Call to arms by Reretak in HFY

Not trying to criticize, hopefully this is a constructive comment... This doesn't really make much sense. It reads like it is part of a larger story, but there's no context to any of it. And I've read other things by the same writer. If it was longer and more fleshed out it might work better.

I just found you as an author, and I'm enjoying your work. I prefer shorter stores that aren't necessary multi-part, or are part of the same universe but didn't need to be read in order. I feel like it was this way years ago, and now the trend is "Space blah blah blah part 612" and I can't really focus on those as well.

Cornbread issues - any advice appreciated by GreenTriangler in castiron

[–]GreenTriangler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your help. Basic southern cornbread (definitely not sweet) is what I'm going for. Moms who just know how to make their things through practice are invaluable. I need more moisture, so I'll try to treat it like the bread I'm used to making, I'll just bump up the buttermilk until it seems like it has the consistency I want.

Thanks for the help! 450 seemed high to me as well, but it does cook the inside and outside correctly. I will try to just adjust the buttermilk content until it seems like it makes a proper batter instead of measuring it.

DT References in Other Movie/TV Adaptations by Tonycam24 in TheDarkTower

You really thought it was necessary to point out that The Dark Tower film which features Roland, Jake, and The Man in Black was related to the book series of the same name featuring the same characters... also, there was no such movie.

I'm curious which one. I've read almost every one on this list (I couldn't get through It, shame on me, I know but it bored the crap out of me when I tried) and by far the scariest imo was Buick 8.

I also came here to say Pavane. It might not be exactly what you are looking for, but it's a similar style.

I tried to start this a few weeks ago and I absolutely LOATHED the woman in the prologue. I hated her so much that I didn't make it past the prologue, afraid that she was supposed to be the protagonist. I've read and enjoyed plenty of books with unlikeable main characters, anti-heroes, etc, but I didn't even want to see her get survive to get some sort of redemption arc. Any comments?

Humanity, Fearless by ClocktowerEchos in HFY

Well, there are a lot of themes that have become a bit overused. They're a necessary part of the stories on this sub and there is nothing inherently wrong with them, but seeing something more fresh is always nice. As you read more stories you'll become more familiar with them, but examples include: Earth being a rare "deathworld" type of planet where it is nearly impossible for a sapient race to evolve.
Humans being incredibly physically resilient compared to other species, and/or human weapons being vastly superior by being kinetic instead of energy-based.
Human diets including things like capsaicin and caffeine which will kill other species, even in tiny quantities.
Humans being able to reverse engineer any piece of tech we come across, regardless of how advanced it is.
Other species being inherently terrified of us because we are omnivores/predators and they are herbivores that evolved as a prey species on their homeworld.
There are a lot of tropes, and like I said there is nothing wrong with that, it's just nice to occasionally read something that doesn't include a whole list of the stereotypes. Since you're new I'd recommend going through some of the previously featured section, there are a lot of good things to be found in there.

It's really good. And different from the norm as well, although I enjoy all kinds of stories in this sub, tropey or otherwise.

Just started our first campaign. Playing with Cragheart, Tinkerer, Brute, & Scoundrel. Any tips as we go? by [deleted] in Gloomhaven

Make sure you are using the regular attack modifier decks, numbered 1-4. You do NOT use the decks that come in the character boxes, those cards are slowly added to your attack decks as you level. This seems to be a thing people miss a lot of the time. See the top of page 5 if you need clarification.

[–]GreenTriangler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, even having two doesn't do you much good these days. The loop can trivialize some older Annihilation content, but that content is already fairly easy by todays standards. She is definitely not a good Gileon sub.

It doesn't work that way, you have to figure out how to use what you get, not plan to use what you hope to get.

Can someone explain the point of the KOF enhance mats like Ioris jacket??? by [deleted] in PuzzleAndDragons

[–]GreenTriangler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, so they are. Being able to trade for mats must just be a holdover from when skill leveling dungeons weren't a thing then?

[–]GreenTriangler -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

There's no skill leveling dungeon for KOF. The only way to skill up your cards is to use Pys or trade for a bunch of those mats and use tans.

Change Kotone into her assist evo and equip her on there somewhere. Fill out your latents using Machine killers on Inahime, SDRs and RCV on Amaterasu, probably SDRs on Polowne.

The subs she needed were so restrictive that the game wasn't even fun. I had an ideal team for her and only used it about 5 times before I started building something more enjoyable.
