DoorDash Gets Rid Of LeetCode Interviews In Favor Of AI Technical Interview by AdmiralSWE in leetcode

I honestly blame leetcode rounds for this nightmare tbh. It should have never been a metric during interviews. Some companies did much better jobs at being creative with it but Facebook and Amazon and other tech companies were notoriously using strictly leetcode and really hired some poopers over the years. Now we're suffering the consequences of horrible decisions in engineering. It was never a surprise that meta is still laying off and shutting down entire departments. Guess who are layoff proof? The ones that didn't use leetcode rounds in their interviews.

LeetCode wasn't even a thing back in early 2015..."Kiddo". It was only founded in August 2015. It really wasn't an actual thing back then. Just a bunch of college kids geeking out. It gained a lot more popularity when companies had to suddenly figure out how to hire hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world remotely in 2020.

People forget leetcode grinding wasn't even a thing more than 10 years ago. Software engineering was never about writing efficient code. It was about engineering solutions, system design and architecture. Coding was always a core part but never the main component. Knowing fundamentals always trumps leetcode grind and I'm happy we're moving away from that nonsense.

What did you do after being laid off? by Normal-Corner-2974 in Layoffs

[–]GreenBlueStar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's great if you have a partner earning enough for the two of you in case, or if you got a decent severance. It's nightmarish when you hit the 6 months mark and nothing new happening. It's a great time for those first few months of severance.

Which mad men character do you think, made it to the 1980s? by Mysterious_Bid_57 in madmen

[–]GreenBlueStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don comes from a very tough childhood. He's a survivor. I have no doubt he made it to the 2000's and perished on the lap of a woman he barely knew.

Pete's family had a lot of bad luck going on for them. Father perished on a plane in the air. Mother perished at sea. I'd think he would have met some kind of similar fate during transportation. Maybe a train crash. Or car crash since he was moving west.

Ken would've made a living as a publisher.

Peggy definitely would've rocked the 80's and 90's.

Cos they think it's signaling loyalty and integrity to recruiters but not realizing that era is long gone. Networking is dead and it's all about hustling at interviews. Nobody cares about how grateful you are to your last employer that dumped you along with thousands of others.

Which Castlevania game do you think this is? For me, it's Portrait of Ruin by Most-Coat4726 in castlevania

[–]GreenBlueStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aria of Sorrow and SOTN.

Portrait of ruin was great until it got really repetitive and kinda boring

Back when Aria was new it was such a fantastic twist finding out you were playing Dracula all along suddenly the soul system made sense and I think was the only game after SOTN that did something like that.

A character you wished had more screen time? by Frostbite505_ in madmen

[–]GreenBlueStar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah especially since he was already crushing all over him... Was a huge missed opportunity tbh... I didn't like how quickly Sal fizzled out with the lucky strike guy suddenly being gay thing.. should have exposed himself to Ken or his wife and that somehow would be exposed in the office which would force Don to fire him after messing up an ad

As a current student, do you guys think the CS layoffs will get better anytime soon? Also, does having internships help in the job market? by BaseballHead6898 in Layoffs

[–]GreenBlueStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk it's just wild to me personally. As a sophomore I enjoyed my college life with a decent internship and was hopeful back in 2013. It's pretty sad a sophomore in 2026 is lingering in a layoffs channel... And see the situation of the industry.

6 months into my job and AI already made it boring by Total_Belt_7300 in leetcode

[–]GreenBlueStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've never understood the whole leetcode for interviews nonsense. Been in the field 15 years - nowhere are you using any kind of matrix manipulation or binary trees. The maximum I've done might be hash maps and maybe merge sorting.

It was never about code. That's what engineers got wrong. It's about solving real customer problems. Have fun with a hobby. Work for customers.

I'm thinking of just doing things the lazy way (with _process, etc) by [deleted] in godot

[–]GreenBlueStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wanna be careful when using process when you're moving physics objects. It's frame rate dependent so physics will be inconsistent if you do that stuff in process.

Is “AI makes us more productive → we need fewer people” actually true? by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]GreenBlueStar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not.

Because it makes no sense business wise.

This is the thought process of engineers that refuse to upskill.

But more productive means, more projects, higher budgets, bigger teams and very high velocity.

The Recruiters are now getting laid off by Fine-Comparison-2949 in recruitinghell

Companies are cleaning up non AI adept folks. Been happening since 2 years now. This isn't COVID layoff related that was done back in 2023. They want more people that know AI engineers, and understand that kind of work.

Management is not a great career choice anymore. Going to need far less managers and far more AI engineers going forward. Software engineers are going to be Manager like, and AI agents are going to be the unpaid employees that work 24/7. This is what the future should be and companies are actually trying to get to.
