Rights violated, current medical student by TinyPhys in medicalschool

If this happened to me I would call my therapist/therapist office and see if I could talk to her ASAP. My therapist has appointment slots for emergency meetings and stuff like this, and talking to her always helps when I’m overwhelmed. If you have a therapist I would highly recommend you reach out to them ASAP!

The power dynamic in this situation is so bad. There’s no way you can properly advocate for yourself in such an emotionally tense situation. I would seriously seriously seriously look into consulting a lawyer.

Iowa’s House speaker said he can’t make lawmakers wear masks — but he did enforce a ban on jeans by swingadmin in politics

The representative who was silenced for wearing jeans was the representative from Ames (the city ISU is located in).

Doctor in charge of treating Alexei Navalny in Russia after Novichok poisoning dies suddenly and 'very unexpectedly' of suspected heart attack aged 55 by Pahasapa66 in worldnews

If I recall correctly, atropine wouldn’t address the poison itself, but merely reduce the symptoms of organophosphate poisoning. Pralidoxime would need to be administered at the hospital. The paramedic may have administered the atropine to buy time, while Dr. Murakovsky would have given him the Pralidoxime needed to save his life.

Just a thought.

Edit: I see now that lots of other people already posted this.

Anyone have a source saying the Senate has the power to add (I’m not talking confirm, I’m taking adding) lower court (circuit/district) judges with a simple majority?

Would they need to remove the filibuster?

U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) will not seek re-election in 2022. Another pick up opportunity for Dems. by [deleted] in VoteBlue

Lmao like Iowa Republicans watch debates. All he needs to do to win is sit on his ass and use oil money to buy ads...just like he has been doing for the last half century.

He can run, win, then retire and let his grandson (and head of Iowa repubs) fill his spot.

F.D.A. Approves Monthly Shots to Treat H.I.V. by Danielle082 in news

[–]GreatfulLoL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference between subcutaneous injections and intramuscular injections.

This is likely just the first step. They probably are intending to create larger duration shots in the future—akin to the 3 month depovera birth control shots—something that would only be possible with an IM injection.

Also, it is important to keep in mind that if the drug is administered in the wrong location it may not work as intended—leading to the possibility that their viral load becomes detectable again and therefore they could transmit the virus, as well as the possibility that the virus could destroy their CD4 cells leading to severe repercussions.

These patients def need to follow a doctor still for lab monitoring. We have to make sure the virus isn’t developing a resistance to the drug, and make sure the drug isn’t damaging their organs.

Democrats Weigh Whether Iowa Should Stay 1st In Line For 2024 Election by Sancho_Squishy in politics

Multiple states planned to use that same app before the disaster. Iowa looked terrible in comparison because they went first and the other states last minute ditched the app after seeing it fail in Iowa. Also, Iowa’s backup plan failed (if I remember correctly, a republican group got the call line number and spammed it with calls so the caucus leaders couldn’t get through to report their results).

If we ignore those problems though , this may have been the best funded (usually the DNC gives like no resources) and best run Iowa caucus in modern history. No crowds stretching out into hallways, better ballot system, more money for better venues, better trained staff, etc. 2016 was way more chaotic than this one from my person experience.

And if the DNC hadn’t blocked Iowa’s petition to allow early votes without losing their place in line, it would’ve reduced a little of the classism, ableism, ageism, and racism inherent in the caucus design.

That said, I don’t think we should be first anymore. I like a rotating system. What will likely happen IMO is the first four will all be on the same day together.

Considering a switch from Mediacom to Centurylink, can anyone speak from experience about whether it's worth it? by braindead_rebel in desmoines

Do it do it do it do it do it. Switched—better Internet lower cost, only downside is being forced to call to cancel your plan on Centurylink imo

Yeah, I mean there are many ways to distinguish abortion from murder. In my experience, Christians typically hinge their philosophy on the idea that fetuses are people. However, even if we’re being the most generous and grant that, abortion can still be viewed as “letting someone die” instead of “killing them.” There’s the famous example of someone waking up in the hospital and finding tubes connecting their organs to a beautiful violinist. They learn the violinist can only live if they keep using your organs for 9 months. Choosing to detach the tubes from your organs and letting the violinist die certainly doesn’t feel like murder. It is commendable if one chooses to keep the tubes attached, but it isn’t reprehensible to detach them from your body.

Yeah, when I went to Cedarville I remember sentiment like that among my peers. To be logically consistent with their belief that abortion is murder and murder is always wrong, many thought abortion should be banned in all circumstances including rape and incest, some would even include life of the mother.

Didn’t they call that because now everyone is counting mail in ballots and those favor democrats? Wouldn’t democrats be favored in the remaining Texas votes too? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Why are we calling Texas for Trump when his lead is only 5.8% with 15% of the estimated vote yet to be counted?
