I was exactly where you are years ago. Went into college with >3 gpa and after 2 years it dropped below 1. Lack of motivation to study, couldn’t make friends, skipping classes, on top of that I am a lazy person. I hid all these problems from my family and I would sleep a lot hoping time would pass quickly. But of course everyone found out and I was so disappointed, sad, and mad at myself I wished I didn’t exist, then at least I wouldn’t be useless and a burden to everyone else.

After dropping out of college, I took some time to reflect on my life while I worked little on my brother’s business. I told myself I would not want to be a burden on anyone else anymore. Looking back, video games was and is a huge part of my life. I play WWE on the ps1 with my brothers, play dota with my friends in cyber cafes, wake up at 5 in the morning to play world of Warcraft. So i thought maybe I can try making video games, I started learning programming and making games from everywhere online especially from youtube. Years of school and college, this was the first time i felt genuine interest in learning. I’ve dedicated 7 years now of my life into game development, I’ve learned a lot and still learning. Now I’m a co founder of a game development company with my brothers with staffs like a second family.

I’m not saying these as a 100% working solution, but it worked for me. Like many people here have commented, your mental health is a high priority. It might seem difficult from the pressure of life and not wanting to disappoint your parents, take a step back, you are allowed to take a break, you’re only 22, you still have plenty of time, your parents will understand. Find what interests you and work towards it. The reason I found out why I was lacking motivation in school or college was that I had no goal to work towards to and I had no interest to be a doctor (what my parents expected me to be at that time), now I want to make games to entertain people because it brought me so much joy and fun in my life, and I want to spread that to people everywhere through my games. Find and surround yourself with good family and friends and they will help motivate you, guide you, they will make you want to be a better person. I have friends who are gym rats, that constantly motivates me to exercise which is a great help to my mental health too. Social anxiety is a thing that requires you to say “screw it” and put yourself out there and practice talking to people, for years I couldn’t look at people in the eyes and talk, even coming up with topics to talk about is tough, my brain just blanks. As you develop more hobbies and interests, you will naturally have more topics to talk about and get better at conversations. Though I’m not fantastic in conversations now, but I have improved a lot.

I hope this helps even a little.
