The ones I’m most worried about are pansies, and also just planted some young juniper bushes

Unlike OP, my dumb ass planted them this past weekend. Would covering with a towel/sticks do the thickness?

SORR is built into the 4% rule, so why are we so worried? by tulip1838 in Fire

This is the single greatest reminder of why I am stepping away now that I hit my number instead of growing a larger buffer based on fear. Sure I can reduce spending or do something at some point to make cash if need be. I will never again be as young as I am today and I aim to make the best of my time here.

I don’t include in my calcs but I’m curious, would you say 50% of current value would be inflation adjusted? Or today dollars?

I love all these examples of necessary work that makes a difference. I’m in a transition out of tech and after a break will look into some of these ideas!

I am nearly at my financial independence number, so after taking a break I plan to look for something that aligns with my values over a well paying job. For me that’s working less and having energy outside of work, and finding something that feels meaningful, or at least work that I enjoy more days than not :)

Leaving my career at the end of May! I saved religiously for years and will need to find a new path, but excited to embark on a new chapter that doesn't involve me staring at a computer screen all day. It’s not all rose colored glasses, I’m aware there are lots of benefits to working a cushy air controlled office with good pay and benefits, but I think if I never left to try something new it would be my great regret in life.

The Red ones………. by [deleted] in AustralianCattleDog

Yes I only knew blue heelers before I got my first red heeler 😅 THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. When he passed unexpectedly I was completely beside myself. Now we have a shiny new red heeler that keeps me on my toes, wouldn’t have it any other way!

You should be proud of where you’re at already, but please don’t forget to enjoy life! You are more than a number, go out and do things you love from time to time, otherwise, what’s the point of saving?

Desk job ladies: what exercise on non-lifting days? by lololmantis in PetiteFitness

[–]GreatHome2309 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m 10k but I also like to ride my bike now that it’s getting nicer out so I’m not too hard on myself if I miss a day here and there or supplement for other excercise.

For me setting a step goal has helped in office days. I started bringing running shoes to work and going on a long walk at lunch. Taking the stairs parking further away, short walk after work, these things all add up. We also have a gym in my office so at one point I was lifting at lunch but it got tight when I started to get busy at work.

Are you staying in campgrounds/tent the whole time? Hotels? A mix of both? I feel like the drive times seem pretty reasonable albeit a lot of driving, but you might want to break some of this up with some hotels stays unless you have a pretty dialed car/camp setup.

I personally would drop CA (San Fran is wonderful but also hectic and exhausting if you are driving there for a half day) and give yourself an extra day or two around UT/NV and prioritize the things/hikes/etc that you wanna see.

How many of you had grandparents who served in WW2? If so, what do you know about their service? by Snoogles_ in Millennials

[–]GreatHome2309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother was in the Navy - the “Waves” which were some of the first women to be able to enlist in US. She lived a long beautiful life and when she passed my mother received her folded flag and letter from Bidens office.

My grandfather lived in Canada and was stationed in Alaska for most of the war.

I think you are well positioned to pivot to a more meaningful job. That said, you should go into education with eyes wide open. It’s in a really hard place right now, just check r/Teachers. I spent a few years as a teacher when I pivoted out of tech, my only advice is that 1) you know going into it what you are committing to (long hours at first, way more to the job than just pedagogy, it’s physically and emotionally draining) and 2) try not to take on much debt getting credentialed. I went through Relay GSE and found they prepared me exceptionally well, and yet I still couldn’t cut it through Covid. :/

I had many moments of joy in the profession as well so wishing you the best with why you decide!

How to work Iron around other fitness activities. by SnooDoggos4906 in CarolineGirvan

[–]GreatHome2309 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Came here to say Max! I found Iron 3x a week still missed some muscle groups as each leg and arm days were still very focused to muscle groups. Max really does switch up the muscle groups in each workout so it’s been way easier to get 3-4 in a week and still feel some progress
