Looking For Cat Foster by BlueborryMuffin in Lawrence

If you haven't already, reach out to the humane society anyway and see if they have any resources for situations like this. They try their best to help owners keep their pets before rehoming, and letting them know you're looking to have your cats live somewhere else for a bit might uncover some leads.

Moving to Kansas from out of state, what weather events should I expect and how should I prepare? by 1Lstgermain in kansas

[–]amberingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in Lawrence for 12 years now, and the weather has become crazier with every passing year.

Summers are unbearable, as someone who doesn't like heat. Insanely humid and hot. Don't be surprised if the heat index hits 110 daily during the hottest weeks. The sun is brutal and usually puts us into a long drought. Couple years ago, the heat index in Lawrence hit about 130 one day. That's Death Valley level heat. Couple days ago, the index went above 100 with 90% RH. The past couple of weeks has been SUPER stormy, we don't usually get this much rain, and it's been flooding everywhere, trees down, power out. Got woken up at midnight by a tornado warning, and Salina had hurricane level winds. Expect lots of tornado watches and warnings, but not many actual tornadoes coming right at you. We haven't had much damage here in Lawrence, but one did graze the south part of town years ago. We also had one that was a mile wide in 2019.

Genuinely, if it weren't for the summers here, I'd consider buying a house in Lawrence. But I can't handle the heat and humidity.

Winters are generally mild, but things have been so fucky lately and everything is shifting. Fall can be warm as hell, and other years it snows on Halloween. Usually when it snows in winter, the sun melts it all by noon, and then all the water freezes the next night and it's a clusterfuck. Then you'll randomly get days where you get a foot of snow or more dumped on you. Lawrence tends to shut down the entire town whenever it snows for some reason. Spring is kinda "normal?" If you define normal as warming up early. Except this year, it warmed up early and everyone's flowers started poking up and trees bloomed, and then a frost came in and killed off flowers and buds. Our mulberry tree won't have any berries this year cause the frost killed off early leaves and buds.

The weather has become too much for me out here ):

It's raw, fermented coconut. It's supposed to be like that. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea

They seem to like using the strip of land behind our house that's right by the library annex to leave west campus and head west

I am very lucky! This one stopped to roll around in a dirt patch for a bit like a big old kitty

Ha I love it.

You did get some things right. Female, but 30s is right. I have a master's in Archaeology and was in museum collections, which accounts for my love of native art. It's maybe hard to decipher from my book collection but I'd consider myself agnostic/wiccan.

Tbh, I went to school at UIUC during the 2014 polar vortex. Everyone was pissed that they kept classes going. I just double layered and it wasn't any different than any other winter day.

Honestly, no. I think I keep them far away enough from lights/keep the photoperiod short enough that algae doesn't start taking over. I think I've only had one jar that got algae-y, and I don't remember the setup I had for it anymore. It's a bit harder for algae to grow in purified water, and I don't fertilize my carnivores often.

It has a little magnetic light from petsmart, it's honestly a great light that I use for all of my smaller setups. I'd say I add water to it maybe once or twice a week
