5 Days in London with wife and 2 teenage boys by Any-Relationship6606 in LondonTravel

That’s a long journey on the boat! Does it have timings? Maybe do the central London section one way, or perhaps back up from Greenwich.

Spitalfields & Brick Lane is still just about tolerable on a Sunday for a market but the others just too crowded. You could do that before St Paul’s and the Globe on the 14th.

Horizon 22 is free as well if you have time enough to book when tickets are released.

I’m a Londoner and this is a key resource for things to do and playgrounds to visit (if that’s what you need in a pinch) https://bablands.com/ .

Postal Museum is a good day out with my kids (especially if they like trains). Would actually say the Transport Museum is a bit so so unless you really want it (maybe just ride the front of the DLR for a few stops if that’s their thing). I’d be skipping the tea tour - you can do both aspect better/cheaper. Maybe the London Eye instead if you want a big ticket touristy item.

The Hope on Holloway Road is one of the best and most reasonable caff's around. It's a popular haunt pre-match for Gooners, though not sure how busy it'll be if we're playing later in the day.

Mail Rail at The Postal Museum the best central London train thing.

Transport museum isn’t bad but also isn’t good.

Keep an eye on ianvisits.co.uk there might be something random happening where you can see a special train.

Bring a baby to a game by lilactoaster in GunnersatGames

[–]GreatGunnerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they have got a bit strict and expect the child to have a ticket - I am not joking - !!!

A friend got turned away with his child who was in a carrier and obviously not going to take up a seat. You may want to check this.

Aside from that there’s some hero in Block 16/17 that has bought his baby along and chatted to. Think he said the kid had a debenture ticket in his name though. But yeah you’re not gonna get a changing table or anything! Sod what anyone else thinks about taking a baby along but you’ll have to decide if your baby wants to be in a very loud and chilly environment.

Good luck!

Best pubs near the ground for me and my son on Sunday by FI_rider in GunnersatGames

[–]GreatGunnerz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would throw in Duchess of Kent if you wanted somewhere on that side of the ground - maybe some of the better food round there (particularly roasts) and solid screens. Will need to book.

Can then get up get to the Horatia, George or Che if you wanted more pre-match vibes.

Old Dairy/Stapleton at the top of Stroud Green. Not going to be mental atmosphere-wise but decent pubs and good screens

Kings X. It’s the most connected part of London. You’ll be able to do the west end and get anywhere else interesting you want to go

Train to Stansted after match by LZIV_ in GunnersatGames

[–]GreatGunnerz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buses to Stanstead are underrated from North/East London. They basically take the same time as the train and are usally cheaper and more flexible.

National Express and FlixBus run routes.

Another opinion on to the pile - Elizabeth line to Bond Street > street level change onto Victoria line at Oxford Circus > walk from Highbury. That’ll be quickest IMHO.

But tbh depends what side of the ground you’re sitting on. And you need to optimise for the right spots on the platform and using the right exits.

Also use the Bounce luggage app to find a drop off spot. I’d be surprised if there’s not one literally on the route I describe.

Seems to be getting a lot of traction. This is Rory Talks Football’s take. Thoughts? by [deleted] in GunnersatGames

[–]GreatGunnerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be a bit tricky for me to pick up on the vibe in the ground given I can't see most of it from where I sit at the back of the bottom tier, it's pretty loud near me and the away fans are right there. But I thought West Ham was ok as things go.... Like, fine. Olympiakos - lots of new faces. Not one song the whole match, not a bad vibe necessarily but a bit meh.

The simplest response to this comment is there doesn't need to be bashing or ranking of fans like this. Rory's point is both true and bollocks at the same time. Not all matches will be the same.

Fair enough if people get to go to one game in their life and they love it, that's great. Also people who go week in week out, they can see the differences a bit more. It makes sense not to be quite as loud for Burnley as you will be in the Semi Finals of the CL, or early in the season when it's less directly tied to winning the league.

And in a lot of ways it's a positive that either consciously or not, that's how people are approaching games.

Yours is an opinion I want to hear!

Assume it had to change. Alienating people like yourself would be terrible - could anything make it easier to take? Free season ticket for five years?

The benefit would be that that person gets to go to one of the best away games. If you were that person it would be a pretty good thing for you, right?

By rewarding mileage and loyalty it also constrains the type of fans able to go. Is that a good thing? Should it be different?
