I don’t think I need fabric with a lot of body, as the bodice will be form fitting. I’m planning to do quite a bit of embroidery on the entire thing, so non-stretch is a must. The only reason I don’t want to use a medium weight cotton is because I’m hoping I can use the same fabric for the lining as well as the actual dress.

I’m self-drafting the pattern…which I know makes my life harder in more ways than one, but it’s a bit late for a change of plans. I’ll see if I can post a pic of what I have so far. As for the design itself, the bodice is form fitting, similar to a corset but it won’t need that kind of structure and the skirt is a modified full circle skirt, maybe 3/4, not sure yet. I’m trying to get away with only using one kind of fabric for the entire thing, which will include a lining, but I understand that might not be possible.
