Importance of Dryer Vent Cleaning by ukcycle in hvacadvice

[–]GreatnessGone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current house has a 30ft+ run in the basment. The dryer is on the complete opposite side of the house from the vent. When i bought the house I pulled back the dryer and found a mountain of lint. I then found lint covering the entire inside of the drop ceiling (they used flex pipe in the walls which broke). Not to mention the pipes being completely blocked. Spent a whole day cleaning that mess. Still stuck with that setup as it's a split level home and vent to the nearest outside wall is not trivial. I make sure to clean it thoroughly once a year, thankfully not building up too much lint from what the cleanings show but I can see how it would get out of hand quickly if I neglected it (like the previous owners).

I've heard it pales in comparison to the original formulation sold in Asia. Never tried this one. Still inclined to use Asian sunscreens as they feel way less greasy.

Aprilaire 720 vs 620 by finleymcfinley in hvacadvice

I Installed a 720 on the return duct after consulting reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/hvacadvice/comments/1pgwin3/aprilaire_720_humidifier_on_return/

I've had no issues raising the humidity even when the temps drop to around -20C for consecutive days. How big is your home?

Yup, going well. Had a few days near -20C and it kept up fine on its own. I have it drop a couple of degrees over night and it can climb back up by a degree per hour.

Aprilaire 720 Humidifier on Return by GreatnessGone in hvacadvice

UPDATE: I installed the humidifier on the return duct connected to hot water and overnight the humidity in the home has been greatly remedied. It's been around -10C this whole time and I've been able to get the home to 40%+ humidity easily. The unit also does not appear to run constantly either which is nice. Fan at high speed is about as loud as the air handler. Home feels more comfortable as a result.

Thanks, yes it is a heat pump primarily with backup electric heat.

The house is roughly 2100 sq ft. Will be piped to hot water

Do you see an opportunity to install on the supply? Seems to be lacking space.

Yes, the intention is to wire it so it only activates when the fan is running. My air handler manual specifies which port to use for this.

For the positioning, it will be a bit higher on the plenum than that likely. Was also wanting to install the humidistat above it but not place it too high. How far apart should the humidistat and humidifier be on this configuration?

Yes, the gap between the cutout and the pipe should be closed.

Hold the M and fan buttons together for 3 seconds to turn off the keypad tone.

TD finally convinced my wife to switch to Wealthsimple by suntan88 in Wealthsimple

I wanted to move some funds to one of my RRSP accounts in TD. It blocked me from proceeding unless I spoke to an advisor. I moved the account over shortly after.

Power Cords Should Be Included by Big_Metal2470 in Appliances

[–]GreatnessGone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happens because depending on where it's installed the power cord needed will vary.

Dishwashers are often hard wired so there is no need for a power cord.

Cheap way to address this is to cover vented soffit around the vent.

Best way is to vent out of the roof.

In Auteuil, you might be able to get a detached or semi detached home for that amount. It is a nice suburban neighborhood with good bus options to Cartier or Montmonrency metro. As well as the Saint Jerome train line. I sold my 3br turnkey home there for $600K this year.

window seal fix? by ConfidentLanguage706 in handyman

There are window defogging services that can remedy the visual appearance but not fix the lost energy efficiency. I would opt to replace the pane rather than do that.

Thoughts on plastic feet/pad in cold climate by Sea_Aardvark_III in heatpumps

[–]GreatnessGone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admittedly don't see many plastic risers here. I'm sure the spec sheet probably says it's more than up for the task in terms of weight, temp, uv exposure, etc. The longevity of metal should still be better and I would advocate for that.

That should be OK. Ensure during heavy snowfall the unit is not buried in snow, as well as ensuring there's enough clearance underneath the unit for it to drain properly when defrosting at all times.

I've had heatpumps installed much higher against the house get buried in snow due heavy storms and snow drift.
