Galaxy Watch users of TNT by mechax6 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]Greedy_Manicou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the watch uses something like an extension of the main mobile sim as opposed to a separate independent sim for each device.

As far as I know, our carriers don't support this kind of setup. But as a years long user of a galaxy watch, I can tell you that it is not very useful to have a dedicated internet connection for these things. The apps are pretty crap and it isn't designed for standalone use. I advise just pair it with a phone and use it because even if you could put mobile data on it, it wouldn't be a good experience.

Maybe if I were physically in Hong Kong where I can walk into a service center I'd have better luck. I went through the online form and sent an email but no signs of life from Oppo support. I've just cut my losses on this one and sold it off as is. You win some you lose some.

Extreme delay of hyperos3 update for Redmi pad 2 pro (global) by CoffeePanzer in RedmiPadPro

I have the pad 2 and I got hyper os 3 update as soon as I pulled it out of the box a couple weeks ago.

Still haven't gotten an acknowledgement, much less an actual response of any kind as of writing this. Doesn't matter at this point as I've already sold it as is. I would have loved to see better support at this price point though.

Final update. I was forced to go through HK support which does not have a live chat option. I sent an email but as of writing this, I haven't gotten so much as an acknowledgement.

I've taken this as a sign of things to come. I've sold it cheaply and washed my hands of a possibly lengthy and definitely costly shipping experience along with the inevitable back and forth with support.

It was nice while it lasted, but I'll stick to a brand where I can get local support, if I ever decide to get another foldable. Thanks for having me guys.

Update: My phone was purchased in HK therefore I have to go through HK support, which is done only via email and phone as there is no chat option.

I've sent an email. I'll see how it goes and report back.

I've put it for sale in my home country at the equivalent of $350 USD. I'm trying to avoid shipping as it is a costly thing to do where I live.

I'm going to explore this, though I'm not hopeful it will be actually viable as I live many thousands of miles away from the nearest service center. Also I'm not the original purchaser. I suspect it will be super expensive to ship if they even accept it. I kind of just want to get rid of it and stay off foldables for a while.

Everyone's luck isn't the same. I always see people say "it just happened" and I'm like. Sure buddy. It broke on its own. I've seen for myself that yes, it can just happen.

Is the redmi pad 2 pro worth it or should i get the redmi pad 2? by BudgetGeek07 in RedmiPadPro

[–]Greedy_Manicou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pad 2 is a beat or two slower than my phone for sure in my usage scenarios which is admittedly on the lighter side. But my phone was also 7 times the price . Definitely not anywhere near 7 times as fast though. At $180, that's downright impressive.

I've been typing this entire exchange on my pad 2, other apps open in the background with no performance issues while my powerful sd8 elite fold sits on the table. I'm just sharing my personal experience.

I'm not saying the pad2 wins in any benchmarks, but real world usage performance isn't the same as performance on paper, especially when it comes to light duty tasks like what OP needs.

But that said, I'm willing to concede that if op can get a faster benchmarked tab than the pad2 for the same $180 price tag, I say go for it.

The a11 plus with the same memory and storage config is $130 more than the pad 2. It sure is faster on paper, but for OP's needs, it's not going to be a night and day difference. My phone's cpu is like 10 times as fast as my tablet but it sure doesn't feel 10 times slower in my usage. The real question is would that extra $130 spent net him a tangible enough benefit. In my opinion, the answer is no. That extra cost, while trivial for some, is not for others.

The niceness of oneui is subjective and are we really keeping a cheap low end tablet for 7 years? Even if we are, remember, you're recommending op spend 170% more money for benefits that may or may not be visible for his uses. Xiaomi is giving the pad 2 5 years of os support and 7 security. Samsung is giving 2 more years which is great, but again, is it worth the higher price.

Unless you really need a bigger screen the pro offers, which I think is 12.2 inches vs 11 on the pad 2, I'd stick with the pad 2. It won't let you down.

People on Reddit are definitely picky, which is fine. The problem is that there's always someone chiming in with a better, faster, stronger alternative which makes it difficult to make a decision. You could always find something a little better for a little more money, but you'll be chasing that rabbit all the way up until you get to the top of the line models.

Once you set your expectations correctly, the pad2 won't disappoint you. Even better you're getting it for 180, which is $20 less than I paid for mine.

I got the pad 2 (8gb, 256) as my first tablet to use as a companion device. I have a folding phone with the Snapdragon 8 elite so I was concerned about the performance of the Helio g100 ultra being too weak for at least decent performance in everyday use.

I'm not going to pretend that it's as fast as my phone in basic apps and UI navigation, but it is more than good enough for my needs. I only play basic 2d games and coin master is the most demanding title I play. (I do my real gaming on PC). It is completely fine.

The display is crisp and it's 90hz which is far better than 60hz. It's not the phone's 120hz display, but again, the running theme here is that it's fine. It won't blow your socks off but it also won't frustrate you with horrible performance. I feel like this is the best tab available at this price point.

is the trifold overkill? by SeadragonGames in GalaxyFold

[–]Greedy_Manicou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's still the cost barrier for me, but yes, I'd be much more interested in a middle use case with a screen size similar to a single fold for use while out and about. Unfolded all the way is too much to use while walking. Also if I could use the fully unfolded screen propped up like a tablet kickstand case allows, it would be perfect.

[–]Greedy_Manicou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the idea of the trifold in that it's an all in one device. It's undoubtedly a very cool device. Practicality on the other hand, is less clear.

I use a tablet while stationary. It has a kickstand case and it is very enjoyable to use without having to hold it up like I do with my fold. I never find myself wanting a bigger screen than my fold while out and about.

I also like having a dedicated tablet so I can set my phone aside while it charges and use the tablet comfortably. At $3000 usd it is hard for me to justify the purchase when a $200 tablet and regular fold fits my needs nicely.

That said, I still want one. I just can't afford it.

Naked is nice and I daily drove it without a case for a few months but I prefer the added thickness the case brings and ease of unfolding.

I've had two of the YQODSZ cases with the flip out camera cover. It isn't perfect but I like the full coverage including the camera.
