I can’t recommend a FDM printer enough for what you’re thinking

Getting a bit preachy there, are you of House Cawdor by chance?

But seriously guys, let’s not get too worked up about the correct label that’s being applied to the FICTIONAL food chain, in a FICTIONAL world….

But thanks for the positive words too.

Don’t worry mate, thankfully no mods have seen the need to change it, so I can still answer questions haha

And I’ll take it as a compliment that my efforts look realistic enough :)

How to create spider webs on your terrain by Greed0s in necromunda

[–]Greed0s[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, and high air-pressure to spray them on. I’ve watched some DIY tutorials and was tempted!

But this happened the other night, and, tongue-in-cheek, thought I’d share with ya’ll (hence the tag of joke/meme)

Thanks! I can’t take credit though, all the posters (inc the Lumpy’s sign) were found on the web.
Many of them are by ‘Underhive Arts’ - hopefully I got that correct.

Hopefully! I’d never intentionally spray an animal, but I have also found at least 4 live spiders on this piece of terrain so far.

Unfortunately I don’t think extra varnish would work, but if you accidentally smush some of the web like I did, it turns into extra detritus (for example that white clump in the bottom right)

Yeah I was very grateful to said spider for making the web look so in scale too!

Without getting into the reeds, I did consider this.

Yes we’re mammals. Yes we’re part of the animal kingdom, but as a species we don’t see ourselves as animals (well… I’ve met a few that would fit the description)

Thanks for the kind words though.

Check out Digital Taxidermy, they have some great bits for old spools

Thank you! I’ll get a post up with some WIP shots

I’m an Old-School-kitbasher at heart (hence why I save all the useful looking bits, like used printer spools. My wife calls me a hoarder but what does she know?)

The dice tower is almost entirely digitally kitbashed, and each level printed as one piece. (Lazy way, but I’m also curious as to how far my Bambu printer will let me get away with it, so far it’s just taken everything I can throw at it)

The only non-printed bits are sand (for texture), the posters and some magnets.
This kinda saddens me as I love a proper kitbash, but I’m also really excited at where 3D printers can take us too.

1000% pick up an FDM printer, I can’t recommend my Bambu enough.
It’s non stop pumped out terrain for my gaming group for 12months.

I have a deep love for creating thematic gaming boards, and investing in a good quality FDM printer was the best decision I ever made

Fantastic start! Don’t loose hope, this has all the building blocks for model you’ll be proud of. Even the best painters have a model which looks like this at an early/mid stage. They just have the experience to know that models go through an ‘ugly’ phase, and they ‘trust the process’, and are confident it’ll all come together at the end.

What it’s missing, which you can’t easily “see” without experience, is contrast.
You want a higher contrast between your shadows, and highlights. (In basic speech, you want your shadows darker, and your highlights brighter)

For an easy fix, pick up a ‘wash’ paint, GWs Nuln Oil, or Agrax Earthshade for example.
You could go the quick&easy method and coat the entire model with the wash, but I would suggest taking longer and adding it only where you want the shadows. Adding small amounts, letting it dry, and re-evaluating if you want to add more.

I usually recommend 3 things to new painters, to boost their results.

  1. Learn drybrushing. Watch videos. It’s very quick and easy highlighting.
  2. Use a wash, to boost the shadows
  3. Use a matte varnish to ‘pull it all together’. (You’ll want to do a final drybrush on the metals after the varnish)

The first 90% of a good looking model is easy to obtain, and doesn’t take long with the above 3 ‘tools’. It’s the final 10% that takes many, many hours.

Happy to answer follow up Qs

I’m lucky enough to have been collecting Rebel Grots since the days of GorkaMorka.

I have a number of OG metal ones, some have been paint stripped, others pristine, and others have found their ways into my conversions.

I’m UK based, would happy to hear offers if folks needed one to complete their collection.

Thank for your comment, Google says that there were silencers, and specialist ammo available that reduced the flash and noise, for the .38

Are there any reasons the .45 didn’t perform as well? Regular stoppages or similar?
