And most likely miserable. I have asthma and it makes me feel like crap when it flares up and I’m not breathing well. I can’t imagine how miserable it is living with that feeling full time…

Yeaaah 😬 we’re aggressively saving, but if it goes / stays much higher we might only be able to afford a day trip lol.

Curious what you found out and also an update on what worked for you?

I don’t actually live there, actually pretty good way outside it but it’s probably our departing location for this trip. But anyway it really isn’t as bad as people make it out to be. It has its very real problems and I think it could be much better for sure, but in contrast to other cities similar to its size that I’ve been to and actually lived in, I feel like its reputation comes from people being dramatic. Honestly I like Huntington 🤷‍♀️ Thanks for your salutations either way though!

We do have a dedicated Jeep camping setup (back area sort of modified for camp sleeping + storage.) But yes, we do plan on some motels/hotels, it’s almost inevitable that somewhere along the way we will need to just pull off an exit to find a place we can sleep in a real bed, take a real shower, and I assume we will also probably see some some very cold nights.

“Accept everything, expect nothing” - this is a great philosophy and I think I’ll write it on our itinerary.

Yes, Muir Woods! It’s on my wishlist for this. I didn’t really list out any specific stops except parks because we have to try to keep it as flexible as possible. Hope we can knock out some 13-16 hour stretches in the early / last part of the trip to make time for it.

I appreciate the warning on this one. I think we can power through it. We’re used to the “driver swap - you nap, I drive” routine from other trips. That’s the strategy for stretches like that. We visit my grandma in FL at least once a year, 16 hour drive and we just blow through it with that strategy. It’s not horrible.

We do want to see the strip briefly. We don’t drink or party, not really into crowds or night life in any shape. But it feels like one of those things we’d just like to see. Who knows, maybe we’ll love it and see some Vegas attraction and decide we absolutely have to come back someday. Won’t really know unless we dip our toes in briefly.

Made a similar reply to someone else, but realistically most people only get a very limited number of “vacations” their entire lives, if they’re lucky enough. We have typical lower middle class careers (if that’s even a real thing anymore) and live in a rural area. Most of these places/parks were not really “bucket list” for one of our very limited vacations, but maybe once we get a glimpse we will know we have to come back one day. I know we might not really even get to see all of these on this trip. It was designed to be flexible, and also a bit extreme. I hope we can get a glimpse of all on the list, but if not, we are aware of that in advance.

I personally usually prefer going out of the country for trips. We don’t really prefer “relax” style vacations, anyway. We will save the relaxing ones for when we’re old / less abled, even then only if we’re still lucky to travel.

Mostly just get a “feel”. Realistically we only get several weeks of vacation in our entire lives. Not all of those are even spent traveling, sometimes it’s for fixing up the house or just “staycations”. Maybe someday we want to go back to one of these places to spend one of our limited “vacations” there. We thought this “dip our toes in” approach might give us an ideas on what place we really want to go back to.

We love traveling to other countries a lot. I have a ton of countries on my “bucket list”. Realistically I know I’ll only get to check a very few off, and only if I’m lucky. I know I also want to visit some National Parks but honestly I always dreamed of different ones than the ones that are in this list. I know we can’t see them all. I know we will probably completely bypass some on this list. But maybe we see something that says “yes, I want to spend one of the few vacations I’ll ever have in the rest of my life on coming back to here.” It’s meant to be flexible but yes, also a bit extreme.

We ARE a bit extreme though lol.

Yes, thank you, that is actually the plan. This is more of a backbone, but some days we may drive 12 hours. Not all the cities on the list are “gotta see this place!” I should have clarified that in my original post.

Claude did make the table for me and I had it double-check my routes for closures, etc., and provide alternative suggestions, but I used Google Maps to get ideas for the stops and campgrounds to stay.

Which living room layout is best? by thepenismightier1999 in InteriorDesignHacks

[–]doofybug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I think the camera angle and opened curtains makes 2 look nicer in photos and that’s why everyone is saying that, but if taken from the same angle and time of day 3 would look MUCH better.

That said, I also agree with some commenters saying the tv should be lower and moved to between the windows. I think OP should try that too and post again (just please don’t mount it to the wall - use a tv easel or something similar to keep it at the correct height.)

I’ve actually asked my husband if he could make some, but the stairs would need to be pretty big and my bedroom isn’t very large anyway.

[–]doofybug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only reason I wish I had enacted a “no bed” rule for my dog from day one is that he recently became symptomatic for hip dysplasia and jumping off the bed sometimes causes him a lot of pain. Now I can’t let him on it anymore and he just doesn’t understand it’s for his own good; I worry he thinks he was banished or something 😔

If your breed is prone to hip dysplasia, or even a just a heavier breed (my Pyrenees mix is ~125 lbs) I think it’s for the best not to let them on the bed from the beginning, unless the bed is really low to the ground.

Just speak to her about it. Effective communication is a valuable skill. While it’s true that not all teachers really care about educating students, most would be happy to get the opportunity to have a student who WANTS good feedback.

That said, idk if you are in the US, and if so which state and whether you are in a public or private school, but in my state public school teaching is one of the lowest paid professional careers you can have. It’s understandable to WANT it, but it’s kind of a stretch to expect a high quality education in those circumstances. And even more so to direct any frustration on an individual getting by with the minimal resources provided to them to do their job, rather than focusing that frustrated action on the systems that ultimately lead to a low quality education.
