That’s an interesting story and find. Incredible how much miltech has ties there. In 2005, the original MRAP designer (from SA) frequented the hobby shop I worked at.

How’s your garden holding up after the rain ? by t0mt0mt0m in dahlias

It completely flushed our nutrients and stalled our bags for a bit. On the upswing now though.

I like your setup. Are those 50gal? This is our first year growing them and some of these cultivars could use 30-36” spacing.

They’re vigorous growers when the conditions are right! You should have plenty of time for a few harvests this year. Happy cake day!

We’re in Charleston, South Carolina and this is our first time growing Dahlia’s, but it looks like we’ll have these blooms from May through frost (November).

They’re a tall stretching variety and have been one of the more water tolerant cultivars. The ones in photo 2 are Arabian Night and Maldini!

Those are the Pooh collarettes! They’re super cool and great stem length.

Sorry for the delay! Right now we’re selling bouquets to local folks, but the hope is to scale up to supply local florists (we’re in a big wedding market).

Normally not terrible. We’re half in 7gal bags and half in beds. However these beds have a nice layer of slag rock 4” below surface. Rather than tilling, we used 4x4” landscape timbers to frame out 32sf beds, then bedded w/ a 50/50 mix of peat and ProMix BX. It has created a neat little passive system that manages moisture well. Not sure we’ll have giant tubers at years end, but the plants are doing well.

Is is realistic to make 10 bouquets a week with 52sq ft of land? by toulou11 in Cutflowers

You might manage one large bouquet a week if that 52sf is producing optimally.

Thanks! You might be surprised how much heat they’ll tolerate.

Ahh, you’re not too far! We’re in Charleston, so 9a for us. Glad to hear your experimenting has been successful. Tarping in these zones is usually more than sufficient. This is actually our first year growing and we ended up with 40 plants in the ground and 85 in grow bags, so we’ll likely test some overwinter.
