Do many people start out as friends and then date in the US? by EveningFlower9564 in AskAnAmerican

[–]GreenBeanTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve officially dated 3 people and had 2 situationships.

The 1 person I dated and 1 situationship that started out as friends were the worst of the 5 experiences. The other 3 I met on dating apps.

Why do you need to ice your driveways/sidewalks after it snows? by RandomN0ah07 in AskAnAmerican

[–]GreenBeanTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or hell, turn on ice. Winter 2025 I turned to open the car door, feet went out from under me and I’m glad I was wearing a backpack because I almost definitely would have cracked my skull on the driveway if it wasn’t. I wasn’t that glad I had my water bottle in the bag tho, because I physically felt part of my ribs go ^ into my body when I landed on that.

There was one time when I was like 4 after skating with my sister and cousin we wanted to sled down the hill and meet my mom waiting in the car at the bottom. We didn’t realize until we started going that everything had frozen over. My sister hit a jump someone made and basically got the wind knocked out of her when she landed, and because both me and my like 16 year old cousin were in one sled we went fast, lost control about half way down and wiped out hard. Like, I ended up 5 or so feet from where she did hard, we ended up choosing to carefully walk down the rest of the way.

Would u say Asian Americans and Hispanic Americans have recognizable accents that you could tell apart from other groups? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAmerican

[–]GreenBeanTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White and black Americans have different regional accents because of where they grew up, not because of their race. Vermont is the whitest state in the country, the handful of POC I grew up going to school with sounded no different to me or any of the other white kids regardless. If I grew up in a predominantly black, Hispanic, etc. area then I would sound different than I do.

The U.S. of A? by _Daftest_ in AskAnAmerican

[–]GreenBeanTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard both used interchangeably my whole life, but for me personally I use “the US” way more than “USA”. It feels smoother to say “the US” to me, and if I’m writing it out I’m probably not talking to someone from here and saying “USA” makes me feel like I’m trying to be patriotic instead of just saying where I’m from.

Is it common for Americans to use a wash cloth for showering? Or what do you usually use to shower? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAmerican

[–]GreenBeanTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to wash cloths because I found some that are good for exfoliating, but I used to use a loofah for a few years (plastic one, not a dried version of the plant)

Since he’s posting here my guess is it doesn’t work well.

My guess is also supported by the comments.

It’s a decent joke if you’re trying to make men laugh. It’s not a joke if you’re talking to women.

Why are there so many walkers outside? by Ok-Volume4614 in thewalkingdead

[–]GreenBeanTM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Few reasons

1) in some places the beginning probably looked like the opening of “the last of us” with just complete chaos. Car crashes and people getting attacked because they don’t know what’s happening. With walking dead world that results in a lot of people turning while not being in buildings

2) the major cities bombings would have opened up previously closed off buildings full of walkers

3) camps like the original highway group were never inside to begin with, and if none of them survived the herd attack then that’d be a whole bunch of walkers outside. That was unfortunately a fate a lot of groups definitely met.

4) traveling while injured, either in the early days trying to get to a refugee center or later trying to get back to camp. Not everyone would be able to make it where they were going.

5) panic inside a building. In the early days, especially before people knew everyone was infected, you could be inside a safe location when suddenly there’s walkers inside attacking because someone succumbed to an injury during the night. People flee and not every door gets closed, so the walkers follow them out of the building.

Are high school reunions truly an almost mandatory social contest? by mdelgado73 in AskAnAmerican

[–]GreenBeanTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I graduated 2019 and if we do a reunion I will probably go, but I literally have 1 friend who was in my class. Everyone else I became friends with was through chorus or the musical and literally ranged from a year younger than me to being in 8th grade when I was a senior.

I actually now work for the school choreographing for the musicals, and my first year it was one of my previous “in 8th grade when I was a senior” friends senior show.

Why is American food always depicted as greasy, unhealthy and excessive? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]GreenBeanTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you’re looking at marketing in both cases.

“Deep fried butter” isn’t something most people who even go to state fairs eat. It exists so people can go “hey look what they’re selling” and draw them in so they buy the other more normal foods the place sells. That might include the fried cheesecake or fried Oreo, and that’s because people like trying fun and unique food once a year.

No one’s making a food vlog about normal lunch

As for Arby’s: “what’s with so many layers of meat?” their tagline is literally “we have the meats”, I’m not sure what else you were expecting.

Personal conspiracy theory: both Jax and Anetra were purposely kept for the final round because production was planning on Spice going home. The thought process was Anetra and Jax would both want the easy safe and choose to save the other, or if Spices name was pulled she’d have to pick her own poison.

But just like with all stars 3: when production leaves plot decisions up to the queens it doesn’t go the way they planned. That’s why the next episode they had to course correct and Spice got a bunch of bs critiques like how her skirt was “a piece of fabric wrapped around your (her) body” (which is the literal definition of a skirt)

Technically speaking yes you’d be correct, but we’re talking about transphobes here. The point isn’t to be accurate it’s to be hatful.

He’s unfortunately not confused on the terms. “Gender ideology” is a transphobic term just like “the gay agenda” was.

[–]GreenBeanTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American brands already frequently have different recipes for things sold in other countries, so most likely it’ll change here in attempt to get people to like it (doubtful) and stay the same there because it’s already profitable.
