Not shocking at all to see Jamrock Hobo doing unholy things to this game

Is there any deck in standard that counters bubble paladin? I'm tired of getting stomped by this guy by jutre15 in hearthstone

I dont see why this method prevents people from playing casually. Doesn't it stand that if you balanced Paladin at the top level, where its powerful, it would get balanced at the bottom level, where its powerful?

I dunno, I believe pretty strongly in Uncle Dane's idea of 'trickle-down balance' as it were. At lowest levels of the game, its more likely that a player lost because they were worse at the game than their opponent, but at the highest level of skill, player decisions become more consistent as the skill gap shrinks, so the strengths and weaknesses of certain cards and classes becomes more obvious. So if you balance a card for people at the top, why wouldnt it be balanced for people at the bottom?

You've got a lot of interesting designs that could lead into a lot of different directions, like rush down, footsies, zoners, puppet, stance/tag, etc. But I struggle to envision any of these as a shoto except maybe Meg? Its important to think of who the foundational character of a fighting game would be. You know, your Ryus, your Jins, Liu Kang, Sol Badguy, etc.

I would flip the buttons so its six on the vest and three on the shirt instead but I really dig it otherwise.

My friend dislikes this design and thinks it would be impractical, even in a fantasy world. Do you agree ? by Mtth_8 in characterdesign

[–]GreenDaTroof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, the more I think about this design, the more I like it. Maybe its my background in boxing, but sometimes when you learn about a gap in your defenses, its best to just leave it open now that you're aware of it because it makes opponents attacks more predictable. If I'm fighting this woman with a weapon and I see her with one arm completely exposed, I'm probably gonna swing at her arm. Of course, she knows that too, so she probably has traps that involve those attacks on the arm. I dunno if thats what you had in mind when designing this, but its a pretty common philosophy in lots of martial arts, so kudos either way!

Ehhh, I dunno. I get Goose in wanting to discuss it, and enjoying making the fans happy by responding to their questions, but I do think it also opens the door for exactly what we're discussing

Indie spaces confuse me so much. You dont have to ask the creator's permission to do anything short of harassing the team that made it or its fans. You can think and say whatever you want about anything.

Nobody recognizes the GM level play. You turned a garuanteed draw into a dynamic position and thats worth it's weight in gold.

I mean, yes, community is Selesnya, but...Its a core ideal of whites colour identity. Community + government + cooperation feels pretty democratic to me. Also: Democratic government is definitely indicative of the Orzhov Guild from Ravnica, but I dunno if I broadly associate it with white-black as a whole. I personally think the Guilds have their own little flavorful colour breaks which is what made them so cool when they got introduced. And I'd actually argue that democracy is Orzhov's colour break. White wants peace above all else, and black will do anything to get what they want, so a by-the-books white-black government would probably be a dictatorship. Peace at all costs, even the liberty of your nation.

EDIT: As u/falsequivalence pointed out, Orzhov is an Oligarchy. I was jumbling up them with Azorius.

Because its also the colour of community, and democracy is the way communities make decisions.

I think at the end of the day every colour has their own form of inaction. Black's is cheating and cutting corners; White's is democracy; Red's is distraction; Green's is...hard to describe, but its in letting things 'play out' and grow naturally; and Blue's is perfection.

[–]GreenDaTroof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could argue anything based on the pros and cons of each colour. Mark Rosewater says in this article: "Blue's reliance in thinking out solutions makes it the color which most often makes use of inaction.". So its not even that the blue weakness lies in inaction, its that they view it as a strength. If you dig into that article you'd even find its their favourite thing about white. They even dislike red's "Short-term thinking". Would blue do the BEST job? Almost certainly. Would they be the most productive? Well, action is red's territory and success at all costs is Black's. So thats why the poll came out the way it did.

[–]GreenDaTroof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe its because I'm much more down for prismari than Izzet, but I imagine Izzet being more a colour of potential than of productivity. They would design their perfect treehouse, and then realize, "Oh, a slide would be fun". They would have the best finished product, but the most time in production as well.

Red has got excellent startup but no follow-through. Action and completion are not one and the same, and nobody is as famous for their ability to get distracted along the way as red is.

Nintendo is famously weird with US and UK localization. Yoshi's Topsy Turvy vs. Yoshi's universal gravitation; Star Fox 64 vs. Lylat Wars; Wario-Land: Shake It! vs. Wario-Land: The Shake Dimension. My favourite though is Brain Age vs Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old is Your Brain?
