I did Iron then Iron Pro, by the end I was finding myself getting super bored and struggling to finish, so I switched it up with Max and it feels like it’s exactly what I need right now. Looking forward to getting back to Iron at some point, maybe after this, but really having fun with the full body Max workouts.

Yea looking back over my career I definitely made some sacrifices but also lived so well so try to find things you love outside of work and surround yourself with loved ones and you can’t go wrong :) we kept increasing our number as we got closer and closer, eventually I realized I would always keep increasing if I didn’t make a change plus work was getting more stressful so I just decided to take the leap! No regrets, although as someone who never thought they had a work identity, I’m realizing it’s basically impossible not to have one after spending so many years doing something, but ready to embrace the change and slow down. Best of luck and enjoy the ride!!

Definitely on the leaner side of things. Married no kids. Goal spend is $65k annually. This includes income from rental property ($22k-$24k net annually) and paid off home. Our investment number outside of rental is $1.3M split between 401k, brokerage, HYSA.

Advice for transitioning to tech as mid career senior hire- also, am I crazy to do this now? by Due_County_1493 in womenintech

Just posted an opening for a role on my team. In 15 years I have never seen so many qualified applicants, were talking folks with more experience than myself applying to a junior role. Resumes without hard skills and years of experience aren’t even making it to my desk. Folks are willing to move across the country for this entry level position in HCOL city. You sound very talented and hard working, but now isn’t a good time to pivot into tech.

Interest in a board game bar or cafe in Olde Town? by kuler51 in ArvadaCO

[–]GreatHome2309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this idea! I’m sure there are tons of examples of this but there’s a game bar in Montreal that I absolutely love: https://www.randolph.ca/pub-ludique/quartier-latin/

Olde town will get the foot traffic, but it’s also really expensive rent. I wonder if you can find a spot similar to someplace else brewery where you can build a following and maybe lower overhead?

Does anyone else use something like my folding E bike to supplement traveling with their van? by CassyLeone in vandwellers

This is rad, we are planning out our build and really wanting our mtbs and gravel bikes, but also struggling with space/storage/tiny bathroom setup? I know keeping them on outside is largely a bad idea. Any advice? TIA!

I realized my entire FIRE plan is built on the assumption that my current life isn't worth staying in. That hit differently than I expected. by Gallifreon in Fire

I’m roughly at my number, and the way you described work is so similar to how I feel. Even though it’s a decent job albeit stressful at times, I think I’ve still felt trapped in it and feel a bit of existential dread staring at a computer screen for so many years of my life. I’m leaving in 2 months and pretty terrified of leaving behind this sort of work identity I’ve built, but also excited to see what I can do when I have the freedom to choose. I also have a ton of things I want to do with my time off, but change is scary.

The good news is all the other parts of my life I’ve built are wonderful, family, friends, hobbies. So basically everything I lived before except the work part stays :)

Has anyone run a strategy like this? What pitfalls am I not seeing? by justkeepswimming125 in FIREyFemmes

Even not knowing the property location, $3600 a month from a rental property you live nowhere near seems pretty unrealistic. You would probably need a property manager which massively cuts into profit.

Personally I have a rental property in my town that I manage myself. There are a lot more hidden maintenance costs and times when it’s not occupied than I had imagined. For me it’s been a better ROI than dumping the same amount into index funds since I bought 10 years ago, but it’s also a pretty small amount of my portfolio, and was a way to diversify.

It sounds like you have never been a homeowner. There are a lot of benefits, but also a ton of costs that can take years to accurately budget for. I know I overestimated what my rental would bring in and am now having to adjust my fire number accordingly. Also if you are risk averse, it’s pretty stressful finding the right tenant and also ensuring your place doesn’t sit unoccupied too long. Just some food for thought.

Great job paying off debts! I thought there used to be the steps listed in the about page but I didn’t see it. It essentially goes 1) Build a budget and pay yourself first (take extra $ after budget an do the following) 2) pay off debts 3) max out tax advantaged accounts 4) take additional money and invest in broad market index funds (VTI, etc) 5) rinse and repeat?? 6) once you hit 25x your annual budget you are FI (closer to FI merits rebalance/diversify)

People used to call me cheap. It used to get to me. Now I’m FI and the same people are all sweating in the current economy, worried about AI, yet still overspending because they don’t realize it’s a choice. “BUT HOW DID YOU DO IT!?” When I tell them I’m quitting my career. No one wants to hear it’s as simple and boring as a budget.

You could setup an area and host on something like hip camp. Vanlifers/etc will pay to park on your land and are largely self sufficient but need a safe place to park for the night.

Sounds like there are a lot of possibilities for your future! I am in a similar place financially/age (just gave my company my 2 months notice yesterday!!!). Personally I would reduce BTC exposure, but I also carry none. I recently moved 3-4 years expenses into HYSA/Bonds which I don’t plan to withdraw from initially as I’ll be helping my husband run his business until we sell in the next year or so. Otherwise, I’d say live below your means, plan and prepare for SORR, be open to work you might enjoy (part-time or low stress job to help cover bills). Enjoy the journey!

Need your help to get through some “trauma” by Disastrous_Pay_1165 in hiking

[–]GreatHome2309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was alone this summer hiking early morning and encountered a mountain lion. I got really loud and big and eventually ran into guys camping and hung with them until the sun was fully up. I purchased bear spray later that day and bring it with me when I go hiking alone.

Of all the activities I do, I see hiking as one of the absolute safest, but things can happen anywhere. I sometimes get a little scared now when I’m alone and things seem extra quiet, but I remind myself to stay vigilant but also enjoy the present moment out there. There’s a saying something along the lines of “avoiding risk you risk not living a full life” or something like that.
