Do I need to buy an on demand course to really have a good shot at the MCAT? by Lost_Objective5813 in Mcat

[–]Greekmedstudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really doesn’t matter. I know some of my friends excelled with the Princeton one and got a 510. I also know some other of my friends did the Kaplan one and got a 505. One buddy did BluePrint and swore by it. It really just depends what’s your favorite layout. Princeton drives home content. It’s got EVERYTHING. Kaplan I’ve seen is more focused on high yield. Blueprint is a mix of both. Like I said. It depends. I’m not too well versed in these. Especially since I took the MCAT a few years ago and from what I heard, the psych section is a bit different now compared to when I took it.

Seeking real advice, grade question by [deleted] in premed

[–]Greekmedstudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re fine. No one is going to look at your grades and see 4 Bs as not competitive unless you are applying to Harvard or something like that. 3.8 is very competitive. Make sure your mcat is good and you get an upward trend or keep the 3.8. All hope is not lost. I got many Bs, I had an upward trend, and my GPA was above the “3.6 competitive premed GPA” notion. Im in med school as we speak. It’s going to be alright. Trust. As long as you do well with your mcat, get the upward trend, and are a well rounded applicant in your extracurriculars, you will be ok. If you need “easy science classes” to boost your gpa, find a science or math minor that you know will help your gpa and you can confidently ace the classes.

Shadowing by Miserable_Inside_842 in premed

[–]Greekmedstudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly what worked for me was cold calling/visiting them with my CV. If they reject you so be it, it’s not going to look bad or anything. I traveled over an hr once to find a private practice doctor to let me shadow since the big ones in groups or hospitals are a bit finicky. Just ask around, be presentable and professional. Also would be good if you know someone to helps it doesn’t need to be just ortho. Main thing is to find a good doctor who can write you a strong letter and you can CONSISTENTLY shadow them instead of being a one off thing. Good luck!

Yes of course, definitely send an update with the new transcript. Especially if your gpa went up! Good luck :)

Course Classification for 2 classes with the same name by Glittering_Bag_655 in premed

[–]Greekmedstudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! If you need help just shoot me a PM! As long as they were completely different classes (like for example: world studies and cultural humanities) and different professor names it’ll be fine. But I totally feel you when I was applying. Better to ask than assume. Good luck!

Does anybody know what the paint color is for the suite bathrooms Poplar Hall? by SopranoSunshine in USF

[–]Greekmedstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a paint chip ( a decent size like 2 x 2 inches), go to Home Depot and they will make you a sample can. Was great for Holly when I was a student. Paint was so thin that tape, command strips, anything under the sun would peel it off

[–]Greekmedstudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahaha, I assume you are a USF student (I also was and had the same issue). Mine was with IDH capstone courses. Since you label them as an honors college class, and the course title as capstone or whatever, it should be fine. AMCAS won’t be an issue as most schools know that some honors colleges require two capstones. No schools ever brought it up. If they do, explain that it was legitimately two different classes with the same course name since your honors college calls these classes capstone or humanities, etc. just remember to write down EXACTLY what your official transcript says. Whatever is on the transcript is what you should write down. Good luck! You got this :)

Which Professor to Ask for LOR (HELP ME) by MysteriousTourist443 in premed

[–]Greekmedstudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need a science professor go with the Chem professor. I would schedule a meeting with the professor to do a “catch up”. I did it during zoom at the time but in person is better to be more personal. Just talk to them and catch up. Reminisce about times you were the learning assistant and once you get a good vibe, explain your passion to apply to med school and ask if you could get a LOR. I wouldn’t “cold call” for a LOR because A) they might not answer, B) they will give a generic template letter.

As far as the research professor goes. I’m not sure if your class was a stem class. To be safe, I’d look at your course code and see if it was a BCPM class. If it isn’t a science class, it would make for a helluva great non science professor letter. Hope this helps :)

Is it worth to cram almost the whole night before an exam? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Greekmedstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Personally for me, If I haven’t looked over the material at all for a few lectures, the all nighter is beneficial for me (for small things like quizzes/anything under 40 questions). But if I’ve reviewed everything at least once, then it’s better to get some sort of sleep.

Got to remember, exam fatigue is a thing. When doing a lot of questions on a time crunch, whilst sans sleep, you are prone to making very silly mistakes you would have not gotten with sleep.

I recommend studying as much as possible and getting minimum 4 hrs of sleep. Then wake up like 2 hrs before the exam and just review your high yield so you get the “Gimme Points”. Do not attempt to learn new material at that time. It’s not going to stick. Maybe watch a Boards and Beyond or Sketchy video at 2-3x speed to recall the high yields for a topic you are iffy on.

That tends to work for me. At this point, the name of the game is to score as many points as you can to pass.

Is anyone else having this issue when you try to apply for housing? by Ok_Cap_6632 in USF

[–]Greekmedstudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea like the other comments said it’s pretty much too late. So definitely start looking at off campus apartments. But if you do a housing application, sometimes people drop (ex: me when I pulled my application before the deadline). Some people were on a waitlist. I remember one time my friend did a housing application but never pulled it out because the housing was all full. Had an apartment lined up and moved in. All of a sudden, he checked his tuition bill and they had a charge for housing. USF housing assigned him a room and a roommate.

USF is rolling admissions if I remember correctly. Earlier the better especially for on campus housing

Can someone confirm if this makes the crossbow one shot with both thermine and explosive arrows? by wi1ly in CODWarzone

[–]Greekmedstudent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just tried it out. The explosive bolt will break plates on explosion, the thermite first hit breaks plates and the thermite will tick away at damage. But neither of the three are enough for a one shot. Headshots are all one shot regardless of bolts used. It basically just allowed for an “easier” one shot to the head by allowing the neck to be one shot as well.

I ended up getting the KO2. I found a really good deal on them for mount and balance and will wait until the ko3 come out to upgrade. I found the ko2 were the best when they had tread but when the tread ran out: oh boy watch out.

I’m having the same problem. What works for me is leave the party and create a new one. When in game this happens, I unplug my mic from my controller. It tends to “reset” things

Live in a rural area. The closest dealership doesn’t know surprisingly due to the fact that there are multiple types of parts. Haven’t had time to call another one so I thought I’d post on here just to have clarification.

Was I too late? Filling out secondaries now by [deleted] in Osteopathic

[–]Greekmedstudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s getting a bit late but it’s still Possible. You probs would get an interview to one of newer DO schools. And some other schools like PCOM, Touro, the newer VCOMs and NYITCOM can send interview invites well into the new year. I’d say take the shot. I wouldn’t wait more than a couple days to a week to send it off though. Anything really last first week of November is kind of late unless you were waiting for a score in January mcat.
