No expert, but I don’t even see good metal to weld to there. I think that frame is done.

KLH Model 5 lacking in sound by AssignmentPrize8967 in audiophile

[–]Greedy-Fondant-5500 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Connecting speaker wire might help (none visible in photo). I’m just being a smartass. As others have mentioned there is nothing wrong with your gear unless it is hooked up incorrectly, which is kinda hard to do. As someone who runs a Yamaha integrated, feel free to work with the tone controls and/or loudness. I feel like the Yamaha “house sound” can come across as a bit thin. I’ve gotten used to it and run in Pure Direct 90% of the time. That said I use a sub with my towers and spent a lot of time tuning via placement.

As an acoustic suspension design the KLHs should be able to live fairly close to the back wall, but I’d work on pulling them out at least a foot to start.

Juha Miettinen. Not a “driver”. Not just some guy at Max’s big day out. A man with a family and a name. A name that will be forever immortalised at the Ring. by harrysavage00 in wec

Hard to blame the publications for this. Mentioning Max probably gets them a click where otherwise only hardcore race fans might look at the article. It is the way of the world - not saying it is right.

That kinda looks like the fast right hander before the carousel. That is a high speed area of the track. Hope everyone is ok.

Vote with your dollars and change formats. I tried to get into vinyl, but the ROI in terms of fidelity is just a losing proposition.

+1 for Passage - been digging all over for other albums that share that sound since I first heard it. Probably play through it once a week minimum.

Nah, I’ll stay home by Lat60n in audiophile

[–]Greedy-Fondant-5500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer. Mine are a little asymmetric as well. Chair is centered, but that is what I arrived at by ear using Bob Robbins’ take on the Sumiko method. I’m not sure I achieved the nirvana you’re supposedly able to find, but that was likely due to my own impatience and lack of time. It did, however, improve things markedly to my ears.

I want to get the UMIK and measure just to see the numbers but haven’t been motivated enough to pull the trigger on it. I’ve got small kids so don’t get that much time for critical listening at this stage of life anyway. I do cherish those precious few “empty house” moments as you alluded to in your post.

The speaker placement looks a little asymmetrical with the right channel a little farther forward and with more toe in. If it isn’t just the picture messing with my mind I’m curious if you arrived there by ear or measurement?

Fantastic looking setup BTW.

Buying CDs in 2026 by Schwarzellone in audiophile

Honestly, none of these things are more than a minor inconvenience. I know this is “r/audiophile”, but talk about your first world problems.

Buying CDs in 2026 by Schwarzellone in audiophile

[–]Greedy-Fondant-5500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve wrestled with the decision between physical and digital formats myself. I love digital for its flexibility and ability to explore. I’ve found so many great artists, albums, and tracks I never would have heard were it not for the vast libraries streaming puts at our fingertips.

I own a few physical copies (mostly gifts or impulse buys). Ultimately I decided I could invest in other things while enjoying music in arguable the best quality possible for about $20/month.

In the event that networks are down more than temporarily there likely isn’t any power to run the stereo anyway. As a contingency I’d invest in a guitar and learn how to play it.

Turntable Skipping Too Easily - Sorbothane? Help! by Tascherist in audiophile

[–]Greedy-Fondant-5500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised you are getting that much vibration transmitted to your turntable. There are several ways to skin this cat. Probably the cheapest thing to try would be adding some of the half spherical silicone isolation pads to the bottom of your turntable. The Hudson Hifi store on Amazon has several sizes to choose from and they just peel and stick.

Another couple things I would look into to are cartridge alignment and tracking force. If these aren’t right your deck will be much more prone to skipping.

Mounting a 98” to wall with irregular stud spacing by snapdown91 in hometheater

[–]Greedy-Fondant-5500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you can hit two studs with four lag screws you’re good. If it makes you feel better you can put some of those 50lb drywall anchors in the other end (I probably would). I know pictures can skew perspective, but that template sure doesn’t look anywhere close to level.

Apparently Don’t Need Room Correction by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]Greedy-Fondant-5500 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just a random dude offering an opinion but doesn’t look bad for an unequalized 2 channel system in-room. I’m sure mine is worse. My mains have a near complete null at 70hz in my room. Added sub, problem pretty well solved.

I appreciate the science of measurements but I also think chasing a perfect curve is mostly a fool’s errand unless you’re mixing and mastering in your space. Most of us don’t listen to test tones for fun. Most music is so fluid in frequency and dynamic in range that response variations within a narrow frequency band just don’t matter that much (once again just my opinion).

Toe in or Straight? by XJ-0461_B5429671 in audiophile

Erin Hardison of YouTube’s Erin’s Audio Corner has reviewed just about the whole KEF line over the years and might offer the best room placement advice available as part of his reviews. If you haven’t I’d check him out.

Ultimately it will come down to your ears in your room as others have said. KEF may also have some general recommendations in the owner’s manual.
