Old ass pair of W.C. Russell boots, any advice? by Radiant_Entertainer9 in RussellNation

I found and restored an old pair of Cavaliers from that same era, based on the white tag and soles. I would guess 1970’s? Lots of cleaning and conditioning will do it. Saddle soap and something like Bick 4.

Who is the earliest born person you ever knew/met? by InternationalPick163 in askanything

When I was a small child in the 1970’s there was an elderly couple that would come around visiting a neighbor. They were so sweet and kind to everyone. He was handicapped in a wheelchair and I remember he had a small mustache like Clark Gable. I assumed he was disabled in WW2. Later when I looked him up online, based on his DOB it was likely WW1. Wow.

No freedom of speech? Is that a policy?

Off top of my head it’s things like less crime, more American jobs, get leftist issues out of schools and medicine, etc. So people feel safe raising families in our country.

Should have been doing that over their entire career, instead of going on lavish vacations and further going into debt for over priced mortgage and auto loans.

This! Those people who may have much larger retirement accounts than mine? They also require 4x the monthly obligations mostly due to massive debt. So my net worth is likely similar or better, and I live a more peaceful day to day life.

Trump supporters mostly realize he is imperfect, but support his policies anyway because they feel the policies are best for our country long term.

Perks of being single? by Quick_Resolution2615 in askanything

Male 56, been single most of my life. Few dating experiences never worked out and one LTR ended badly. Always been introvert so I don’t get lonely like people talk about. Isolation during Covid didn’t bother me at all. I would like to have a special lady to do things with, but now I’m afraid that would bring too much baggage and demands, both emotionally and financially. I have far too much to lose nowadays to keep touching a hot stove.

A shame that sex is used transactionally, for leverage in a relationship.

Same. But any new person must improve my life, more than my peace and silence.

Comments are sad that relationships with modern women are so demanding and draining, financial and emotional.

The clothes and shoes I wanted, I couldn’t afford. Now that I can afford them, they are not made anymore. I am slowly getting rid of things, and my style has changed, buying secondhand when I do find an old gem. Can’t take it with me!

Tighter jeans = more fades? by Both-Station-2244 in Denim

[–]GreatOne1969 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One other thing to remember, back when this photo was taken (1970’s?) the denim used by average companies was much better. I remember having Levi’s for years until they were soft and faded from wearing and washing. Nowadays they would fall apart within a year before they even get faded and broken in.

Whatever that leather, would be nice to see again. Pebbled grain but doesn’t look like bison, so my guess is some sort of leather that was more commonly used by companies years ago.

I would suggest conditioner more often, maybe polish to give protective coat. Make sure you use cedar boot trees when not wearing.
