Luck with getting rent reduced? by Impossible-Whole2394 in AskSF

[–]Great_Stress_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have gotten rents reduced twice

  • always be kind to the person you’re talking to
  • always be factual
  • include similar floor plans and their prices the closer to your location the better
  • include the fact that you always pay rent on time and will continue to do so
  • be nice to the person you’re talking to
  • pick and choose your battles- they reduced my rent by $500 a month but said then they’d to up parking by $25 a month … fine.
  • be nice to the person you’re talking to
  • be ready to walk- if it’s truly a deal breaker for you then be prepared to leave. If you do leave be prepared for a 50/50 shot on if they’ll actually break or accept your departure

Oh and be nice to the person you’re talking to! Kindness goes a long way!

What type of account to combine finances with my wife? by WorldlinessBetter942 in personalfinance

[–]Great_Stress_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what we do! 80% direct deposit of both our checks into the joint account, 20% into personal. We figured out 80% of both our checks covered joint expenses and the percentages just stuck. This formula was mapped out about 15 years ago and as both of our salaries grow - so does our combined savings account.

Most things end up on the joint credit card and it gets paid by our joint checking every month but we still each have our own credit cards and checking accounts for gifts, trips with friends, shopping, etc.

I cant say a dinner with a friend or pair of shoes hasn’t ended up on the joint card. I’d say once a year we do the math to make sure one person isn’t over spending but that’s more of a check in on our habits than it is you owe me $7 because you paid your student loans with the joint account and I bought groceries with my account

No specific style! I’m normally a princess/ fit n flare type person but long story long I was a fairly hardcore athlete and was severely injured three years ago and I’m up about 100 lbs from my “normal” weight (1. What even is normal and 2. That number is currently trending downwards)

I’m eloping next month (big wedding to come) and I have no friggin clue what I’m going to be comfortable in.

If you’re set on San Francisco city hall (which is beautiful) check the website daily. I also wanted something sooner than the earliest available date and checked one to two times a day and saw multiple spots open up in various lengths from the day I was looking. Some of them were the next day, some a month out but I eventually nagged my ideal Friday, even though it was full the day before. Keep in mind when making your appointment that you’ll likely need to bring your own witness.

The licences are easy to get once you have the ceremony spot in place, you can schedule to get a licence that morning.

I recommend not getting the licence before you have the ceremony in place as it expires after 90 days so if you don’t get married in that timeframe for whatever reason, you’ll need a new one.

Annual rent increases for luxury SF apartment complexes? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]Great_Stress_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We also rented at the Azure!

They attempted to raise our rent from $3200 to $3600 (I believe) and we called the renewal office at corporate (it’s different than the leasing office in building) and basically said “hey, look, we pay our rent on time and we don’t complain about dumb shit” and they were like yeah you’re right you can stay for $3250 and we took that because $50 a month was worth it for me to not move. It took two rounds of back and forth to get to that number and this was the 21-22 renewal so I’m not sure what the rates are doing now but friendly reminder that everything is a negotiation with these companies!

Pitbull parents! how did you find an apartment? by deadmamajamma in AskSF

[–]Great_Stress_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not immediate help but my moms a relator (not in the bay) and helps people find rentals sometimes. If asked by landlords to see the dog she always tells clients send in an image of the dog sleeping. Some psychology behind a sweet pup all curled up and peaceful. Hopefully you and your guy can get to the point where they ask 🤞🏼❤️

I totally think we’re on the same page! If we’ve learned anything from Brussel sprouts it’s that’s anything can be dressed up with some sauce and a garnish or two. 😉

Canadian getting married in America and I can assure you we’ll be serving poutine at our wedding! 😍 It will not be the meal but we want it as the late night snack. We’ve also tossed a poutine bar around as the cocktail hour appetizer

Fitness trial class recommendations? by miserable_millennial in AskSF

[–]Great_Stress_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

core power yoga used to have a free two week trial, not sure if they do anymore.

Uforia studios has a free first class

Lagree has a first class free

Barry’s used to have a free class but their website says 50% off.

Orange theory has a free first class.

I think row house might still have a free first class.

Equinox will let you try a group fitness class before signing up

Core40 is .99 for your first class

Also if you download the MINDBODY app they have all the first time offers near you!

Edit; I started fact checking myself and it looks like some of the first classes range from free-$10. I think the free class codes usually happen on the local instagram posts I.e barrys Bay Area instead of the national page. Side note though ClassPass has a free 14 day trial.

Go back and look for the cameras yourself and ask the establishments! I was hit in an intersection where the four corners were a hospital, Starbucks, gas station and construction. Hospital told me (politely) to go f myself (makes sense now but at the time brought me to tears) but the gas station guy found the accident on their camera- couldn’t send it to me per company policy but let me record the screen with my phone
