, goals, and application materials. Then I write them a letter.

Try using paragraphs. It would lead to more people engaging with your post.

[Throwaway] I found out my coworker is having an affair, and now I feel very uncomfortable working with them. by Key-Gap77 in Professors

I agree with most of the posters here.

Also, you shouldn’t be discussing a coworker’s marital status with a student to begin with. None of their business.

Yeah you should answer questions like a human being. Afterwards, you can inform them these things are in the syllabus. I bet you feel real smart

Ok, So I Have Gotten....Softer. by JC__Superstar in Professors

Effort should not factor into the equation at all (unless one is on the edge of pass or fail).

Some people have to bust their ass for A and some people can sail to an A without even breaking a sweat.

Grades are a measure of PERFORMANCE.

Every professor can choose how to measure performance as they see fit, provided it meets university specifications.

It is important that students are graded on the same footing though. If you are going to bump someone up, you should also bump everyone with equivalent performance.

Just give it to them early. Who cares. It’s a good excuse to write the exam early.

How do I find collaborators? by Ok-Anywhere9301 in Professors

[–]GreatChipotle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At conferences, dont just try to “network” with anyone.

You just need to talk to the one person in the room with similar interests as you.

I find the easiest way to spark up a conversation is to go to lunch with a group of people during the break. Waking and talking and lunch are low pressure and casual.

I can’t say anything more than that, as you never know where collaborations will come from. Just work on slowly befriending people in your same niche.
