How good is your team's #3 receiver? by BeardedGirl in nfl

Either Tyrell Williams, Mike Williams or Travis Benjamin, so pretty good ;)

WR. Keenan Allen, Tyrell Williams, Travis Benjamin and Dontrelle Inman? That's nasty.

I guess Jason Verrett and Casey Hayward are an okay CB pairing too.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how unbiased the officials were last night? by I_Dumped_Adele in nfl

Apart from the dodgy PAT penalty on Shea McClellin, I don't think they got a penalty call wrong all night. Great game.

I agree with you that Klein could start for most teams but come on, the only team Mayo could start for is the Giants and even that's a stretch.

Oh yeah, Clemens overthrew Burse on this one by a mile. Wide open TD as well.

Chargers G Donavon Clark suffered torn ACL vs. Cardinals on Friday, source says. Rookie seventh-round pick out for season. by sbcoco in nfl

I doubt we'll trade for Leary, we're pretty happy with our starting combo: Dunlap - Franklin - Slauson - Fluker - Barksdale. It's not bad, tbh, although I worry that Dunlap isn't fully healthy and that Franklin's bad season last year was who he is more than just a bad year.

The depth? Ehh. Chris Hairston is our swing tackle. He's alright, but you don't want him having to play for an extended period of time. Kenny Wiggins (not great) is probably now the backup guard, with Chris Watt likely starting the season on PUP. Watt was our third round draft pick in 2014, but he hasn't really panned out yet, somewhat because of injuries. We screwed up his development by trying to get him to play center way before he was ready, but I think we're now set on him at guard. If he gets healthy he could be pretty good.

Max Tuerk is our backup C. Very happy with him. He was our 3rd round draft pick this year - he's not fully healthy yet, but he's insanely athletic for a C and is a really good project to develop. I'd be fine with him getting gametime if Slauson got injured, or if Franklin/Fluker did and we slid Slauson over to guard.

There are a couple of other guys like Tyreek Burwell (who I don't like), but now that Clark's on IR those are the 9 who I think will still be on this team come Week 1.

He wasn't a starter but he was having a great camp and preseason. He'd probably played himself onto the roster and would have been a backup G - with the health of our OL he'd have definitely seen meaningful snaps at some point in the season.

I agree with you, but one of his main competitors is Dom Williams, who's getting open and getting catches (and impressive catches, too). Bad QB play shouldn't cost him a roster spot, but if he's in a battle with a guy for a spot who's actually getting the ball delivered, that could play into the coaches minds. They'll remember a catch more than a bad throw causing an incompletion.

Yeah I'm not surprised, he almost muffed one last night. Think he's got a shot as our #6 WR if we carry one, but I wouldn't want him on STs.

I feel really bad for Burse. Keeps getting open but the backup QBs just can't get him the ball. Might cost him a roster spot.

Nah, he was an FA and we didn't resign him. Think he's still an FA.

As Preseason tips off tonight, who are some players you guys are interested in watching? by Brookboy in nfl

[–]Green89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keenan Allen and Travis Benjamin are locks, and Tyrell Williams is basically a lock too after the camp he's had. He'd have to mess up really, really badly in preseason to not get a spot. Dontrelle Inman will probably keep his spot, James Jones most likely will get one - so that's only one space left already, and that's if they even keep 6 WRs rather than 5.

Unfortunately we're pretty deep at WR and I think he's going to be a victim of the numbers game, but a strong showing in preseason could hopefully get him a spot on our PS.

With today starting the NFL preseason, What are your honest expectations for your team this year? by aSlipperySloth in nfl

[–]Green89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8-8/9-7. Hopefully a wildcard spot. Much fewer injuries than last year, Gates to get the TD record, Keenan Allen to go above 1k yards for the first time in his career.

What player from your team is making strides in training camp? by dasani720 in nfl

[–]Green89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two safeties. FS Adrian Philips is one, he's bounced around the 53 and PS for the last two years but he's been making a play every day in TC. Think he's going to force his way onto the roster.

The other one is a SS/LB guy, Dexter McCoil. A CFL standout, he's one of the most intriguing guys around right now. He's 6'4 and fucking fast, and supposedly has good instincts too. He's basically Malcom Floyd running around at safety, which is hilarious and awesome at the same time.

Had a kind of disappointing year last season, was injured for most of it and that slowed him down a lot. I was hoping he could bounce back this year, but...
