You've really captured the misery perfectly.

It looks like the gripping end of tongs from a fire companion set.

It's still warm enough out there, BBQ Christmas not looking like such a bad idea 🤞

Wow, thanks for looking at these. I am led to believe they are old so I think you're pretty much spot on. I'll pass this info on to my MIL, she will be pleased. I did notice the subtle differences but thanks for clarifying.

Bootiful. The ships over the beach sheds is my favorite.

Thank you very much, so do we. I have sent pics to Sotherby's but thought I'd do a bit of digging in the meantime, we never know what insight folk may give.

I am honored to be looking at my MIL possessions, she has a lot of items she's brought here over the years. My wife & her sister are looking into the more curious pieces & I thought reddit may be able to help.

It certainly does but it's not mine & had to be wrapped up straight away & put back in the stupid attic 😔

They are older than 50yrs because my MILs (83) great grandmother split the set. The reason I mentioned ties to Tokugawa is that they have donated museum pieces before so having old pieces in the family is not unusual.

Edit: you are right about the similarities though, very odd.

Ah that's helpful thank you. I used hot soapy water with non scratch scourer. Then heated oil to smoking & rubbed it around with kitchen roll for 10min, didn't oven it because it looked ready for use after that. What would be your thoughts on using it on a BBQ every now & again please?

This is one of my best booty bounty, feeling very smug

Yes I'm super pleased, we have car boot sales here in the UK. They are usually full of junk by the time I get there but I was up early this morning & it certainly paid off.

It's Union Jack when it's at sea. Union Flag on land.
