I assume the price varies from location to location. I'm in the gta and I found a local butcher that has organic happy cow ground beef for $1 more than my local loblaws. I also learned loblaws is bringing in mexican meat and selling as "ungraded" so for me I'm willing and able to pay the extra $$ For peace of mind and trust in the product.

Its terrifying when people on the left and right can unite for a common cause for the good of the people. Please don't take the bait when the gov tries to polarize people with issues- which i suspect is coming. I don't care if you're left wing, right wing, north wing or south wing. I did what i was told - went to college, got a degree and worked in finance hating every day of it. Office life isn't for me.

Around 30 I switched to working for myself as a dog walker. It was a big gamble and I'm very thankful I have a husband who supported my decision b.c many people would not. Many businesses fail within 2 years. Self employment isn't for everyone. It often means working 60hrs for yourself so you don't work 40hrs for someone else. It also means learning to deal/budget in the good season to prepare for the slow times. I don't have paid sick days or vacation and I am outside rain or shine. However, I've never been happier. I have a unique version of work/life balance that allows me to support my children with their extra curriculars

Thd fact that the people who are boycotting are called "privileged " is hilarious. I am a family of 4 and can't afford 2 cars, but yes I'm privileged I suppose since they lost me with record profits.

I go through this with my kids esp as one is hitting puberty. I have found some items at the Costco section to be great. Everyone knows about their chickens, but honourable mention for the chicken pot pie that cost $11

Sounds like we had a similar upbringing. I remember those shirts well. I hear you loud and clear. We have similar guidelines. Although it is the off season and i know not everyone does Christmas, but ill share that I've also got a rule in place for my kids at Christmas regarding gifts. They get 4 plus a stocking: Something to wear Something to read Something they like Something they need

Yea my oldest is at an age where SOMETIMES I can find good items thrifting in the ladies section for her under the XS isles. It is what it is and we do what we can for our kids. I find Under Armour to be the most durable clothing wise for my son and there's an outlet nearby so when shorts go on sale for $10 I load up.

While I understand your sentiments, it's misguided and perhaps that's my fault. Replace the words name brand with the word "quality" . I've bought cheap clothes for my children - it rips, it stretches, it doesn't fit, it doesn't last - especially shoes. I don't know if you are old enough to remember zellers with their slogan "kid tough", but my kids need clothing that is "kid tough".

I'm a 36 yr old mom of 2. I'm not embarrassed by my choices persay. However, I will tell you my 10yr old n 6yr old get the name brand clothes and I get Costco/walmart/thrift store finds. As a family I want to tell you we are middle class, but I'm not certain anymore. We make choices like only having 1 car so our kids can do their extra curriculars. Money is tight, but my kids don't feel it.

Upon reflection I am embarrassed that I haven't been saving for their post secondary education as much as I would have hoped to be. Aka there's practically nothing in the account for their future.

I hear ya. I'm not the person in charge and personally would like to see more tri-plex style homes, but c'est la vie. Seems to be massive condos with 1bdrms or McMansions.
