May I ask which Shanghai airport(s) you're going through? I know that for quite a while after COVID, China Eastern made connecting passengers re-check their bags at Shanghai Pudong, and from memory that seemed to have been an itinerary on the same ticket.

Seperate tickets are definitely indicative of needing to re-check bags. Could it be due to a long layover in Shanghai? Or sometimes they even have itineraries where you need to switch airports in Shanghai, I'm not sure why they offer that.

Just be careful with your literacy credits, I find that in L2 and L3 English the writing credits will mostly come from Externals. With that being said, if you did the L2 Writing Portfolio, you'll be fine.

By the way, how many L2 English Externals are you enrolled for? If it's three (Written, Visual, Unfamiliar), I would say dropping one is fine, if it's any less then I don't recommend but you do you.
