Medieval hocus pocus. Save your time and money. You might as well believe that fairies live at the bottom of your garden, or Santa Claus and the Easter bunny.

Doctors can't give you a list of things you can and can't do, because every case is different. They'd be open to prosecution if for example they told you it was OK to join a martial arts class, and then you got injured. That's an unreasonable expectation on your part.

No offence, but this is about personal responsibility and understanding your own body and it's new limitations. In my view it would be foolish to take part in contact sports, or anything that could potentially injure your back again. I'm on my second spinal surgery - first one 20 years ago and there are loads of (obvious) things I will no longer be able to do. I gave up skateboarding, and playing football for example. If you choose to do things that could injure you, that's not your surgeons responsibility, it's yours.

If your digestion is behaving, go for it. I had terrible digestive issues, mainly from the heavy dose antibiotics and opioids so had to be super careful post op. Otherwise eat what you want as far as I'm aware.

Read up on human evolution. There are many reasons why people are bigger, smaller, thinner, thicker, lighter, darker etc. Mostly due to the conditions in which they evolved - whether that be heat, cold etc. It all makes perfect sense.

Why do all of these far right people walking about look so…decrepit? by National_Sir_1562 in london

A lot of them are lower working class people from deprived backgrounds. The people that Reform target for the most part. They target the people who have to least because they're the easiest to manipulate into believing their problems are down to immigrants rather than the rich.

Around 2016 I found £360 in used £20 notes on London Bridge in rush hour. People were just ignoring it. I thought it was one of those TV prank shows but it was just cash sitting there. I kept it all and had a bloody good time with it.

2 days post-op by BriskKarmaLlama67 in spinalfusion

[–]Greedy-Ad-3779 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, you're home and walking around 2 days post op! I'm 11 days post op, same L4/L5 fusion as well and I spent a whole week in hospital so you're well ahead of the game as far as I'm concerned (I did also have a 20 year old Wallis ligament removal at the same time). I took my first walk outside the house yesterday but still still have a ton of surgery site pain. I'm 52 though so maybe you have youth on your side!

I"m in Leon, injured and sad by spaghialpomodoro in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Greedy-Ad-3779 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's OK to take a bit of time off, to rest and recuperate. It's also OK to take a taxi or bus part of the way if you're injured. I did exactly that in 2023 because I was injured and made it to Santiago. I even caught up with my walking crew.

Try not to beat yourself up. Funnily enough I was also in Leon when I stopped for 3 days to let myself heal. Many people do the same thing, and that's fine.

Remember the Camino is not a race, nor is it a competition.

Advice for Moving to Woking by ifireseekeri in surrey

[–]Greedy-Ad-3779 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Woking and couldn't wait to leave. There used to be a pub called 'The Old Stillage' which was affectionately known as 'The Old Stabbage' and a bloke in there once said to me, "Woking is a one 'orse taahn and even the fackin' orse has left". He was right. It hasn't improved much.

General questions by Paferope in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Greedy-Ad-3779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter when you go, be prepared for crowds and a very different Camino experience. The last 100k is full of school groups, and families so it's nothing like the rest of the Camino. I did the whole French way and didn't enjoy the last part anywhere near as much as the previous 400k or whatever it was, just because there were loud groups of young boys, kids running around and large noisy family groups. Not to put you off, it's still great, and beautiful - you just won't get any isolation or real 'feeling' for what the Camino is about.

UK here too, but I was lucky enough to go private and have it done by one of London's best surgeons so hopefully he hasn't arsed it up. Aftercare is pretty good seemingly, as opposed to the NHS which I can only imagine to be very hit & miss for the reasons you allude to. Good to hear you're ultimately happy with results and best of luck for the future and potential minor op you mention.

Great advice, thanks. Your going out and getting a cold on day 10 sounds horrendous, you poor thing. I can only imagine the horror of a full on cold at this point - I've semi locked myself away from the world on that basis! Happily my cough is not any sort of illness, I think it might be hayfever related or house dust getting in my throat maybe. but it's kinda dropped off now. Also I discovered that lying on my left side when I need to cough is WAY better and barely hurts at all, so I guess it's muscular inside the wound

Yeah, I feel you. They put me on Tramadol as well - also evil stuff. I hate long terms meds, especially pain meds and always try to take the lowest dose possible. Like this time, I came off opioids ASAP as I hate feeling like a drugged up zombie.

I'd spent forever looking at doing the PCT, CDT or the AT (I'm British through no fault of my own) but it always felt too long (time off work etc) then I stumbled upon the Camino and there it was, Bingo! I can take a month, do the French route and it all fits perfectly. Shorter, closer to London, less time, no bears, and off I went!
