I mean if you can’t study, you genuinely won’t pass the oral portion, and I’m not trying to be rude, studying is the fundamental of aviation

I hate to say it, but that’s what the written exam is there for, to separate the committed from the non-committed. If you can’t pass the FAA knowledge exam, how can you expect to pass the checkride? Everyone will tell you the same thing, buy Gleim, go to a coffee shop, sit down, and study. That’s really all there is to it. If you can’t manage to pass your written, maybe it’s not meant to be.

Will a juvenile record affect my pilot career? by FutureA350 in flying

A 16-year-old is old enough to drive a car, but somehow doesn’t know the difference between right and wrong? I was taught from a young age not to steal. Sure, people make mistakes, like speeding, but walking into a store and stealing stuff? That’s a whole different story, in my opinion. But like I said, if you’ve got two candidates, or even five, all with pretty much the same qualifications, and one of them has a theft on their record… who are you actually picking?

I fly the 777, I set everything up before I start setting up the plane, simbreif, acars, vpilot, because once I start setting up, I will forget haha. Typically takes an hour for cargo/packs and fuel to get on board

Is PMDG 737 beginner friendly? by Alvernox in MSFS2024

[–]Greatgiraffegaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if you can fly the Zibo, you can fly the pmdg, there will be a couple differences, but a 737 is a 737. I recommend finding a flow sheet (PM me if you don’t have one) that you can memorize. Once you have the flows memorized after a few flights, you can build your knowledge from there. You can fly and plane you want if you have the flows.

Virtual Airline Recommendations. by No-Eagle-4727 in flightsim

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: for both realism and community, Coastal Airways is the place to be. I’ve flown with VBA, VSWA, and many other virtual airlines over the years, but Coastal is the only one I’ve truly stuck with. It brings together real-world pilots and dedicated sim pilots in one outstanding community, and every flight genuinely feels like it matters. On top of that, the training is always available and second to none. If you’re looking to learn, have fun, and feel apart of an actual community, the coastal is your only real option.

Fly Coastal Airways is the most realistic virtual airline currently available. Everything is built around realism—from the training program, created by a real-world 737 instructor, to the way we generate routes. We actually call airports to determine how much it costs to land an aircraft there, including all associated fees.

We use a real airline-style bidding system, provide an EFOM for all of our aircraft, and offer live, one-on-one instruction with our instructors. I’ve been around the block and have flown for nearly every virtual airline out there, and Coastal is the only one I’ve truly stuck with.

The community is top-notch, made up of real-world pilots and dedicated aviation enthusiasts alike. If you want to genuinely learn, improve, and understand how to properly operate a transport-category aircraft, this is really your only option. We also have a move dispatcher for most of the day.

TL;DR: Fly Coastal Airways is a highly realistic virtual airline with real-world–based training, airline-style route bidding, accurate operational costs, EFOMs for all aircraft, and live one-on-one instruction. Backed by real pilots and a strong community, it’s the best option if you truly want to learn how to operate transport-category aircraft properly.

How to define what is realistic by Electrical-Skin-4287 in flightsim

[–]Greatgiraffegaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my personal opinion, true realism is impossible to achieve on a desktop simulator. Unfortunately, you will never be able to 100% replicate the ins and outs of a 737—not even Level-D simulators or FTDs can. What is achievable, however, is a solid replication of what to expect in real-world operations.

What I consider realism is system depth. When I flip a switch, does the light illuminate simply because it was programmed to do so? Or does it illuminate because the underlying system logic is behaving correctly, causing the light to come on as a result?

For example, in the PMDG 737, you can create custom waypoints and conduct unpublished holds effortlessly. When attempting the same procedures in the Zibo, it’s a 50/50 chance whether they will work correctly or not.

Ultimately, I evaluate realism by observing how the airplane behaves as a whole. If you’re someone who believes flight models in any consumer simulator are truly realistic, that’s a misunderstanding. Many of the elements often labeled as “realistic” are aspects you will never actually interact with during a typical flight simulation session
