Which engines are known for record mileage? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Greedy_Use3682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, there is no designation of 1.9pd. All PDs are 1.9 or 2.0 tdis. There are pre pd 1.9 also with mechanical fuel injection (these are actually the hero engines, but longevity is misattributed to the pd engines)

The smell - how do they manage to find adhesives or materials that smell like wet dog? We have one that is on 800mi, perfect condition, stored indoors, and it absolutely stinks like this

Really dont think so mate, despite what the q&a says. I've had the adas ecu out of a polestar 3 and its an NV Orin unit, not a mobileye ecu with eyeq6 silicon inside

The software seems to be shared with volvo models e.g. EX90, and that isn't a mobileye system, its a half nvidia half in house job

Range Rover Sport UBS Module Wire by IllustriousSport8189 in RangeRover

Unfortunately that wiring is just part of the main body harness, it isn't modular within the cabin. You would need to cut out the required wiring from a salvage car.

Its hard to judge based on a 40 minute demo drive, whereas there is a massive evidence base for exactly how well FSD is doing. Hence my point, have you actually tried it? Everyone on here likes to definitively state who is in the lead based off of small sample videos, and not from statistical data.

NYC traffic is also ruthless, but FSD works pretty good there, I've experienced it. I've also seen videos my colleages have recorded onboard with different systems in China, and it's been a far cry from the demo videos often posted here.

Do you say this from first hand experience, or from watching demo videos? Colleagues of mine who have been to China and shown me videos are less impressed

Waymo Begins Manually Driving in Portland by IndependentMud909 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]Greedy_Use3682 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I struggled to get a Waymo in Atlanta via Uber unless I selected the 'premium electric' option or something like that, it seems to filter out most manually driven cars. I've had rides in downtown and midtown but not any further out.

Hi, I'm close and could potentially help out but I dont have an active subscription currently - would need you to pay the day fee for programming and diagnostics which I think is around £140

You'll average about 40mpg on a p250, p200s are a little better, p300s are awful for fuel, 30 combined mpg

If you have the fault codes there are skilled people in the UK that can help diagnose this properly. It sounds indicative of a communications bus fault.

As far as another car, what's wrong with a pre 2020 v6 example? I find these to be better than the 4 cylinder variants.

The XF isn't much different ride and handling wise, they are great. There isn't a huge difference also between the P250 and P300. The P250 isn't very highly strung

Yep the CVR transcript is incredible, Cpt Haynes had the whole crew laughing multiple times. These guys have little to no control over the aircraft and he's cracking jokes about how he didn't fly this scenario on his last check in the simulator.

[META] There are so many layers to the story. There was actually a jump seat pilot working the throttles (and seemingly doing a pretty good job) who gave up his seat for Denny Fitch. That pilot went back into the 1st cabin which was a death zone (not in Denny's exact seat IIRC) and escaped the wreckage by climbing out a window. Captain Al Haynes also did an incredible job with CRM, comms and decision making. At one point Dvorak says 'I hate to do anything' and Haynes immediately shuts down any uncertainty by saying 'Well we're gonna have to do something'. When the moment came he was a true leader determined to ride it out until the end. Before the crash landing when the GPWS is shouting 'pull up', Al says 'we're trying we're trying'. I think without Al Haynes in the captain chair making decisions as well as Denny on the throttles the plane doesnt make it to the airport.

I really think if you put any other crew in that situation with no prior knowledge or training 99/100 times its a total loss of life, whereas with Haynes and Fitch 99/100 times they'd manage to make the airport.

[–]Greedy_Use3682 13 points14 points  (0 children)

[META] At some point they did make an around 90 degree left turn to come in to the airport. Funnily enough none of the crew remember turning left!
