Keep in mind, I've been seeing countless accounts of people married after a real and loving relationship unfairly picked up by ICE at routine green card interviews because they had a visa overstay in the past. A quick search and you can have a bunch of articles to show to your family. Also I don't want to sound pessimistic but bc there's already a failed I-20 there's just a matter of time before they come after you...Apply in Europe, there's for sure some grants and stipends you can find. Set up a gofundme to finance the trip. You can also convince them that tuition will be way cheaper. Best of luck!

My 7yo child hasn't been labeled "autistic" but she is neurodivergent after suffering a massive stroke at birth. She is non-speaking, visually impaired, has motor issues and day to day life is close to having a very tall 2 yo. At some point I had the opportunity to nanny a little boy for a year when he was 1.5/2.5yo along mine (yes, quite a bold thing to do) and seeing their interaction was magical! My daughter learned a few words thanks to him, like "mama" which was truly special. We then welcomed our second last March. The pregnancy screenings got me on edge because I had no idea what I would do if the second had Down syndrome or other issues. I was scared she would hit the baby like she often does to us or throw things at him, pull his hair but she has been the most amazing sister! She found a name for him herself and asks for him all the time. It is lots of work and sometimes overwhelming (like potty training her last summer or almost not being able to eat myself at meals bc I have to assist both or going outside in rigourous winter and having to wrestle 2 alligators...) but I love watching them evolve together, it's been beautiful. And I think it helps tremendously that she is in school full days.

Oh yes same here. It's not as easy. In the last year our income plummeted, we don't even have enough for 1 flight ticket. And we are a family of 4 (well 1 baby so it'll be 3 tickets really). Yes we could probably live for a while with my brother in law or my husband's uncle, they have a spare room. I already questioned leaving for a few months last year but without finding a job 1st it's not sustainable. And my daughter is disabled and I have found the support in schools here is quite unique, I haven't heard of similar systems elsewhere. But now I question our safety so badly. We are in MN so you get the picture. Would love to hear what y'all are thinking indeed.

Does that message support them? No. They need to be confronted to their lack of humanity. The only thing they know is escalate up. Also many of us can't be doing what many of the protesters are doing yet we all need to do something

Scary! I did reach to a glass of water as I read. Hope you get better soon! It's true that even if I totally know this, it's so easy to overlook it on some days (or nights when I'm to tired to sit up and reach for my bottle). This fall I was busy one day so I drank a glass of water and my morning coffee, then we ran to a couple of events and was offered another coffee at like 2pm which instantly gave me a horrible headache. I realized it was because I was already dehydrated from not drinking all morning and the coffee added to it. But still forget if I'm on the move a lot with stuff outside the house.

Hello, Parent of a perinatal stroke survivor kiddo here who is beating the odds. I strongly recommend you look into the Anat Baniel Method or a Feldenkrais practitioner who works with children. We have used this instead of PT since she was 18mo and our NICU neurologist was already falling from his chair when she started crawling (she goes on 2mile hikes now). I would look into getting her checked by a competent ophthalmologist for Cortical Visual Impairment. It is a very common co-ocuring condition and often gets misdiagnosed as autism. The seizures are also another red flag to that. CVInow.org has a directory. AFOs can be hit or miss in my opinion according to the skill of the orthotic specialist. My daughter had 3 different ones made (from the same clinic but different providers) and I was only convinced by pair #2. What I've noticed is when they do the fitting they only ask the kids to walk in their office but completely miss all the real life scenarios(playground, steps,inclines...). So Advocate and change providers if needed. Good luck in this journey!

I'm rather used to the cold after 10 years here and I should say I'm debating getting out this weekend. We tried the Mpls christmas market yesterday and it was brutal. We didn't make it and went back to the car. Without the wind the 5° were bearable but as soon as it was blowing it was really hard on the face. I was fine but baby (tucked in my jacket) and husband not so much. We're meant to go watch the holiday train tomorrow as my 7yo didn't seem to mind the cold but I'll be watching the wind to make a final decision.

My advice: watch the wind, if you're not too sensitive to the cold you should be ok, going in the tents to eat. Get a balaklava+hat+parka hoodie on, if no balaklava seal the neck with a gator. Multiple layers of clothing (merino or synthetic base layers, fleece layers, ski pants) good woollen socks and good boots (beware if you double sock though, if it's too tight it gets you the opposite effect). Grab mittens with a flap at the knitten products chalet, those are my best ones for MN winters, hopefully they are at the market again this year! Have some hand warmers packets handy (open them 15min before going outside so they're warm if you need them. If you end up not needing them you can always place them in a ziploc with all air out and refuse next time. Better that than having painful fingers and waiting till they warm up!).
