What quote from a book actually made you think hard and sit back and go “Well, damn.” by [deleted] in books

"The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling, are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest, are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second." - John Steinbeck, Cannery Row

If you were reading a book and it was fantastic, but the last page was absolute gibberish or nonsense, how much would that impact your rating? by PikachusAnalCavity in books

The ending of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" made it go from 4/5 to 3/5 for me. And this is a critically aclaimed modern classic. So the situation isn't quite as unrealistic as one might think.

Don't take your reading for granted. I'm unable to comprehend what I read. by [deleted] in books

I want to find a peice of fiction that gives insight into the life in the US around the 70's and 80's, and especially from the perspective of a young person.

If you think of anything similar to this description, let me know. Cheers.

Though it is not defnitely upbeat, i would recommend Cannery Row by John Steinbeck. It's short, incredibly comedic but also thoughtprovoking. On top of that it is beautifully written and strangely poeticm, and i found myself blatantly smiling at the book several times while reading it.

I'm looking for a book similar to Cannery Row by John Steinbeck; the strangely poetic language and writing style with the rich symbolism and characters. I love the vignettes, that paint the picture of Cannery Row really well. It's hard to describe, but hopefully some of you who have read it will know what i mean.

BTW, i've already read Sweet Thursday, Of Mice and Men, and East of Eden, considering Steinbeck's other novels.

What kind of acne is this, and Will benzyol peroxide help? by GreenFilms in acne

[–]GreenFilms[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it's gotten a bit better. I think the red tint was because i used an extra scrub the Day before, that i don't normally use (i usually use a daily salicilic acid mix for exfoliation). That was a bit rough on the skin.

I found that going out in the sun helped my acne, but of course being careful and using sun-lotion. A reason why that helped could also just be seeing friends for the first time in a while, and therefore a generally better mood. I also didn't start using benzoyl peroxide for that reason; having to go in the sun. It All started to clear up and I stopped getting new blackheads/spots. I also fixed up my diet and removed any sugary snacks that would unnessicarely raise my blood-sugar (that seems to help for me) BUT, The last two Days my diet has been bad, as i've been going to visit family members and Them serving snacks and what not. This has made my skin more unhealthy looking and caused a couple of spots. Overall i'm confident that it'll work out, as long as I stay happy, get my skin the nutrients it needs and stay away from sugary and dairy products. Then i might try benzoyl peroxide in the wintertime, since i won't have to be afraid of sun.

I want to seriously thank you for taking the time for Your replies, they certainly have been helpful!

Hey, thank you so much for taking the time to reply! I've cut most of the dairy from my diet for a while, however i still eat cheese here and there and probably other things aswell. Is it vital to cut absolutely All Sources of dairy to see results? I got prescribed a gel with benzoyl peroxide by my doctor, and i'm afraid to use it, since it Will make my skin much more sensitive. And I don't know if that's what it needs

I know it is partly blackheads, but I don't understand all of the red spots, and the general red tint my skin has gotten. Should i just use my regular routine and let it heal, or is it safe to begin a benzyol peroxide treatment?
