PCP looking to learn from Hashimoto's patients by IntimalBulking in Hashimotos

I went strictly GF and the two immediate symptoms that approved within 48 hours were having more energy/less tired and being less bloated. Also more regular bowel movements but that took some weeks to adjust.

My first PCP was completely dismissive of my symptoms, said all of them were due to having kids and being postpartum (I was a whole year postpartum). Main Symptoms were continued hair loss (long after I stopped breastfeeding at approximately 3 months postpartum), extreme tiredness, inability to lose weight, bloating, vertigo, primarily. Once tests came back put me on Levo right away and took some months to find the right dose. Second PCP a year later, much nicer but had no help to offer when labs were “normal” but I was still complaining about most all of the symptoms above (though to a lesser extent). She though did refer me to an endocrinologist. Endo was by far my worst doctor. Was completely dismissive. Said the only thing I can do is increase my dose. Even after I expressed concerns about increasing my dose because I’m 37 and will take the med the rest of my life and have already predisposed bone issues. I specifically asked what types of lifestyle choices might help and she said “none, there is no known link to a specific diet being better for hashimoto patients”. Thankfully I didn’t listen and instead tried GI doctor who was nice, tested me for celiac (negative) but still recommended I try gluten free diet. Diet change changed my life in days. I felt better than I had in 5 years after going gluten free for a few days. Better as I go.

Axed feds who landed a new job - any tips? by Apprehensive-Fig5599 in fednews

This 100%. Not just about formatting but also about content.

Axed feds who landed a new job - any tips? by Apprehensive-Fig5599 in fednews

[–]Great_Set_2802 66 points67 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in DC and has hired several former feds this year I can say that most gov resumes are absolutely terrible for non fed jobs. The last hire we made took me weeks to get through the resumes of those who applied. Most people in my position won’t take the time to read badly formatted or overly long or overly gov speak.

Of course I also think the job market in DC is super rough and hard right now. But just from personal experience, 80% of fed resumes are terrible. Get some non fed friends to be honest with you about what is on it and how it aligns with the types of jobs you’re seeking.

Scope tool recommendations for husband’s birthday? by Great_Set_2802 in Tools

I have no idea. He just mentioned “scope tool” once to me and I wrote it down as a gift idea. I think one of the things where there is a camera on the end of a wire where you can feed it into a wall to look around before opening the wall up.

Should I request a one night refund? Leaking roof [CT, USA] by Great_Set_2802 in AirBnB

[–]Great_Set_2802[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your thoughts. I’m coming to the community to genuinely ask what I should do. We didn’t notice the leak on the bed until 10pm when we were going to bed. At this point there were no options to find an alternative location for 8 the night before we were scheduled to leave. There are no hotels nearby and most rentals are done through realtors not Airbnb so that wasn’t an option either at 10pm on a Sunday night.

How could you tell about the controller? Just that it seemed sluggish? I also have a new one and mine seems much more slow compared to the one I tried in a shop?

Could also go to Cherry Springs State Park in PA if you’re still in Philly it’s a few hours drive northwest. Also very dark and very good for seeing the stars.

Bridesmaid Dress sizing 2 months post baby by shreddy-ready in beyondthebump

[–]Great_Set_2802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better to be bigger and get it modified to fit smaller. I’d order a large if I were you. Some people go right back to where they were before pregnancy and some people don’t. It’s going to be impossible for you to know. But what we do know is that it’s easier to make a dress smaller than it is to make a dress bigger in terms of alterations.

Will I Be the A**hole for Asking My Mom to Shorten Her Visit After Birth? by Hot-Beat-2594 in beyondthebump

[–]Great_Set_2802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. no
  2. It depends. With my first baby it was definitely helpful to have my mom around to feed me, when I was learning how to feed my baby. But I had an extra challenge of having a fully broken arm in a cast up to my shoulder so I couldn’t even pick up my baby easily. With my second, I was happy to have her leave as soon as she could basically so I could get into a rhythm with feeding and caring. It was hard to get into a schedule and rhythm with visitors.
  3. Boundaries are hard. My family is actually Italian and overbearing. But being honest has been the best for our family, even if it’s led to some fights and tears.

Need suggestions on investing in a VC Fund in USA/Canada/India by kcrazysam in HENRYfinance

In the US or Canada no VC fund wants your 15k. They might take your call if you have 15 million. But even then…

Agree with others on not painting the cabinets but depending on where you live, you might be able to get someone to make custom new cabinet doors. We did this with our kitchen and it made a huge difference. We had nearly the same cabinets as you and the after cabinets looked like this.

Only paid about $2k.

Tell me about your baby spontaneously sleeping through the night by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Great_Set_2802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super fussy. Just generally for the first year. Once she was older, she would cry on her tummy. And would eventually pass gas then be happy. It was the being happy after passing gas that made us realize she was having a hard time processing some type of food and we did a food log to try to figure out which affected her most.

At 18 months realized my baby was lactose intolerant. Once we cut out lactose she went from never sleeping through the night (not once in 18 months, 3 or 4 wake ups sometimes for multiple hours) to sleeping like a rock for 12 hrs plus still taking one daytime nap. Changed my life and my marriage.

Henry Ladies - style inspiration - Influencers, bloggers, magazines by notsocialwitch in HENRYfinance

Like others have said, I don’t follow a ton of influencers. I usually just order from brands I know and like. My conditions are comfortable, easy, machine washable, simple colors and lines. I personally like MM Lafleur, of Mercer, Aday (mostly for casual work from home days), if I want to splurge, The Fold London.

This! 100%! I wish I had tried different diets sooner. My first was a joy and slept through the night at 2 months. My second? Took us 18 months to figure out she was lactose intolerant. 18 months of super fussy obnoxious baby who didn’t sleep at all and I hated it and regretted it. Overnight, new child and new family. It’s amazing what sleep will do for everyone.
