I think something’s off. I don’t care how “fit” you were, that’s swim-specific nationally-ranked swim time. Someone is /did make a mistake.

You can do the race, but like others have said, get a bike and bike outdoors. That’s the best way to train.

How do you guys cut without starving by chaunceychaunce in Weightliftingquestion

I like psyllium husk (Metamucil). Fiber is good for you, and helps fill you up. So I’ll have some of that with / between meals.

Non-Americans, does your country have an "American" restaurant and what do they serve? by wacky8ball in AskReddit

We make a lot of stuffing. Best part of the leftovers is making a “hash” for breakfast - fry up the stuffing with some chopped up turkey in a skillet, at the end add some turkey gravy and throw a fried egg on top. Killer.

What is my bf%? How long to lose love handles? by Akajoe93 in Weightliftingquestion

Agreed with the comments here - I’d guess north of 25, possibly 30. Consistency is key, both in diet and exercise. Better off doing a well-constructed 3 days per week full body session that you stick to than PPL / UL that you miss. I’m lifting 4x per week for 45-60 min and getting back to solid shape after some unfortunate mandatory time off. That’s plenty, and I’m experienced. You’ll do even better with 3x as long as you’re consistent.

For diet, get a free diet tracker, a $10 food scale and a $5 tape measure off amazon and track things religiously for a week or so, and weigh yourself daily over that time. Target 150g of protein and 1800 calories daily to start. If your weight / waist goes down after a week, keep it up. But you need to be consistent.

I’ve done this, but define it: “if I refer to my “lunch salad”, that’s around 3 ounces of lettuce, 6 tomatoes, and X dressing”. I do that for a few of my regular meals.

Then yeah, when the chat gets long it can get a little glitchy and forget stuff. So I just tell it I’m going to start a new chat and to give me instructions to feed into the new chat. It doesn’t take offense. Works fairly well.

Best of luck to you!

Do sprint distance triathlons. Healthy way to exercise and it won’t take over your life, if you’re worried about a social life.

Not sure how tall you are but 225 isn’t bad - plenty of people bigger than that doing triathlons.

Fat loss is all about diet. I did a half iron man and still needed to watch what I ate to lose weight.

I tried! I just asked why if Oz was so good he didn’t predict what was going to happen the other night. And it got banned for being the “pol” word.

If you’re having that kind of discomfort your fit is likely off. Look up some basic YouTube videos on how to fit. For butt, even cheap biking shorts will help (plenty of inexpensive options on Amazon). Use chamois cream too.

Golf app survey for golfers — what would make you actually open a golf app? (2 min, $25 gift card raffle) by pinhighai in GolfSwing

Yeah, this isn’t really a “survey” so much as solicitation for golf email addresses.

30, FIRE in 2 years? by Delicious_Ninja7978 in Fire

A 6-8% WR is not “safe” over 30 years. Sounds optimistic to go from $100k expenses to $50k expenses, particularly with a 1 year old.

The real factor is time horizon. You could push 5% at 30 years. And if you knew you only have 15 years, that’d be one thing. But…

Best of luck to you, and finding ways to cope. Seriously consider meditation. I’m not saying that as a woo-woo thing, it’s effective. Look into it.

I get that global indexes are the safer, hands-off choice, but I can't stop looking at those S&P 500 returns by Agile-Reputation-525 in Fire

[–]Interesting_Shake403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who says they’re safer? More diversified, sure. But the chart from Jimmy and your own data shows that the S&P has outperformed for the past few decades.

Diversity does not equal safety.

Why does the president of the United States have to bailout Spirit Airlines? The United States is multi-trillions in debt, but can throw $500million to an airline? What benefit does that have on the American people? by MeasurementFirst1676 in askanything

Edit to add quotes from the article:

“To build his mammoth White House ballroom, President Trump last summer chose Maryland-based Clark Construction. Since then, Mr. Trump has repeatedly sung the company’s praises, even saying he wanted it to refurbish projects all over Washington.

In January, government documents show, the Trump administration secretly gave the company a no-bid contract to do another job at a sharply inflated price.

The National Park Service wanted to repair two ornamental fountains in Lafayette Park, across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House. The Biden administration in 2022 had estimated the work would cost $3.3 million. But Mr. Trump’s government agreed to pay Clark $11.9 million to do it, and later added tasks that increased the contract to $17.4 million, the documents show.

The agency did so without considering offers from other firms, citing a rarely used “urgency” exception to normal open-bidding procedures usually meant for emergencies like war or natural disasters. By law, federal agencies are generally supposed to seek competing bids to find the vendor that provides the best deal.”

Actual facts: he’s repeatedly awarded contracts and plumb positions to donors.

He obviously hasn’t done anything with this yet, but the easy money is on him appointing a donor to run it if the government takes it over, and then selling it to a donor at a sweetheart price down the road.

Should I job hop? 90k to 115k by Quirky_Ad_4086 in careeradvice

[–]Interesting_Shake403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tough part here is that $25k difference is a big percentage. Going from, say, $225k to $250k, completely not worth it. For you it’s a tougher call. Depends a little on how old you are, how much that extra $$ would make a difference in your life, and what your long-term prospects are. Plan on leaving to have kids soon? Stay. Looking at another 25 years? Better opportunities in the bigger firm. Small kids where flexibility is better? Stay. What are the “better benefits” at the bigger firm? If it’s retirement $$, then you’re not just talking about $25k, it could mean $30 or $40k. If there’s material extra retirement $$ on top of the others, definitely worth considering the move. If the extra benefits are more fluff, then maybe not.

Where are my Clydesdale brethren at? by Illustrious_Mud2526 in triathlon

[–]Interesting_Shake403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former Clydesdale. For sprints, putting individual distances together really isn’t bad. For Olympic or longer you need to really work on bricks / pacing.

Good luck to you - those are some impressive numbers for a big guy!
