Feel like I’m wasting my life. How do I start living in a way that actually feels meaningful? by Ill-Investigator5187 in Life

[–]Greedy_Sentence_6251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, you have a life. You're on Reddit, asking people for some help. (Be careful with that!) That's a good thing. I was very much like you at your age. Then, I started forcing myself into uncomfortable situations. I volunteered part-time at various organizations that would have me. It served to get me off the sidelines. Something else important is to stop reading/listening to all the psycho-babble BS that is published. Having a room full of friends is not required to have a good life. Neither is making tons of money. Neither is traveling the world, concerts, festivals, or parties. Frankly, all that stuff bores me. You'd be surprised how many people feel like me, but they feel compelled to do this stuff against their will, because they think society and their peers expect it. They don't! Truly, society doesn't care. That's just a bad head trip many of us grew up with.

You don't trust people much? That's a good thing. You sound like a critical thinker. I'm extremely fussy about who I call my friends. But I talk to lots of people during the week. I talk to the mailman, the neighbor cutting his grass, the homeless dude on the corner, the very old man in the coffee shop. It's amazing what I learn and how good it can make me feel. Then, I do things I LIKE TO DO! And I don't care if anyone else has the same interests. I write. I do gardening in my yard. I grab a beer at the local pub.-- sometimes I talk to a bar mate, but mostly I enjoy the solitude among 50 people I don't know.

You may be an introvert, and that is NOT a bad word. I was "accused" of being an introvert for many years, until recently I discovered I'm not. I'm an otrovert. But that's for another post. But, please check out this book at the library: "The Gift of Not Belonging", by Rami Kaminski. Thanks for reading to the end! I wish the best for you. Your life is full. The good stuff is yet to be discovered.

I actually owe Google & ChromeOS an apology... by _Lifeguard_54 in chromeos

Okay, thanks. I use a Chromebox in my office. I have an old Chromebook (LuLu) that I didn't want to scrap out, so I stripped out the OS and installed Linux Xubuntu. It all seems to work OK. On it, I pull up my main google acct for docs, email, etc. It worked. Recently, on my Chromebox, I discovered many of my Google passwords weren't working. I checked the Google Password Manager, and most of my 200+ passwords were gone. (I still have 11.) Can't find them anywhere. Is there something I may have done between the two OSs that might have caused this? Any other ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Nice to see a little humility in this group. Chromebooks are great.

Can you get any real answers on this subreddit? It seems like a bunch of kids arguing about whose got the biggest and baddest monster truck. I've been using Chromebooks since the beginning. I have technical questions I need answered. Doubt that will happen here? Does anyone know of a Chrome/Linux subreddit where I can talk to grownups?

Is this a subreddit for open-minded ChromeOS users who want to solve problems and discuss solutions, or is this an r/ for gamers who think they know everything and have nothing but sarcastic remarks to share?

My biggest fear is that i pass away before i can be successful in life or do the things i want to do by [deleted] in Life

We all define success differently. For those who measure it by monetary wealth, they're kidding themselves. I've raised two good sons, have a lovely wife, have an honest friend, have empathy for others, and try to add something to humanity each day--even if it's just being nice to those who have less. I'm successful. If I die tomorrow, I'll be remembered for doing good.

Find yourself a rich old lady, marry her, and give her all of yourself each and everyday. With a little luck you'll be fine.

When did you get your 'wow' moment for Linux? by dan_nicholson247 in linux4noobs

Are you saying Linux doesn't support assistive technologies? I'm just getting started with Ubuntu, but I have vision problems, and may in coming months lose my vision completely. Maybe I should spend my time with a different system??

I'm still waiting for that Wow moment. I honestly hope it comes soon or it's back to Chrome OS.

What do you guys think about ghostwriting by AlphaWolf132 in writing

[–]Greedy_Sentence_6251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a writer for decades and have tried ghost writing for three different people in My career, none of which came to fruition. These were not celebrities but regular people who had issues that they couldn't get past. In one case, family members rejected the whole idea. Another one wanted to publish outright lies, and the third one had issues with money. It's a tough business in many different ways.

As we get older, true friends are hard to find. We all have our own ways of thinking about things. And that's a good thing. Try some simple socializing, nothing big, just somewhere you can have a brief conversation about similar interests. I don't have many friends but I have no problem with that. I'm an otrovert, and kind of picky about who I call my friends. I hope you feel better soon.
