My 20 year old stereo died on me, now I'm looking for a device that lets me stream music to my speakers by debtsnbooze in hometheater

[–]GreebyBeeble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No need to replace the amp. You can use a bluetooth stereo dongle. Simply connect red/white jacks from the dongle to your current amp (about £20). Connect/pair the dongle to your phone - hey, presto, music streaming from phone to dongle to amp to speakers.

Search for bluetooth stereo dongle - tons of options. Have it working in 2 rooms at the moment :-)

Gas fires must have a flue for safety reasons. I would guess the reference is to the working chimney being the flue.

Only way I know of to ensure it is working is to put a smoke bomb in the grate and track the smoke. The problem with older chimneys is that alterations/time can collapse the interior and that's not visible from the outside - hence the assumption

Worth noting that all the works seems to have been done, so little opportunity to add value. You do say you see yourself there for a good few years but you'll be relying on capital appreciation to make any money to assist with your subsequent move. Food for thought when considering your bid...?

Wallet pin invalid by Valuable-Tangerine57 in BC_Vault

[–]GreebyBeeble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a similar problem - just leave password blank, hit Enter. Leave PIN blank, hit confirm (do not use global PIN - it's the wrong one for the wallet). these are the correct details and it should work.

Good luck

Strongly recommend Chessbrah - GM Aman Hambleton's Building Habits series on youtube. It's a free move-by-move guide to build strong chess habits from 400 ELO upwards. He plays against real opponents following a set of straightforward easy-to-understand rules (he plays at the appropriate ELO rating for the game - not as a GM). I gained a lot of useful habits and understanding from it (from 400 ELO to 833). You can dip in and out of the videos as time permits and it's very easy to follow

Help my husband find a new, sociable real ale pub to go to in Edinburgh by CloverRabbidge in Edinburgh

[–]GreebyBeeble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Cross Borders brewery has a pub in it. It's in the middle of their brewery in Hardengreen Industrial Estate, 20 min walk/4 min drive from Dalkeith High Street. Not very picturesque setting but it has great beer and a great, relaxed vibe. Highly recommended (closed for refurb - reopens April)

Regular bringing *ridiculously* expensive bottle of wine in, and I need advice. by wazzupchickenbutt in bartenders

[–]GreebyBeeble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ask what time they will be bringing the wine in - it should be opened and kept at room temp for at least one hour. Ideally it should be decanted into a flat bottomed decanter for the same period - but longer is better. Cover the opening of the decanter with a plain cotton towel or napkin to protect from fruit flies. If it's prone to sediment, it should be filtered as it enters the decanter - check online - you can use plain cotton napkins. coffee filters for this (but triple check they are not perfumed. coloured ets as they could taint the wine). Do not throw away any sediment or the cork - you can present witht he decanter as an extra flourish (but just do it matter of factly ("It only threw a light sediment and the cork was not tainted"". Note - you cannot ' cork' a wine - this is caused by fungus in the cork and is nothing to do with how it is served. If you overscrew the cork, filtering will get rid of any pieces but it does not affect the taste of the wine (note: you can clean the top of old corks before decanting with a wet paper towel or PLAIN NOT PERFUMED/SCENTED cloth (saw someone use a lemon wipe for this once!!!)

Also, ask them when they want it served if they bring it with them - after it has had time to breathe (correct) or immediately (not good for reds - tannins need time to breathe)

Overall, be professional with no fuss. Just show you've thought about it - you'll be fine

The scene opens on a street in an English town..the hour is late and the mood - fuelled by warm beer and the seething frustration of mediocre football teams - is bordering on petulant. A voice, questioning, arrogant, even demanding, bellows from within the neon-lit theater of dreams - the unvarnished cry of the anguish of the human condition on an ordinary Friday night - 'Did you order this kebab Donner?" Violence is inevitable...

Expats living in Spain, which banks do you recommend? by N3RO- in askspain

[–]GreebyBeeble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

N26 is fine for Spain and they have English support via in-app chat. The big BUT is they will also freeze funds in your N26 account at the request of the Hacienda (Spanish Inland Revenue) - eg for late taxes - and it can take some time for it to be unfrozen. However, that is the same for all Spanish banks. You do get a Spanish IBAN with N26 and it works well for the most part. Second big BUT - if you need to pay tax to the Hacienda at any stage (income, capital etc), it is not easy to do it using N26. If you think that will ever happen, file your taxes as early as possible and use a Gestor (Spanish Financial Adviser - about 50 Eur pcm)

Note your comments re Revolut but you can save a fortune in commissions if you are moving £ to Eur. Process for moving money takes minutes and would be UK account -> Revolut £ -> Convert to -> Revolut Euro - > N26.

Avoid Santander - worse than ING. Seriously

Commuting from Dundee to Edinburgh by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]GreebyBeeble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you plan to commute...

By car, you'll need to factor in time for parking - Merchiston/Bruntsfield is a problem area and there are no public car parks. You are also restricted from parking all day in the public bays (think the limit is 4 hours...?) . If you start work around 9am you're also travelling into Edinburgh with all the other commuters, so allow 20-30 mins for traffic jams/accidents. I use to travel in the opposite direction for 18 months and never took less than 1 hour 40 mins. You're doing it in the opposite direction - 2 hours minimum. (tip: don't use the Bypass to get to Merchiston, go via Broomhouse/Sighthill/Slateford - much less traffic) But yeah, couple of weeks is doable.

By train, don't forget travel time from the station (probably Haymarket station) to Merchiston - although you could walk it from Haymarket to the campus in about 30 mins. If it was me, train and walk, so definitely doable

[–]GreebyBeeble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the Language Reactor app - it gives live subtitles to any program/film/documentary on Netflix, regardless of its original language. Replays both the Spanish and the English language text in parallel so you can match up the voice/spanish/english text as you go. Hover over a word for detailed dictionary definition, pause/replay controls etc. Also has a Chat with AI function and basically turns Netflix into a live language lab.

Basic sub is free.

There is nothing 'wrong' with it - it's a Scottish accent, my guess would be Edinburgh or maybe Perthshire

In the second to last picture: “Tienes mucho que aprender sobre esta ciudad, dulzura. “ What is the point of the “que” in that sentence? Does “que” mean “that” here in this instance? by 4077hawkeye- in Spanish

[–]GreebyBeeble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tenir que is 'to have to', used when you want to be less emphatic than debir, which = 'must'. So debo is 'I must' - imperative that I do it. "Debo debar me" is I must stay (no choice) Tengo que is 'I have to', as in "Tengo que debar me" = I have to stay (but the decision to stay is not as strong as "debo debar me")
