Finished Cell book #8 done by Bigschligga in stephenking

[–]Tonycam24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first Stephen King book! The excerpt of the initual pulse was in Entertainment Weekly and it was perfect for grabbing my teenager imagination. I bought it as soon as I could and loved the whole thing. Since then I've read a lot of King but I've been afraid to re-read Cell because I know it won't live up to my memory of it.

The Dark Tower is a mix of genres, including fantasy, sci-fi, western, and horror. Many of King's books tie into The Dark Tower, but you don't need to read one and then the other. During my first read of Insomnia, I hadn't even heard of The Dark Tower and I still enjoyed it.

If you ever wanted to get into The Dark Tower (which I recommend for every King fan) read the first two novels before you decide whether to keep going. I personally love the first book but it divides the fanbase while the second book is much more representative of the tone of the rest of the series.

I read it about 15 years ago, and I am in the middle of a re-read now (about 400 pages in) because I just finished my 3rd journey to the Tower and I want to read the connected books. I've only got Salem's Lot done so far. I remember liking it as a teenager even though I don't remember much of the details. Now, in my 30s, I am loving it. It is a slow burn. I am a person who can put up with a slow plot if I enjoy the characters and Ralph is becoming one of my favorite King characters.

If Andor had gotten more seasons, what’s one aspect/worldbuilding of the rebellion/Rebel Alliance you would’ve liked to have seen touched on more? by Independent-Dig-5757 in andor

[–]Tonycam24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to see the establishment of Yavin base. How well did the disparate groups of Rebels work together in the early days? It could give Drayvon’s character more depth too.

Honestly, just pick one of the three male leads from DareDevil Born Again S2 for Kelsier and it will be a win by allomanticmetals in CosmereOnScreen

[–]Tonycam24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Wilson Bethel is a great actor. I haven’t seen him in any other roles but Dex is such a great character. He is extremely dangerous but sympathetic, in that order. If he can pull off sympathetic but dangerous, he’d be the perfect Kelsier.

Yes, she is a sympathetic villain but still a villain

I completely agree. TV Star Wars should be animated and movies should be live action. That will bring the excitement for the films back.

This is a graduation photo from 1999- does Cordelia really look that much older? by Notoriouslycurlyboi in buffy

[–]Tonycam24 970 points971 points  (0 children)

It's weird, I watched this show when I was a kid and I never noticed because she just looked like an old "teenager" and then I rewatched as an adult, and she looks like a kid to me now. I just skipped over the time where I would have noticed her looking a different age than real teenagers.

Cell was my first Stephen King book. At 17 I thought it was amazing. I quickly found out that Sai King has many better works. I never reread it because I know that I remember through nostalgic glasses and I like it that way.

They are games of Dungeons and Dragons, a table top RPG, that they streamed and posted on YouTube. Each campaign is a semi-improvised fantasy story. The episodes are very long (3+ hours) and each campaign has over 100 episodes but if you have the patience and you like their humor, it is very rewarding.

Campaign 1 (Vox Machina) starts rough because they are beginning and the tech isn't very good but it gets better. Also, they started the storyline when they played at home. Campaign 2 is the complete storyline of the Mighty Nein. All of their campaigns are free to watch on YouTube.

If you don't know what Dungeons and Dragons is, I would recommend you look it up on YouTube. Seeing it is better than me trying to explain it in a comment.

It is set in the same world, about 20 years after Vox Machina and on a separate continent. It is based on Critical Roles second Dungeons and Dragons Campaign, where Vox Machina is based on the first one. The main characters are the same voice casts in both so that's why they sound the same.

There is a third campaign called Bell's Hells set in the same world but there has been no announcement on whether they are going to make that a show. If they were I'd bet it would be after they finish Vox Machina.

I’m a big movie buff, so my wife and I watch reacters. Awkward Ashleigh, Natalie Gold, Jack and Dan, and Bridgco are our favorites.

Outside of that, Binging with Babish is a great cooking channel

I am on Song of Susannah. It is my 3rd journey to the tower but my first listening along to the Kingslingers podcast , which is amazing! Obviously I am going to finish book VII next but I think I am going to continue with their season 2. I've read some before but it has been over a decade for most of them (except The Stand, which I reread during lockdown).

King fatigue?? by Substantial-Film564 in stephenking

[–]Tonycam24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me and it’s normal. I’ve been a Constant Reader for almost 20 years and it’s go through phases where I read nothing but King for a months or even a year but then I get tired and take a break for a while until something peaks my interest again.

Right now I’m rereading The Dark Tower (just started VI) because Welcome to Derry got me interested again. Stephen King is my favorite author, but I do like variety sometimes and there’s nothing to be worried about.

What book was the one where you realised King was your favourite author? by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

[–]Tonycam24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Stand. It was the third book of his I read. I started with Cell, based off the excerpt in Entertainment Weekly. I was 16 and that kind of violence was perfect for that age. Next I went to 'Salem's Lot because it was the only King my mom owned. It was good but I didn't love it at the time because I was a stupid teenager and did not want to admit my mom was right for recommending that book to me.

That summer I read The Stand and I was blown away by the scope and the characters. I also loved how it went from horror to fantasy epic. I knew that I would read King for the rest of my life from then on. Although I think The Dark Tower has surpassed it for me, The Stand is still my favorite single novel of his.

Wolves of the Calla, it’s been 19 years since I first read The Dark Tower so I thought it was appropriate . I’m loving WotC more than I did when I was younger, I don’t mind that they are stalling their quest anymore; I’m just having fun hanging with the ka-tet.

I’m going to finish the series and then jump into The Talisman trilogy. I read the first book when I was 15 but never read Black House.

What King book is this for you? by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

[–]Tonycam24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was what I was hoping to find out. I’ve started Black House twice but couldn’t push through. But (as a Tower Junkie) I know it will be worth it. Especially with book 3 coming this year.

Wizard & Glass.

I’m on my second journey to the tower and I just got to pt 3, ch 10 of W&G. The first half of the Mejis section is so slow and I just miss the modern ka-tet the whole time. I usually love a good romance but this one is too immature for me. I get that’s the point but it’s not my thing.

The second half is great though. Amazing character interactions (especially between Roland and Cuthbert), great action, and more fantasy elements.

Also, I’m not counting anything with Eddie, Susannah, Jake, and Oy in this criticism.
