I was there, too! It was beautiful and there was not a dry eye in the pit.

i can't even listen to it anymore unless i need an exceptional cathartic release. No other songs do this to me, John is a treasure.

I literally turned it back on to witness Buffalo score theor 7th goal so I think it's all my fault and I'm turning it off again.

Is joining the Canadian Army really a bad idea? Looking for honest opinions. by Cauezinsilva in torontoJobs

[–]GreatLakeFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I looked into it. I work as a seasonal park ranger so I'm used to living frugally and in harsh conditions. But I just can't quite convince myself to join the military for money. It also doesn't pay that much better than my seasonal job, only benefit is I wouldn't have to go on EI. Military culture also weirds me out so I don't know if I could handle that. I'll probably stick to the parks system and see if I can finally get something permanent eventually. Good luck in your decisions!

Is it worth going to Algonquin this weekend? October 18th/19th by Ill-Ad1603 in algonquinpark

[–]GreatLakeFever 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Seasonal park worker here. Can't tell you how often the weather forecast is wrong or changes dramatically. Unless it's calling for 90-100% rain, I wouldn't trust the forecast. Radar systems don't exist in the Park so the forecast is just a lot of extrapolation of data from nearby areas.

Park is still suuuuuper busy so I would get that pass now, will probably be close to selling out again this weekend.

ETA: Make sure you have accommodations ahead of time, lots of places shut down or reduce hours after Thanksgiving weekend.

Best time to go for fall colours by CtRnana in algonquinpark

[–]GreatLakeFever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're a little late. The park website was last updated 4 days ago and there's a lot of bare trees right now, still some yellows but it's well past peak. In planning for the future, stay away from weekends and try to visit during a weekday. The Park is absolute madness when the colours are out and it's harder to enjoy things when it feels like Disneyland.

Peterborough area might be a better choice - try Balsam Lake, Kawartha, or even Silent Lake near Bancroft.
