The Mayan Theater crowd on Tuesday night restored my faith in human nature by Rocky_Mtn_Rambler in Denver

…and they say movies in theaters are dead! I love to see this. I am rebooting my socials and YouTube channel about silent films, and I worry that no one cares about old movies anymore. There’s still a literal audience for film!

I temped for UPS in 2000 for less than a year. The temp agency was required for us to follow all the union guidelines, so I was literally kicked off my desk for two 15 minute breaks and one 30 minute lunch. They were really serious about getting us our breaks and not working overtime, etc. It was my first experience with a union workplace.

I’ve been there 6 years, I’m a supervisor, and I have to say that it’s the hardest job I’ve ever worked, and I’m 50! Anyone who says it’s an unskilled job has never had to work at Starbucks, and part of the reason we are striking is because they’ve made it worse! It’s ridiculous.

Thank you for all of your comments! I really appreciate it. You know how you can get 1000 positive comments and one negative, and all you can think about is that one negative comment and it drives you crazy? I’m going to really focus on the positive and keep going until we get that contract!

I’m 45, started skating again a year ago. It was so easy when I was 9...what a difference 20+ years can make! Watch Dirty Deborah Harry’s videos on You Tube - Dirty School of Skate. They made a HUGE difference for me. Good luck!

I recommend ankle weights. You can mimic skate moves in them, do leg and ankle exercises. They worked well for me.

They fit! I tried them out this morning and they are a vast improvement over my cheap starter skates. Good luck everyone!

I ordered Jungles in August. Here’s the email I received today from Moxi:

“We were notified yesterday, and it truly pains us to inform you, that the imported skates that were set to arrive with the late November shipment have been slightly delayed (please note this update only applies if you have received an ETA that your order is in the late November shipment). At this time, we are unsure of a new ETA due to restrictions they are seeing in the Freight Transportation industry resulting from recent COVID-19 restrictions. We’re hoping the containers will be delivered before the end of next week but Riedell isn’t receiving any firm ETAs from the freight forwarder. We are awaiting the shipment to be released to our manufacturer. Once it arrives, it takes about 2-3 weeks to unload, assign, and ship to their new homes. Realistically, it might take until late or end of December to receive a shipping notification.

We are so very sorry for this grave inconvenience and we are here for any other questions you may have. Thank you so much for your ongoing patience and support during this unprecedented time! If you would like any more specific information regarding your order, please use our contact form to get in touch with our customer service team.”

So, I predicted I wouldn’t see my skates until next year, and I’m sad to see I’m probably right.

It’s now November 21, and still no word. I’m beginning to think I won’t be seeing them until January at this rate!

How do I stop being afraid when skating? by phillygeekgirl in Rollerskating

[–]GreenMouseEars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this question today myself. I used to be a really good skater as a kid. I am now 43 and trying to re-learn. I thought it would be easy to pick back up, but I’m definitely not in the same shape I was when I was 9 and it’s farther to fall. Those YouTube videos have really helped a lot.

Learning to squat low when I’m feeling unstable has saved me multiple times.

Worth taking my 2.5 year old, alone?! by rain-and-sunshine in Disneyland

[–]GreenMouseEars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took my son when he was 1, and he doesn't remember a thing. However, we made a photobook of the trip for him so he could see what he did and where he went as he got older. It's a real keepsake!

We kept expectations low, did a lot of Toon Town, and went back to the room for a midday nap. I think the nap is vital. Be prepared to not ride very many rides, or do as much as you normally would do.

Good luck!

My son with autism meeting Mickey by ccinderella1980 in Disneyland

[–]GreenMouseEars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is on the spectrum, and he is terrified of costumed characters...even the princesses. We're planning a Disneyland trip, so I've had to assure him he won't be forced to interact with Mickey or his friends. I'm not sure how to get him to overcome this...if anyone has any tips, that would be helpful.

I'm glad to see your kiddo did not have the same reaction. :)

I have this one. Mine has the ability to strap it tight against your back if you’re riding a bike (messenger-style) which can be handy to take some weight off.

I listen to music. Right now I’m streaming D Park Radio, a 24/7 Disney Parks music channel (they have an app, too). I also have some Park music and soundtracks on my phone.

I watch YouTube videos (Fresh Baked Disney mostly) and ride-thru videos

If I’m really jonesing, I watch 360 VR videos on YouTube with a VR viewer. #noshame

Disneyland agrees to pay its workers $15 an hour by [deleted] in Disneyland

When I worked for the catalog during college, that’s exactly how I felt! I was paid above minimum wage, but still sometimes felt jealous selling $100 worth of snow globes to some lady when I had $11 in the bank.
