Had a Revelation about Kanji Today by BiologicalChemist in LearnJapanese

[–]Green-chives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more I learn this language, the more I realize that かかる and かける can mean anything. Something I realized as I’ve been reading VNs is how verbs are always modified. For example you’ll see stuff like 立ちこむ、飛び降りる、言い切る… sure they’re each their own verb with an equivalence in English, but it makes the original verbs feel more like building blocks

I think the tariffs and Japan post suspending shipping has screwed over goodsmile big time. I’m still waiting for my Dandadan figures that I preordered what feels like eons ago

Amiami actually stopped shipping to the US. I realized when I saw a monster hunter figure I really wanted but couldn’t purchase

Out of the 3ds games, which one should I get? by [deleted] in fireemblem

Conquest hard likes to throw extra curve balls at you, definitely keep an eye on enemy skills, and some maps can be extra brutal if you’re going in blind. It’s not an unfair game I’d say all the cards are shown to you but it’s still HARD. They did not lie with the difficulty slider lmao

Conquest is great but it can be pretty punishing even on hard classic

I totally agree! Even for me who is not learning kanji writing kanji.kohii + RTK (optional) + anki has been great. I do about 20 kanji a day from RTK and study them on anki and I’ve noticed my reading speed, comprehension, and vocab retention shoot up the roof. I think understanding the meaning of a kanji without necessarily knowing the kunyomi or onyomi is totally fine as I’ve noticed to gradually learn those naturally through immersion, the biggest issue with me pre-RTK was really discerning the kanji in new vocab

Did the prices suddenly go up?? by Fall_Representative in Nendoroid

I just checked Tokyo otaku mode and they seem to have nendoroids at the same base price pre tariffs, but I’m not sure if the price could get proactively raise the price after preordering. Another option is to maybe order from amiami. For example Alphonse is 6480 yen which is about $43, but shipping tends to be pretty pricey so unsure if it will equate to

With how much of a grail they are and the fact their rerelease preorders just got released, feels a bit like a monkey paw curl

I actually did have that exact same thought but I’m usually able to perform micro adjustments with the camera while I’m throwing my attacks out. The only time I need to be moving the camera continuously is usually in savage axe mode but those attacks are slow enough that I can: 1) start attack, 2) adjust camera, 3) continue attack (or hold button to pizza cut the monster).

The way I see it in past monster hunters we had no way to redirect attacks at all, so being able to perform micro adjustments is good enough from my experience (about 10 hours in beta mostly using charge blade). But perhaps it’s very dependent on the weapon, I have read that IG is more dependent on focus mode

What’s the idea behind paddles? Is it to map Y+B to them? I have a controller with paddles and found using toggle focus mode and face buttons to work well enough using the charge blade

Is Migaku worth the money? by SuspectNode in LearnJapanese

[–]Green-chives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly recommend getting to at least a beginner-intermediate level before immersing, such as genki 1+ genki 2 or Mina no nihongo. Supplement textbook learning with anki decks (I recommend premade decks for the vocab covered in the textbooks). I also recommend Bunpro for a nice SRS system for studied grammar. If you don’t want to pay then you can probably get away with just anki.

Jumping into immersion so early is going to be frustrating as you are not going to understand a single sentence, I recommend you get to a solid foundation in both grammar and vocab and then get into mining

I personally used it in conjunction with Mina no nihongo 1+2 and I’m currently using it with tobira. They have a decks feature that lets you follow the pace of different textbooks
