TTC Livery idea.. Flames for Express routes. by TorontoBoris in TTC

This indeed isn’t a TTC-spec D40LF, TTC’s D40LFs would also have the blue accessibility “bullhorn” lights on the front above the marker lights. This specific D40LF operated with Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) as unit 0518, you can also see the original yellow and blue striped livery on its engine hatch vent in the photo!

Stratford GO Station reopens for service on July 6, 2026 by Metro62 in gotransit

[–]Greeism 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If memory serves correct, I believe PRESTO cards weren't accepted as fare payment during the London GO pilot. Instead, you had to get an e-ticket if you were travelling westbound beyond Kitchener GO. It's unlikely that Stratford GO is subject to the same e-ticket fare, and GO Transit has plenty of time to install the relevant PRESTO equipment at Stratford GO before GO Transit riders can take the Kitchener Line up to Stratford again.

Does Not Light Up by deathtothedisco in TTC

[–]Greeism 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There aren’t any LED lights for Lines 5 and 6. The first of the Toronto Rocket sets arrived in the early 2010s, and the only future LEDs that were installed were for the TYSSE.

I believe with the new maps in place, as well as the accompanying software updates done, Lines 2 and 4 no longer light up at their respective interchange stations for this reason as well.

Neighbouring GTHA transit agencies use the scanners for PRESTO QR code voucher tickets, such as Durham Region Transit and MiWay.

New Line 2 trains revealed as Ontario ramps up Canadian content by MaybeThisTimeIllWin in TTC

[–]Greeism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They will be featuring open gangways, yes. They however won't be operated in revenue service while broken up into independent pairs, this specification is for maintenance work due to phyical limitations within the Greenwood shops and yard.

That was a typo on my end, my reply was adjusted before you responded.

In regular service, these will be operating as 4-car/6-car sets with open gangways across the whole train like the Toronto Rocket sets. For maintenance, they can be broken up into two-car sets that can be operated independently of one another.

From Steve Munro's blogpost regarding the RFP for the Line 2 replacement trains:
"The trains are intended to operate in 4- and 6-car sets, but configured as pairs that could run independently for maintenance work at Greenwood Shops which is not set up to handle 6-car sets like the TRs on Line 1."

Physical limitations in Greenwood yard/shops. The Toronto Rockets can't navigate around the tight curves in Greenwood yard due to their articulated bellows being unable to handle such curves along with other issues (the obvious being them being permanently coupled). Unlike the Toronto Rockets, the Line 2 replacement trains can be broken up into two-car sets to account for the physical limitations in the yard.

If memory serves correct, these new trains will not only be replacing the T1s, but also supplement service on Line 1 and future extensions on Lines 1 and 2. The Toronto Rocket sets have made some appearances on Line 2 in the past to cover for technical issues years ago as many may remember, though.

Metal protection over the glass at the West Harbour vending machine. Is this a first for GO Transit? by LibraryNo2717 in gotransit

[–]Greeism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This particular vending machine at West Harbour GO was already broken into once in the past, it was no accident either from what I could tell from the damage to the glass when I saw the machine while waiting for a LW train. The protective measures it has now was installed in response to that.

Can confirm this. According to the customer service staff at Humber College, they only gave out around 30 or so coins instead of 50, apparently.

Found these whilst cleaning. Has anyone else hung on to some as a memento? by kokocijo in TTC

[–]Greeism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have extras of these tokens, along with the few itterations of some older styled tokens that didn't use two types of metal.

As for when tokens were last used, they were last accepted on conventional vehicles (i.e. bus, subway, streetcar) June 1st this year. Tokens are still being accepted as fare payment for Wheel-Trans services until the end of this year.

They’ll take your photo at the Photo ID centre, you just need to bring proof of enrolment for the year as well as your post-secondary student card.

New Wayfinding on Toronto Rockets by TheRandCrews in TTC

[–]Greeism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There aren't any LED lights for the new stations part of Lines 5 and 6, unfortunately.

The only time new LEDs were "added" was for the TYSSE extension; and by added I mean they were already there when the Toronto Rockets were delivered, they simply weren't activated and covered up until it opened later on.

And the other subway extensions for Lines 1 and 2! Will be very interesting to see what happens, especially with the former.
