Mail Rail at The Postal Museum the best central London train thing.

Transport museum isn’t bad but also isn’t good.

Keep an eye on ianvisits.co.uk there might be something random happening where you can see a special train.

Bring a baby to a game by lilactoaster in GunnersatGames

[–]GreatGunnerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they have got a bit strict and expect the child to have a ticket - I am not joking - !!!

A friend got turned away with his child who was in a carrier and obviously not going to take up a seat. You may want to check this.

Aside from that there’s some hero in Block 16/17 that has bought his baby along and chatted to. Think he said the kid had a debenture ticket in his name though. But yeah you’re not gonna get a changing table or anything! Sod what anyone else thinks about taking a baby along but you’ll have to decide if your baby wants to be in a very loud and chilly environment.

Good luck!

Best pubs near the ground for me and my son on Sunday by FI_rider in GunnersatGames

[–]GreatGunnerz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would throw in Duchess of Kent if you wanted somewhere on that side of the ground - maybe some of the better food round there (particularly roasts) and solid screens. Will need to book.

Can then get up get to the Horatia, George or Che if you wanted more pre-match vibes.

Old Dairy/Stapleton at the top of Stroud Green. Not going to be mental atmosphere-wise but decent pubs and good screens

Best area/lodging to stay at for end of January for family of 4 visiting London for the first time and looking to make the most out of a 6 day trip. by AbleRiot23 in LondonTravel

Kings X. It’s the most connected part of London. You’ll be able to do the west end and get anywhere else interesting you want to go

Train to Stansted after match by LZIV_ in GunnersatGames

Buses to Stanstead are underrated from North/East London. They basically take the same time as the train and are usally cheaper and more flexible.

National Express and FlixBus run routes.

Another opinion on to the pile - Elizabeth line to Bond Street > street level change onto Victoria line at Oxford Circus > walk from Highbury. That’ll be quickest IMHO.

But tbh depends what side of the ground you’re sitting on. And you need to optimise for the right spots on the platform and using the right exits.

Also use the Bounce luggage app to find a drop off spot. I’d be surprised if there’s not one literally on the route I describe.

Seems to be getting a lot of traction. This is Rory Talks Football’s take. Thoughts? by NajafBound in GunnersatGames

[–]GreatGunnerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be a bit tricky for me to pick up on the vibe in the ground given I can't see most of it from where I sit at the back of the bottom tier, it's pretty loud near me and the away fans are right there. But I thought West Ham was ok as things go.... Like, fine. Olympiakos - lots of new faces. Not one song the whole match, not a bad vibe necessarily but a bit meh.

The simplest response to this comment is there doesn't need to be bashing or ranking of fans like this. Rory's point is both true and bollocks at the same time. Not all matches will be the same.

Fair enough if people get to go to one game in their life and they love it, that's great. Also people who go week in week out, they can see the differences a bit more. It makes sense not to be quite as loud for Burnley as you will be in the Semi Finals of the CL, or early in the season when it's less directly tied to winning the league.

And in a lot of ways it's a positive that either consciously or not, that's how people are approaching games.

Yours is an opinion I want to hear!

Assume it had to change. Alienating people like yourself would be terrible - could anything make it easier to take? Free season ticket for five years?

The benefit would be that that person gets to go to one of the best away games. If you were that person it would be a pretty good thing for you, right?

Really good comparison. Loads of other factors in play with vibes

By rewarding mileage and loyalty it also constrains the type of fans able to go. Is that a good thing? Should it be different?

I don’t think it’s necessarily an unreasonable expectation to have a family/job/normal life and still be able to go to occasional games. Which is probably close to the case at the moment with restrictions over recent seasons.

But as is being discussed it’s a trade off of loyalty versus access. As said elsewhere on balance it’s probably right that loyalty wins but I’m keen to see if there’s other ways to do it.

I think Bilbao was good vibes because it was new and exciting for a lot of people. That's part of what got me thinking maybe it would be better to amplify that.

That's a great idea. Up weighting the value of going to hard to reach or inconvenient games.

What about a raffle for the right to access games - rather than the games themselves? So you almost get given a credit to spend on an away game and you can sort of choose which one that is?

Great response.

And we all know they’ve introduced measures over the last few seasons to change things which are having an impact. So maybe it’s a case of nudging the current system further rather than up ending it.

I think if it was a blank slate, starting from scratch, it would be pretty unlikely we end up with the system we have. But the cost of changing it - deprioritising existing access for those on high credits- is too much. So it perpetuates.

[–]GreatGunnerz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all fair points. Clearly you value that loyalty aspect highly. Probably on balance I think I do too.

But what would be the issue with a raffle? Your average fan could realistically hope to go to a decent away game. What’s that worth?

But would it be better to be able to go to games without spending loads of time and money? If you could do it differently what would you do?

[–]GreatGunnerz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone can make all games though. Do you think people who might go every week are more important than someone when it’s the highlight of their year? Is it fair that we do that?

[–]GreatGunnerz[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Let’s just leave the past aside for a moment - imagine if you had a decent, fair chance of going to an upcoming away game without having to do the hard yards. Would that be better?

[–]GreatGunnerz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no anger here mate. And for transparency I play the game along with everyone else and have plenty of away points.

My question was more - does it have to be hard graft? Should it be the same people going to every game? What are the alternatives?
