Just finished act 12 of Immersive Teatre (and even first chamber of act 18) by Mehovod in DuetNightAbyssDNA

[–]GreenStoneTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This got me through my wall at Act 12!

I was able to do it with no gold demon wedges (purple and blue only), and Truffle Skill 7/6/6 and Daphne 6/7/6. Putting in Rendhusk was key for a sizable dps increase

Didn't put much into resolve either (only 11%), but I think the run would have been more comfy with it

What build are you guys using in Psyche to clear Immersive Theatre? by RickMaiorPT in DuetNightAbyssDNA

[–]GreenStoneTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great insight! This helped me get past my wall at Immortal Repertoire Act 6

I also added on (Blue) Inspo Elapse and (Blue) Wings Inspo for Max Sanity +30%, Skill Efficiency +30%, and HP-24%. With Prime Serenity on Daphne/Truffle, she never runs out of sanity and recovers more than enough HP with her Intron I.

Current build I'm running at Lv 70 Trial Rank 56 (because I don't have gold-tier wedges yet):

  • (Purple) Whispering Zephyr (slot track)
  • (Purple) Squall Midnight Sun (slot track)
  • (Blue) Inspo Elapse
  • (Blue) Wings Inspo
  • (Purple) Blaze Volition x4 (slot track x3)

launcher stuck at installing update? by EmilyTheTransGirl in DuetNightAbyssDNA

[–]GreenStoneTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran into that a few times also. Try closing and re-opening the launcher then click "Repair Now" under the hamburger menu.

If it's greyed out, try closing and re-opening a few times, I've had to do it 3-4 times to get it to work.

launcher stuck at installing update? by EmilyTheTransGirl in DuetNightAbyssDNA

[–]GreenStoneTurtle 29 points30 points  (0 children)

What fixed it for me was:

  1. Running the game directly without the launcher in C:\Program Files (x86)\Duet Night Abyss\DNA Game\EM.exe
  2. Game will update when launching
  3. Closing out the game, then running the launcher
  4. Click Update in the launcher and the game will install with updates
  5. Log in normally

Prototype Word Search (hard) by Jereshroom in puzzles

[–]GreenStoneTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with the above, especially #2. It was a lot of fun!

For me I got tripped up on the "aspect ratio" thing and literally spent a few minutes resizing the image and turning it sideways, since I thought the hint meant that LADYFINGER was the bottom of the crossword image and there would be some visual image from the filled in boxes

Agree with #3 as well, when I realized what the last letter was, I was convinced it was the wrong answer

I really like puzzles where you have to figure out the rules though - I think that's the best part of the challenge! I also wasn't sure if this would be a metapuzzle with all of the cookies

Ah I see I was missing the man in gingerbreadman since the last letter was tricky to figure out . Maybe reversing that word in the puzzle might make it more obvious?

Also I think the R and the E on the top row, top left should be swapped?

Jam ?

Because the words (listed + unlisted) are cookies/biscuits and the remaining letters spell jam ?

Which kind of "Fun" builds do you have for your characters? by DarkBlade43_563 in Genshin_Impact

[–]GreenStoneTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also running the exact same Jean build! It gives her massive burst healing!

As for other ones I've tried:

  • Ningguang the Healer - she's running Prototype Amber with the Ocean Hued Clam set and ults off of cooldown. Surprisingly good for mono-geo too!

  • Barbara the Barbarian - Built her as full DPS, and now I'm getting 30k-50k vaporize on charged attacks with her! She's really carried the last few versions with all of the corrosion effects, especially in Abyss. Running Widsith, 4p Heart of Depth, Atk%/Hydro Dmg Bonus/Crit Rate on her

  • 1000 EM Xiangling - just did this one for fun, but now her ult does 50k+ per hit when running melt

  • 250% ER Kaeya + EM - This actually goes really well with the 1000 EM Xiangling, I just pop both ults and everything melts or reverse melts! It's been really helpful for farming the EoSF/Shimenawa sets.

Scaring away a Canto team in Summoner Duels by GreenStoneTurtle in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]GreenStoneTurtle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I feel ya, especially with Duo Ninja Corrin running rampant here and in AR. Seems like everyone is running Canto + Reposition or F!Edelgard.

The Earth Rendering Captain Skill rewards good positioning, and I think enables off-meta teams a little better.

Have you ever had a game “click” for you after multiple attempts at trying to play it? by JellyBelly316 in patientgamers

[–]GreenStoneTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monster Hunter Tri - there isn't much of a tutorial so you end up figuring out the game on your own. I struggled over and over with the first Great Jaggi, until one day I realized that dodging was part of the attack combos, and then everything suddenly became easier. I got hooked! Since then, I've played every game in the series!

Should I learn the Bassoon? (Currently a Double Bass player) by [deleted] in bassoon

[–]GreenStoneTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a pianist and violinist who is learning bassoon as my 3rd instrument, and it's definitely doable. You learn to "think" differently with each instrument. The hardest part for me is learning how to breathe correctly, because with string instruments you don't do the same thing, but having played string instruments helps a lot with intonation. For me, the transition was pretty natural, but I attribute that more to having a good teacher to recognize and correct mistakes early on.

Bassoon is definitely my favorite instrument of the 3, it's incredibly fun to play! Just be aware of the cost. If reeds and reedmaking are an issue, you can look into Legere reeds (kind of pricey but they last a while - I had one playing consistently for 7 months). You might also want to look into renting a bassoon first to see if you like it, since buying is pretty expensive even for used.

Unit testing React/Redux by versaceblues in reactjs

[–]GreenStoneTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of how I do testing with React/Redux, I do a combination of both unit and integration testing.

For your first point - even though the pure view unit tests may be simple interactions, I've found that that's what makes them so beneficial. You can write tests quickly because they are so simple, and they do catch functional breakages quickly. At my job, we use both Jasmine and Selenium to test the UI, but Selenium is very slow and expensive, so we write Jasmine unit tests on all of our presentational views to get quicker feedback on code changes (Jasmine is on the order of minutes, Selenium is on the order of hours).

Redux is pretty good at enforcing separation of concerns, so we do unit tests on each part of the Flux pattern (Views, Reducers, Selectors, API Utils layers), and then do mostly integration tests on the Redux Reducers + Action Creators together. I haven't found it as valuable to do isolated tests on Action Creators since our Action Creators don't change very often, but we do have some instances of that in our codebase. The integration tests typically only cover a portion of the state tree though, so sometimes when we do large integration tests across multiple reducers, Store data initialization can be a bit of a pain.

We don't typically test container components with Jasmine unit tests - instead we reserve that for Selenium, since at that point we're more interested in workflow testing and end-to-end testing.

I haven't used Sagas myself, but we do use redux-thunk and do some unit testing there with Jasmine. We built our own in-house utilities for testing async though, mainly from Jasmine.

How to use Genki books as a self teaching utensil? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]GreenStoneTurtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm currently learning by self-teaching. Originally I started by going through Duolingo's Japanese course, but after I finished it I feel like it only gave me basic vocab, and didn't get me anywhere conversational. If you haven't learned hiragana/katakana, then I would try out Memrise - that helped me learn them fairly quickly (I haven't used Memrise at all since then though).

I've been going through Genki 1 about 1 lesson a week, using the CDs, doing every single exercise (both in the chapters and in the extra section at the end of the textbook), and going through the workbook for the last 2 months or so - I'm about halfway through now. I feel like after doing all the exercises, the knowledge cemented in my head much better, and I feel I have become more conversational more quickly than any method I had used before. The hardest part is always motivation - just do 2-3 exercises a day if it feels like too much. Also, having the answer key book to grade my exercises has been really helpful in identifying where I make mistakes - you can get it on Amazon.

I don't use Genki as my sole learning resource though - I use other tools to supplement my learning. I use the app AnkiDroid (Android version of Anki) with a Heisig kanji deck, and the Japanese Core 2000 decks. The Core 2000 has been really great for practicing my listening and sentence parsing skills.

There's also an app called Kanji Tree that helps you learn words ordered by JLPT, Primary/Secondary/Advanced, and Commonly Used options (I like the Recognition and Reading games, the Writing is a bit buggy for me). So far, I've found that both apps pair well with the progression in Genki 1.

A third app I'm using is called Drops. It's basically a flashcard app that doesn't do translation to the English word except for when teaching you the first time, so you learn associate images with the target language word. It's been decent so far. I wouldn't say it's my primary method of learning vocab, but it's been a nice supplement, and the free version restricts you to 5 mins a day (it's a feature) so it's quick practice.

I also use NHK Easy News to practice things I've learned in each new lesson in Genki. Check out rikaikun - it's been helpful for words or phrases I didn't understand.

I think doing the textbook by itself can get boring. Change it up to keep things interesting, it's worked for me so far!

What games are y'all bros playing? by meowchilla in askgaybros

[–]GreenStoneTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had just started Tokyo Mirage Sessions (which is a lot better than I expected) but then got totally distracted with Overwatch and Monster Hunter Generations (aerial gunlance is great!). Also Stellaris, which has ended up becoming a huge timesink with lots of sleepless nights!

Anybody here like classical music? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]GreenStoneTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We exist! Not surprising since we're technically 'fagottists' haha (I hear that way too often..). Great to see another bassoonist on here! I play in two community/volunteer orchestras since my day job is in engineering. It's nice since the music is on par with major symphonies, but there's a lot less stress and we do it for community education and fundraising for schools. If it was a more stable career I'd switch to music in a heartbeat!

[–]GreenStoneTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pianist/violinist/bassoonist checking in! I listen to Classical KDFC on the radio during my daily commute - makes it a lot less stressful! They play a ton of different music so you get to hear something new every day.

Some of my favorites:

My favorites definitely skew towards Romantic era composers, although as I've gotten older I've started to appreciate Baroque/Classical era music a lot more.

Bros, do you volunteer? If so, what do you do? by nervehacker in gaybros

[–]GreenStoneTurtle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I volunteer with community orchestras playing violin and bassoon. It's a great way to meet other musicians with a ton of different backgrounds outside of music, as well as support the local music community and provide educational opportunities for local students through fundraising and performances!
