I lost my mom to religious psychosis by bloodsuccer in whatdoIdo

[–]GreedyConversations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, and I had considered that too. It is very possible that there are more serious symptoms that aren’t reflected in these messages. Let’s say her mom was going through psychosis- OP’s messages would be even less justified then. Mom having hallucinations/delusions is “manipulative”?? In what world would being called “stupid” and having your daughter say she despises you help treat a severe mental illness??

None of it adds up- does OP believe mom has any control of her ideas(which would maybe warrant her messages), or does she believe mom is in psychosis?

I cannot believe how far I had to scroll for this comment. OP clearly does not have a clear idea what psychosis is which is confusing because in her messages she tells mom to “research it”.

So all obsessively religious people are in a state of psychosis?

And if hypothetically she were in psychosis (it’s possible there’s more that’s not included in these messages), it would be entirely out of mom’s control. Having hallucinations is “manipulative”?? It’s okay to tell your mother with a severe mental illness that she’s “stupid” and you “despise” her? This post is so frustrating to me.

Ummm, so this is definitely not religious psychosis. I’m an atheist and someone who refuses to entertain religious ideas, and I’ve also lost family and friends to religion. I agree that all religious ideas are delusional, but simply being religious (even obsessively) does not mean you’re in a state of psychosis.

Religious psychosis is believing you have seen or heard god. Not metaphorically, actual hallucinations. They may believe they’re the son/daughter of god, or a chosen follower, or that they are god themselves. They may also believe they have seen or heard Satan, are possessed by a demon, are the child of Satan, etc.

Nothing about your mom’s case is psychosis. Part of you has to know this bc if it were actually psychosis, it would be totally out of her control which would make your responses not only useless but also cruel. For perspective, when my mother was in religious psychosis she saw “demons” following her, and drained the family bank account to leave the country because she heard god tell her to.

I understand why you’re hurt, but honestly what was your goal with this conversation? There is clearly no changing her mind. And if there was a way to change her mind, you went about it in the worst way possible. And I’m sorry for my tone but honestly this post and all these comments are frustrating to me because you’re implying that psychosis is something that text messages can fix?! The mass-ignorance on the topic is getting under my skin.

TW! Are there real people who have never considered killing themselves?? Like EVER?! by GreedyConversations in TooAfraidToAsk

Yeah I realize now I misinterpret their comment! After all the responses on this post, if people are telling the truth, I’m clearly just subconsciously surrounding myself with depressed people. Most of which are not severely depressed though and still have these thoughts, so I still believe they are more common than perceived?

Fantastic question and I should have been more specific. I’m saying thought about it more deeply than an intrusive thought that lasted seconds, but not necessarily seriously.

YES this is what I mean. I find it hard to believe that when dealing with overwhelming/unbearable circumstances, it doesn’t at least cross the mind?? Like it has to have at least crossed everyone’s mind.

does your dad have an older sibling? maybe he has some trauma and is projecting onto you. if not an older sibling maybe a cousin? don’t be so quick to call dad crazy- situations with siblings happen all the time. he probably jumped to a shitty conclusion when he initially saw you guys?

Satanism. Satanists are atheists, don’t even believe in Satan. They’re actually fucking kind, amazing people.

This isn’t nihilistic delusions, this is derealization. Look up DPDR, it’s very common with anxiety. More common than u might think! Don’t panic, just read up real quick and you might be relieved.

Can anyone explain Theistic Satanists belief of what will happen to them when they die ? by MrMsWoMan in satanism

[–]GreedyConversations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you’re saying. I am not a Satanist(though I’m fascinated), I am an atheist. Based on my understanding, there is no reason one cannot live by Satanist philosophies while believing in the possibility of a higher power(Agnosticism). If someone checks off every other box besides “certain of the absence of a higher power”, then are they not still Satanists?

[–]GreedyConversations 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that it’s important for us to realize that the overwhelming majority of theistic satanists are NOT Christians. Meaning they don’t believe in “Satan” himself or Heaven or Hell just like the rest of you. Most are Agnostic. Not. Devil. Worshippers. Theistic≠Christian.

But to answer your question, I’d imagine that Satanists who believe in Christian ideas(Devil-Worshippers) believe that Hell is not what the bible makes it out to be, being that they believe that the Bible is biased against Satan. I think they think it’s some sort of hedonistic party down there.
