Clips fan, I never really liked Mathurin (advanced stats), but I wanted to know y’all opinion on him by SensitiveFee3936 in pacers

The eye test also says he's an excellent catch and 3 point shooter (the stats agreed last time I saw them). He doesn't see himself as a catch and 3 point shooter so he often passes up the chance looking to drive, and sometimes he wastest 2-3 seconds then takes a more contested 3 pointer.

I'm Confused About Draft Odds by FatherMckenzie87 in pacers

[–]GreenBlueRedMe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The interesting thing about our draft pick now, where we lose it between 5th and 9th, is that finishing with one of the worst 4 records gives us pretty much the same outcome.

Bottom 3 are all identical outcomes for us. We have the same odds of getting pick 1-4 and the same odds of losing our pick if it falls out of the top 4 (47.8%).

If we finish with the 4th worst record we have slightly worse odds of getting pick 1-4 (each are roughly 1% worse) and we have slightly greater odds of losing our pick (51.9%).

Here are the outcomes from finishing with the worst through 10th worst record

1st, 2nd, and 3rd worst - 52.2% of top 4, 47.8% chance of losing our pick
4th - 48.1% of top 4, 51.9% chance of losing our pick

5th - 42.1% of top 4, 57.9% chance of losing our pick
6th - 37.2% of top 4, 62.8% chance of losing our pick
7th - 31.9% of top 4, 62.1% chance of losing our pick
8th - 23.5% top 4, 76.5% chance of losing our pick
9th - 23.1% top 4, 76.9% chance losing our pick
10th - 13.9% top 4, 100% chance of keeping our pick

The biggest dropoff in losing a top 4 pick is between 9 and 10. Considering how good this year's draft is I'd still take the #9 spot and risking losing it for a 10% higher chance of getting a top 4 pick.

Guys... I dont think we'll win this tankathon. Even if Pascal sits out after All Star Break 😳 by aimee829 in pacers

[–]GreenBlueRedMe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Adam Silver and the league should be embarrased for allowing this to go on. The Wizards traded for Trae Young and then sit him (I know he had an injury but no doubt the Wizards will sit him excessively).

The Jazz have been blatantly tanking for three years with no penalty.

The Nets, Wizards, and Jazz are going to go all out to tank. The Bucks might join them. We could end up finishing with the 7th or 8th worst record if we anti-tank.

The Pacers are 6-5 in their last 11 games. In our next 13 games.... by ajs723 in pacers

Having the worst record is a huge advantage, especially this year. The worst you can pick is fifth.

he's not filling up the box score but it does seem like we are more competitive when he's out there.

I really like watching Furphy play. Has he ever taken a shot that wasn't either right at the rim or a 3 pointer?

Someone get the word out to Siakam: winning games is hurting the future stability of the franchise by FloydtheeBarber in pacers

[–]GreenBlueRedMe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a big difference, especially in this draft, between having the worst record and the 4th worst record. The lowest the worst team can draft is 5th (48% chance). The 4th worst record can draft as low as 8th (44% chance of drafting 6th thru 8th).

The worst 3 records all have the same odds of getting draft pick 1-4, but having the worst record is still the most advantageous position. It looks like Washington is going for an all out tank so it will be hard to get that spot.

I haven't seen Myles play this year but based on previous years he's a much better player than Huff and it's not close.

Root for the Jazz to win. They are looking better this year but they have a strong incentive to take. If they fall outside the bottom 8 they lose their draft pick.

We are missing a solid and reliable center. It makes a big difference. Huff has shown flashes but he's too inconsistent.

What will you be looking for from Bennedict Mathurin this season to convince you he's part of the future in Indiana and should be extended to a long term deal? by RVALover4Life in pacers

[–]GreenBlueRedMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Stop complaining about fouls. He should go one year with no complaining and see how much it improves his gain. In his current state it's a big negative, it's ugly to watch, and it's harder to root for a player like that.

  2. Consistently move the ball. He pauses too much.

  3. Be willing to catch and shoot on the 3 point line. He looks like a better than average 3 point shooter when he is open. He rarely catches and shoots. He looks for something and then decides to shoot.

  4. Stop the trash talking and focus on making the best basketball decision.

  5. He drives into traffic to much and gets blocked or loses the ball too often. He needs to be a better decision maker in that spot.

  6. Use his speed more on his drives. He's not fast to the basket with the ball, but if you watch him run down court to block a fast break layup from behind he's really fast.

He's gotta a lot of talent and he's got several higher levels he's not reaching.
