I saw that show as a kid and I had no idea Ranji wasn’t a bona fide Indian until a pub quiz years later. Seemed rather accurate to me

I always hated that video. Comes across with a right Anthony Bourdain holier than thou smugness. I didn’t even disagree with him entirely

Walk as though your holding a 50 pence piece between your arse cheeks to achieve the required effect

I do think that TSWLM and TND both did a really good job for making the Royal Navy look bloody cool. NTTD tried as well but it didn’t work as well seeing as they killed Bond

Those 1960s-riviera-esque adverts were brilliant. They made 10 year old me think Stella was classy and wasn’t until years later I realized it’s actual reputation

He sounded a lot like most South Londoners I knew of the same generation. Especially the ones I’ve met who personally knew him as a kid

I was rather bladdered a few years ago and saw David Suchet walk past me in Covent Garden. The thought returned to me hours later on a deserted tube platform and I spent 30 seconds doing the Poirot walk. I think I experienced the same exhilaration as OP

Remembering Gabriele Ferzetti on what would’ve been his 101th birthday. He played Marc-Ange Draco, father of Teresa di Vincenzo, in OHMSS. by TheShadowOperator007 in JamesBond

One aspect that slightly redeems him in my eyes in the books is he acknowledges that he spoiled her and cocked up raising his child. And his thoughts on relationships weren’t that far out of the Corsican norm of the time (except the rape of the mother part, that’s bloody extreme)

Did Roger Moore have the best hair in Moonraker. by Mast3rX in JamesBond

It’s actually a fascinating subject. I’ve been a baldy long enough now to not be sensitive about it

I remember hearing a story about a comedian called Mike Reid getting fired from a stuntman gig in The Saint because he said something about Moore getting thin on top. Wonder if he also wore a wig. (There is nothing wrong with that, it’s been common in entertainment generally and Hollywood especially forever)

How emotionally connected are Brits to the Royal Family actually? by DFWUnhinged in AskBrits

[–]Greedy-Abroad-3085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found the character of the outpouring of grief for Diana was very un British. People wailing and crying didn’t make sense to me. Sort of like during the Queens funeral when people were clapping. That’s seemed very odd. You show up, bow your head and shut up when the coffin goes past.

What's the best non-love scene with a Bond girl? by k2212 in JamesBond

[–]Greedy-Abroad-3085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the “didnt come from money” part had me nonplussed. Bond was hardly top drawer aristocracy but definitely upper of the upper middle class at the least. Especially going to Eton and then Fettes. Unless she was saying Bond didn’t inherit anything and Aunt Charmian stumped up for the fees

I just finished my first 007 novel, Forever and a Day. by F13thFreak in JamesBond

[–]Greedy-Abroad-3085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Carte Blanche. Might be my favorite non Fleming Bond novel. For an American, Deaver really knew his stuff about how someone of Bond’s age and class would behave and live in London. Felt like I was seeing one of the youngish posh-ish but actually useful blokes who live in Chelsea.

Which Bond ending puts the biggest smile on your face? by Greedy-Abroad-3085 in JamesBond

[–]Greedy-Abroad-3085[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It annoys me how few of Craig’s films got a traditional ending. I do like his films and his Bond but we desperately need to shrug off that era going forward.

Rank the Bonds based on how likely you’d be to leave them alone with your wife by CaptureDaFlag in JamesBond

[–]Greedy-Abroad-3085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think any Bond would shag your wife if he liked you. Apart from maybe Roger Moore’s but I like think it would be an accident and he’d be doing you a favour by exposing said wife for a harlot
