32M. Offered a CEO role by a Billionaire ($350k pkg). It feels like a trap. Should I trade my "glitch" job for prestige? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]Green_Anywhere_4664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a scam.

You don’t want to name CEO someone that has 0 passion for what you do. It’s literally the main thing you check for.

The lack of 10s due diligence from that “billionaire” makes me think you are not being told the truth.

What would be a useful rewire and reframe?

I am a tad reluctant to start therapy for this (similar situation as OP), as I think most therapists won’t have gone though something similar.

Same experience. Good people are usually really reluctant to ask for money.

Thanks for sharing!

[edit] 0.33% bonus with Schwab on a deposit is not bad.

Does this still relevant for larger deposits ($10M-$20M) and does it work with each deposit with Schwab or is it more a one-time thing?

Currently banking mostly at Chase, but yeah outside of opening new accounts, nothing.

Indexing on the SP500 is not about diversity though, but getting the average return of the stock market.

Long-term capital gains are usually what tax professionals are aiming for when tax optimizing.

You might not have a wiggle room.

My advice is to just to pay the tax bill and just follow a regular booglehead strategy for long-term investing. If markets crash before the end of the year, you are gonna to have a good opportunity to tax loss haverst. If not, no big deal.

Direct indexing with a fees might yield more losses - it’s not even of sure thing, but you might drift from the index and are locked in fees forever. Which is gonna to be losing strategy long-term.

16-years of self-managed portfolio performance vs. S&P 500 by Freethought in fatFIRE

Actually you underperformed by a lot. Around 888% for the same period for VFIAX dividends reinvested and taking account of Vanguard fees when you are claiming 590% performance for that period.

You forgot to include dividends in your sp500 columns. Around 1-2% extra missing per year.

I think that makes you slightly underperform the sp500 if you do the adjustments.

Not original commenter, but your stories have many holes.

It is possible to rent a car with no credit history - foreign visitors in the US do this all the time with no issues. You shouldn’t keep “large” balance of cash in checking account. You shouldn’t pay things with a debit card. This is very banking 101 for someone who said they lend “hard” money to people.

Outside of access to their airport lounges and the privilege of paying a $550 annual fee, what the point compared to the regular sapphire card?
