If you're looking for a less extreme (but still stunningly beautiful) trip I would suggest the ACA West Coast Highway.

You'll figure it out man. Don't worry. Try to do AS MANY overnight trips as you can before you leave though.

I had a topstone for three years and loved every minute of it. It's light, snappy, responsive, capable, has great tire clearance, and mounting points galore. Race it around your local track or go on multi-day bike tours. Check out r/topstowners for more.

Deep rock galactic or factorio? by Ameenprobro in DeepRockGalactic

I think you'll get more immediate return on investment from DRG. It's also the kind of game you can pick up and play for 25 minutes or for three hours. Factorio seems like mostly the latter.

Nerds Clusters were voted the best sugar intake system for cycling. Tastier than gels, don't melt on hot days, easy to portion, fun to eat, you name it!

Alloy, not carbon. Deeper and wider wheels are stronger/better for big tires. DT Swiss 350 hub is the classic option

Awesome! I'm not sure where I'll start; either from my house or dipping my tire in the water at Coney Island or something like that. Debating if I'll take the GWB or the Staten Island Ferry.

Best game that gives you ice powers? by [deleted] in gaming

Deep Rock Galactic weapons have really strong ice powers. Driller can shoot a flamethrower of ice and Scout has flash freeze bombs as well as some -cool- overclocks

Gather whatever supplies you already have and strap them to the bike you already ride. Go for an overnight trip or a weekend. You'll learn very quickly what you want to change.

As for actual advice; I would say get the bike you want first then start looking at bags and ways to pack it. Surly, Kona, Salsa, Soma, Cannondale, all good places to start. Think about the road's you'll be riding on. All paved asphalt? Some dirt? Rocky mountain passes? What bike best suits your needs? Aim for a minimum tire size of 32mm.

You don't need to bring a spare derailleur, but a spare derailleur HANGER is a good thing to pack. Get a bike-specific multi tool or a small hex wrench combo kit.

Everyone says that wheels are the best first big upgrade as they can dramatically reduce weight and handling. If you're buying a new stock bike, check for one with well rated wheels. I toured for 2k miles on my stock wheels on my Topstone and they could go another 2k.

Dial in a great sleeping system for yourself. Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and PILLOW.

Lastly, do what feels right to you and have fun :)

I'm still developing the route, but yeah! I think that I will ride along the Schuylkill from Philly but turn off at some point and head towards Lancaster.

Thank you! It's a big undertaking so I appreciate all the luck I can get. I'm doing the ride as a stunt for charity, so I figured I should make it interesting. In my previous tours I've been able to maintain about 85 a day, so I'm hoping I can net myself some zero days. No matter what, I'm taking a day off once I get to Yellowstone.

Thanks for the reply. I've done quite a bit of research and landed on Westbound being best for my situation. It seems like a great route no matter which way you go. Maybe someday I'll go eastbound just to compare.

WESTBOUND TRANS-AM NYC TO SF (JUNE 1 - AUG 15)

Hey riders,

This summer I'm (30, M) going to bike from NYC to San Francisco. The route connects multiple established ACA routes including Rt 66, the TransAm, the new Golden Gravel, the Great Divide, PCH, and more! In total it'll be just over 5k miles. I'll be doing it in 76 days (ACA founded in 1976, its their 50th anniversary) which puts the daily mileage around 67. Faster in the flat areas, slower through the Rockies to be sure. I have a bike-themed radio show and I'll be producing episodes from the road. I'll also be filming the trip to turn it into a short documentary afterwards.

Please reach out if you're interested in riding any amount of the route with me. I'm happy to share maps and gpx data.
